Brovia's 2018 Barolo is a very good wine for the vintage and within its peer group. It naturally shows the modest structure of the year, but all the elements are nicely balanced. Sweet dried cherry, mint, cedar, tobacco and crushed leaves open nicely. I would prefer to drink the 2018 over the next handful of years. As always, the straight Barolo is a blend of 70% Brea and 30% a mix of the other sites in the range. It is very nicely done.

Castiglione Falletto. Bottled in July 2021. Youthful crimson. Pretty, concentrated cherry and raspberry nose and with its great depth accentuated by the exotic spice notes. Gains hugely in expression with aeration. Great focus of fruit on the nose and beautiful transparency on the palate. Pure, elegant and fresh with long, fine, sandy tannins. (WS)

Monforte d'Alba. Mid ruby. This shows plenty of concentration, in fact more than many other Barolos of this vintage. Complex earthy nose with cherry and raspberry fruit and subtle spice. Succulent fruit on the palate that is still a little compact and a layer of polished tannins. Lively, fresh and long. Gritty tannins that cling to the palate on the finish. Could be GV.

The 2018 Barolo Monvigliero is broad, ample and so expressive, all while showing the finesse and classicism that are such a signature of this wine. All elements are so well balanced in a Barolo that speaks to harmony above all else. Sweet red cherry, cedar, orange peel, tobacco and cinnamon give the 2018 tons of aromatic presence. Best of all, the 2018 will drink well with minimal cellaring. It's a gorgeous wine in every way.

It offers up scents of dried cherry, orange peel, spice, mint and dried rose petal, with lovely inner perfume and fine balance. Time in the glass brings out gorgeous layers to round things out.
