Wine Advocate (99+)
Fermented in glass balloon for 22 months and bottled at the end of August this year, the 2018 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese is highly concentrated yet pure and spicy/stony on the apricot-scented nose that is enormously detailed and refined for this class. Enormously rich and juicy-piquant on the palate, this is a fantastically precise and stimulating TBA that will become a legend years from now. This is a perfectly balanced noble sweet wine with unreal precision. Picked with 201° Oechsle and bottled with nearly 7% alcohol, 318 grams of residual sugar and 11.5 grams of total acidity. Tasted from AP 22 20 in September 2020.Inc. VAT£2,744.70 -
James Suckling (94)
Aromas of blueberries and blackberries with hints of minerals. Full body, very fine tannins with orange peel and currant character. Chewy yet polished tannins. Better in 2018 but already delicious. Impressive for the difficult 2014 vintage.Inc. VAT£310.84 -
James Suckling (98)
Plenty of blackcurrant, blackberry and dark chocolate character with oyster shell and walnut undertones. Full body, extremely tight and structured with blueberry and light vanilla and coffee highlights. A gorgeous Oreno. Give this wine two or three years to come together.Inc. VAT£427.24 -
James Suckling (99)
Gorgeous floral and deep, dark berry aromas with hints of spices such as cinnamon and hazelnuts. Full body and ultra-fine and strong tannins that are powerful yet so sleek and beautiful. Fantastic length and texture. Deep, dark and profound. Takes you on a long journey and shows you its true character. Better in 2025. Give it time.Inc. VAT£500.69 -
James Suckling (99)
Wow. Fantastic aromas of blackberries, currants, minerals, violets and graphite. Full-bodied with firm, silky tannins that are incredibly polished and intense, yet ever so refined and integrated in the wine. It goes on for minutes. The is one of the best modern-day Orenos so far. Best in 2025 and onwards.Inc. VAT£375.89 -
Decanter (95)
Still in its infancy, this opaque red-coloured wine is very rich, juicy, and plummy on the nose, vibrant, poised and quite oaky. The attack is assertive and tannic, with richness and density, and it clearly needs time to shed its tightness. It's no heavyweight thanks to its fresh acidity, which keeps it polished and stylish, and there's ample energy and bite on the long finish.Inc. VAT£342.04 -
Wine Advocate (92)
The mid-weight 2015 Perlato del Bosco is a pure expression of Sangiovese that boasts the warmth and sunshine of Coastal Tuscany. The wine offers thick layers of fruit and spice that you would get, say, with Sangiovese from cooler inland areas with vineyards planted at higher altitudes over sea level. Bright cherry and wild raspberry transition to toasted almond, licorice and grilled herb.Inc. VAT£235.22 -
Wine Advocate (94)
The 2016 Maximin Grünhaus Abtsberg Riesling Superior displays very clear and intense, beautifully ripe and concentrated fruit with highly delicate, flinty/crunchy slate aromas. There is a stony baseline on the nose that indicates an excitingly mineral and tensioned wine—and that's exactly what you get. Full-bodied, straight, lush and piquant, this is a pure and crystalline, terribly tight and salty but also rich and intense Abtsberg with great aging potential. Fascinating. Bottled with 15 to 16 grams of residual sugar and 11.5% alcohol.Inc. VAT£203.09 -
The Von Schubert Maximin Grunhauser Abtsberg Riesling Superior 2019 is a testament to the prestigious German wine-making legacy. Sourced from the illustrious vineyards of Maximin Grünhäuser, the grapes are grown on the legendary, steep Abtsberg site that benefits from a perfect south-facing position boasting blue Devonian slate in its soil structure. The meticulous cultivation and hand harvesting in cooler conditions result in a low-yield, high-quality grape. Its fermentation in traditional 1000 litre Fuder barrels ensures a sophisticated flavour composition. It exudes a elegant minerality with fine, fruity pear and citrus nuances. Aged on lees adds to the depth of taste, complexity and longevity of this delightful Riesling. Indulge in its perfect balance of acidity and sweetness that Von Schubert Maximin Grunhauser Abtsberg Riesling Superior 2019 is celebrated for. Truly, this wine is a reflection of the commitment of Von Schubert estate to tradition, precision and excellence in wine-craft.
