This is so aromatic with blackcurrants, black berries and raspberries. Pure fruit, together with coffee and nutmeg. Really fresh and clean with bright spices. Full-bodied, yet reserved and tight with fantastic structure. So long. This is a great Cos for the cellar. A real benchmark for the true character. Needs at least five or six years to open and come around. Try after 2029.

This is a very refined, polished Cos with superb finesse and length. Medium-to full-bodied, very fine and persistent. Really long with beautiful tannins. Rich, but fresh and linear. Yet, the alcohol is around 13.5%. 62% cabernet and 38% merlot.

Tasted blind. Deep crimson. Appetising freshness but a little hint of wood shavings (Cabernet Franc?) on the nose. Bone dry and pretty vital but relatively early maturing. Lovely drink with St-Estèphe minerality. Everything in the right place but not a long-distance runner. Very pure though.

Outstanding Top value. A wonderfully fresh and layered nose combines notes of various dark berries, cherry raspberry and violet. There is unusually good density for a wine from the Hautes Côtes along with good minerality while the impressively complex and persistent finish is shaped by bright acidity. The 2020 Bourgogne Blanc has a light apple blossom nose, touches of citrus peel, the absence of new oak lending this a sense of neutrality. The palate is well balanced with a fine thread of acidity, taut and fresh. Fine.

The 2020 Bourgogne Rouge, which comes from parcels in Gilly, has a light-hearted, pure and winsome bouquet with dark cherry and raspberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a tart entry, moderate depth with a tang of sour cherry on the finish. Drink over 3-4 years.

The 2017 Bourgogne Rouge, which comes from old vines in Vosne-Romanée, has a lifted cranberry and raspberry bouquet. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and slightly gourmand in style, leading to a light but quite persistent dark cherry finish. Enjoy over the next two or three years.

The 2018 Bourgogne Rouge has a fragrant bouquet of dark cherries and raspberry scents, quite gentle in style. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit and fine acidity. The 20% new oak lends a little weight toward the finish. This is definitely one of the superior generic red Burgundy wines you will find this year.

The 2019 Bourgogne Rouge, which comes from the Vosne-Romanée appellation, has a well-defined bouquet of wild strawberry and raspberry aromas; there is something almost sedate about the nose. The pure, harmonious palate offers quite high-toned red and blue fruit. Sorbet-fresh toward the finish, with veins of blood orange. Very fine for its class.

(from vines in Vosne). A fresh and distinctly earthy nose speaks mostly of various dark berries. The rich, concentrated and suave middle weight flavors possess unusually good depth and persistence on the balanced and moderately firm finale. This is an excellent Bourgogne and well worth considering. (87-89)/2024+

This is also aromatically extremely fresh with a slightly more elegant nose of just crushed red pinot fruit and a hint of anise. The sleek, delicious and nicely detailed flavors display a beguiling underlying tension on the lingering and balanced finish that is almost delicate. Lovely and worth a look

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (87-88)

(from 45-year-old vines in Concoeur, in the hills behind Vosne-Romanée; there was no frost here in 2016 but vines in a small valley just 500 meters away were decimated, according to Tardy; 12.1% natural alcohol chaptalized to 12.8%): Healthy dark red. Ripe, sappy aromas of black cherry, black raspberry and licorice. A medium-bodied wine with sweet berry and cherry fruit flavors framed by a firm edge of acidity and complicated by a leathery nuance. Lovely vinosity here, with an acidulated red fruit character and fine, dusty tannins that suggest this wine will evolve slowly. Tardy told me that Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet and Domaine Arlaud own vines in the same windy, rocky, essentially flat site.

Vinous - Neal Martin (95)

The 2016 Lafon-Rochet has a very engaging bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit laced with pencil shavings and loamy scents. In fact, the more you nose this wine, the more its complexity becomes apparent. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine line of acidity, ripe and generous yet maintaining outstanding tension and revealing a judicious touch of peppercorns on the finish, which fans out gloriously. This is a fabulous Lafon-Rochet and certainly the best bottle of 2016 that I have encountered. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting.

The 2014 Bourgogne Blanc has developed nicely during the remainder of its élevage since I tasted it from stainless steel tank, offering apple blossom, flint and smoky scents that possess much more character. The palate is fresh on the entry with citrus peel and fresh Granny Smith, well judged acidity and a bright and lively finish. This is precisely what you want from a Bourgogne Blanc.
