Harder to taste today than the classic Clos de Bèze, which is showing more energy and salty minerality in the early going. But this is subtler and longer on the aftertaste, with a distinctly floral, feminine character that reminded me of a great Chambolle-Musigny. Wine Advocate (93)The 2015 Reserva Conde de Vimioso is a blend of 40% Touriga Nacional, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Aragonez and the rest Syrah, aged for 18 months in oak ranging from new to third use. It comes in at 14% alcohol. Concentrated, beautifully structured and rather on the powerful side on opening, this is not quite ready to drink, although you could certainly approach it now. With an hour of air, it actually drank very well. Another year or two in the cellar would help it, though. It went like this: on opening, a bit oaky and not ready; after an hour, beautiful. Add a couple of points to the score. Leave it on the table for three hours and then let it air in a glass for half an hour—gorgeous. Add more points. Of the Tejo onslaught this issue, this was probably my favorite. The oak is a bit prominent now, but it doesn't come close to subsuming the nuanced fruit. That first hour of aeration lets the mid-palate absorb the wood very well. The complex flavor medley runs from blueberries to beef. The mid-palate eventually shows some fine finesse, although this is certainly burlier than its unoaked sibling this issue. This well-crafted red is a refined and silky beauty with a bit of a crisp edge. I suspect that it will eventually show far more complexity as well. This is not imported, so the price is just an estimate. |

The wine offers pretty berry aromas intermingled with spice, licorice and crushed stone. A floral aroma of red rose also appears. The tannins are solid and will require extra years of bottle aging. |

Vinous (95)It’s hard to put down a glass of the 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva. This youthfully restrained yet remarkably pretty wine trades power for undeniable elegance and refinement. It’s dark and moody at times, bright and focused on radiant fruits at others. Layer after layer of crushed black cherry, woodland herbs, autumnal spice, mint leaf, cedar box and earth resonate in the glass. Its silky textures coat all that they touch in a mix of dark red berries and salty minerals, turning dry and structured toward the close under an air of inner florals and earth tones. It will be some time before the 2015 is ready, but I hope to be able to revisit this when it is. Tasted twice with consistent results. |

Wine Advocate (93)The 2015 Reserva Conde de Vimioso is a blend of 40% Touriga Nacional, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Aragonez and the rest Syrah, aged for 18 months in oak ranging from new to third use. It comes in at 14% alcohol. Concentrated, beautifully structured and rather on the powerful side on opening, this is not quite ready to drink, although you could certainly approach it now. With an hour of air, it actually drank very well. Another year or two in the cellar would help it, though. It went like this: on opening, a bit oaky and not ready; after an hour, beautiful. Add a couple of points to the score. Leave it on the table for three hours and then let it air in a glass for half an hour—gorgeous. Add more points. Of the Tejo onslaught this issue, this was probably my favorite. The oak is a bit prominent now, but it doesn't come close to subsuming the nuanced fruit. That first hour of aeration lets the mid-palate absorb the wood very well. The complex flavor medley runs from blueberries to beef. The mid-palate eventually shows some fine finesse, although this is certainly burlier than its unoaked sibling this issue. This well-crafted red is a refined and silky beauty with a bit of a crisp edge. I suspect that it will eventually show far more complexity as well. This is not imported, so the price is just an estimate. |

Needs three or four years to come together. But a serious red all the way. |

The Fratelli Alessandria estate was among the first to understand its potential, and indeed, this wine was first released in 1978. The wine offers pretty berry aromas intermingled with spice, licorice and crushed stone. A floral aroma of red rose also appears. The tannins are solid and will require extra years of bottle aging. |

Vinous (95)It’s hard to put down a glass of the 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva. This youthfully restrained yet remarkably pretty wine trades power for undeniable elegance and refinement. It’s dark and moody at times, bright and focused on radiant fruits at others. Layer after layer of crushed black cherry, woodland herbs, autumnal spice, mint leaf, cedar box and earth resonate in the glass. Its silky textures coat all that they touch in a mix of dark red berries and salty minerals, turning dry and structured toward the close under an air of inner florals and earth tones. It will be some time before the 2015 is ready, but I hope to be able to revisit this when it is. Tasted twice with consistent results. |
