  • Fontaine-Gagnard Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2019 (3x75cl)

    Vinous (94)

The 2019 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a rather terse bouquet, more saline than the Criots, touches of oyster shell coming through with time in the glass. The palate is well balanced with more weight and density than the Criots, grippy and saline with a long spicy aftertaste. This is excellent - but serious and warranting cellaring for three or four years.

Perfect fresh mid red to purple in colour. There is an extra distinction to the bouquet, with a touch of spice and a little bit of blood orange. Very nuanced this year. Sweetly harmonious across the middle of the palate, iron-rich at the finish, supple and extremely persistent. Long, harmonious, with a silky touch.

  • Georges Noellat Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru 2019 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (96-98)

For the first time, Maxime Chuerlin decided to use stems in his crown jewel, the 2019 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru, settling on 25% whole bunch for this year. This was an astute decision, because it lends freshness and more complexity to the bouquet of blackberry, undergrowth, tobacco and crushed limestone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, hints of peppermint behind the black fruit and touches of white pepper and sage toward a finish that fans out wonderfully. A slam-dunk for Maxime Churlin. Five barrels produced, matured entirely in new oak.

Produced from purchased grapes, the 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is serious and structured, enforcing a change of pace after the series of Puligny-Montrachet grands crus. Mingling notes of pear and citrus oil with hints of toasted bread, white flowers and praline, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and chalky, with palpable structuring dry extract and tangy balancing acids.

The 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru comes from Charlemagne and the Pernand side of the hill, comprises two barrels from the domaine and three barrels from two other sources. It comes across surprisingly closed on the nose. Maybe just going through a dumb phase of élevage? Two parcels, one close to the tower and one at the bottom which they keep separate for quite a while. In hot, dry years such as 2019 and 2020 the bottom bit does very well because it retains moisture. 20% bought in. Final blend in tank, to be bottled by mid February 2021. Refined, high-toned nose with a meaty undertow. Then a notably sweet palate attack and quite chunky and forceful. Some whole-bunch influence. Clearly a grand cru. Still youthful with a lightly spicy nose. Lots of energy.

  • Louis Jadot Echezeaux Grand Cru 2019 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93-95)

The 2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) is very promising, exhibiting incipiently complex aromas of raspberries, cassis, candied peel, burning embers and potpourri, followed by a medium to full-bodied, charming and vibrant palate that's broad and enveloping, with lively acids and fine, powdery structuring tannins.

  • Louis Latour Chateau Corton Grancey Corton Grand Cru 2019 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (91-93+)

Notes of peonies, orange rind and sweet berry fruit introduce the 2019 Château Corton-Grancey Grand Cru, a medium to full-bodied wine that's chewier and more muscular than the Vigne Au Saint. It's a more serious wine, built for some bottle age.

  • Louis Latour Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2019 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (91-93+)

The 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is also quite promising, exhibiting aromas of pear, buttered citrus fruit, honeycomb, toasted almonds and white flowers. Full-bodied, satiny and rich, with a fleshy core of fruit and good underlying freshness, I hope it can repeat this fine performance from bottle.

  • Louis Latour Romanee-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru Les Quatre Journaux 2019 (6x75cl)

    James Suckling (100)

This is like staring into an abyss, but being overwhelmed with joy. The essence of fine pinot noir and of Burgundy, which you don’t need to be any kind of expert to appreciate. Enormously concentrated, but so graceful, this makes you want to forget everything else you are supposed to be doing. Lean back and let yourself be overwhelmed. Drink or hold.

  • Raveneau Chablis Grand Cru Blanchots 2019 (6x75cl)

    Burghound (96)

As is often the case, this is aromatically quite similar to the Montée de Tonnerre with just a touch more wood in evidence. Here too the slightly richer flavors possess an equally gorgeous texture with a bit more mid-palate stuffing to the intense, powerful and bone-dry finale that exhibits simply huge length. This beauty is even firmer, and I wouldn't even think about opening a bottle for at least 10 years, research purposes aside!

  • Raveneau Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 2019 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (97)

Serious and tensile, Raveneau's 2019 Chablis Grand Cru Clos unwinds in the glass with aromas of orange oil, white flowers, confit lemon, green apple and deftly judged reduction. Full-bodied, taut and chiseled, it's an immensely concentrated, racy wine with huge depth at the core and a long, intensely saline finish. Its style exemplifies the 2019 Chablis vintage at its best.

  • Roche de Bellene Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru 2019 (6x75cl)

    Jancis Robinson (18)

Barrel sample. Greyish deep crimson. Like the Échezeaux, this smells of luxury but here it is darker and a little more oaky on the nose, very dark fruit profile. On the palate, dark, dense and savoury, a little charry, peppery, spiced, but the tannins are unexpectedly fine and supple even if the oak has thickened them slightly. Long, savoury aftertaste. Needs a lot of time.

  • Taupenot Merme Mazoyeres-Chambertin Grand Cru 2019 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (95-97)

The 2019 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru has a little more intensity than the Charmes-Chambertin, damp undergrowth, moss, light leafy aromas tincturing the mainly red fruit and developing more and more earthiness with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Taut and fresh with perhaps the most saline finish of all Romain Taupenot’s cuvées this year, it is destined to be a wonderful Mazoyères-Chambertin for sure. Best in show chez Taupenot-Merme.
