Vinous (91-93)The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru did not suffer too much hail according to Antoine Gouges, at most 5%. This is very ripe and slightly gourmand on the nose, light savory notes emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins, nicely controlled and then just tightening up towards the finish that shows just a bit of VA. Quite dense of a Pruliers, give this some time in the cellar. |

Vinous (93)The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru comes across a little muted on the nose compared to its peers, maybe just a little subdued, though it will open with bottle age. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins, citrus-fresh with a little more weight towards the finish. This conveys perhaps the most energy from Gouge's white 2021 with fine persistency on the aftertaste. Classy. |

Vinous (92-95)Bright dark red. The most reduced of these 2016s on the nose today, offering scents of cherry, plum, licorice and mocha. Densely packed, fine-grained and sweet, showing terrific juicy cut and vinosity to its primary dark fruit, chocolate and violet flavors. Finishes with serious but essentially smooth tannins and rising purple fruits that saturate the mouth and leave the taste buds glistening. At once more refined and more powerful than the Vaucrains, this wine is built for a graceful evolution in bottle. |

Decanter (94)Les Vaucrains was hit twice by hail in 2018 - in a year when even a single storm was rare - which reduced yields in the vineyard. This can be a little austere in most vintages - the bony soils sit right on the bedrock (hence its name, meaning 'worth nothing') - but is way less so here. Sweet wild berry and strawberry jam flavours are underpinned by sinewy tannins and supporting acidity. |

Burghound (91-94)(from a 1.08 ha mix of younger and older vines that average about 50+ years of age). Discreet wood influence surrounds the notably ripe and fresh aromas of cassis, plum liqueur, earth and evident sauvage wisps. There is excellent richness and volume to the suave, round and seductive mid-palate of the broad-shouldered flavors that contrast markedly with the very firmly structured, youthfully austere and impressively persistent finish. As is usually the case, this is very compact and backward and a wine that will require extended aging to reach its peak. (91-94)/2036+ |

Vinous (93-95)The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru comes from 1.47 hectares that cover the four soil types within the vineyard; Magnien informed me that he is the only grower who has all four. The vines are Pinot Magnien and some are up to 100 years old. A gorgeous bouquet of pure black cherries, blueberry and light violet aromas bursts from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity, and lightly spiced, leading into a harmonious, persistent, mineral-driven finish. This should evolve into a gorgeous Les Cazetiers. |

Jancis Robinson (17+)Deep cherry red. Intense black fruit and savoury/stony restraint combined. All in embryo, like the Perrières but here the tannins are even firmer. The core is serious dark fruit and some oak spice but it is not intrusive even if it adds a note of dark chocolate to the aroma as it opens in the glass. Fine tannins slightly thickened by the oak but smooth and in harmony with the fruit. Long, savoury finish. (JH) |

Burghound (91-94)Outstanding - This is aromatically quite similar to the Perrières if perhaps just a bit earthier. The slightly larger scaled flavors are surprisingly supple on the mid-palate that contrasts materially with the firm tannins on the compact and youthfully austere finish. Burghound (91-93)Ripe yet cool aromas include those of cassis, poached plum, an array of spice elements plus a whiff of the sauvage. The very rich and even bigger and more voluminous large-scaled flavors also brim with sappy dry extract before culminating in a balanced, powerful and lingering finish where a touch of bitter chocolate slowly emerges. This isn’t massive in the way that it usually is though it is borderline opulent, which is a descriptor I use very rarely with respect to the 2021 reds. |

Wine Advocate (92)Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers has a refined bouquet with undergrowth-infused red berry fruit, a little rustic but charming and expressive. Vinous (91-93)The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Bousselots 1er Cru veers much more toward red fruit on the nose, hints of meat juice and garrigue emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite saline and cohesive, leading to an energetic, peppery finish that lingers. Another promising NSG from Chauvenet. |

This is less powerful and forbidding than normal, though with that said, it's still sufficiently structured to reward 12 to 15 years of aging. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-95)Rich purple, an even colour throughout the glass. Robust red fruit. There is a fine depth of flavour and some class here, plump in the middle, juicy and long, filling the mouth again, while keeping a mineral fresh feel too. |

Jancis Robinson (16.5)Mid crimson. Deep-fruited and much more perfumed than the straight village Nuits-St-Georges. A marked step up in finesse. Dry, finely chalky tannins. Sinewy but elegant with that perfume on the long finish. Impressive persistence. (JH) |

Burghound (88-91)A subtle but not imperceptible application of wood can be found on the ripe and fresh aromas of poached plum, fennel and soft earth nuances. The rich, concentrated and palate coating medium-bodied flavors are shaped by relatively refined tannins on the lightly stony, punch and youthfully austere finale. Worth considering. |

Wine Advocate (92)Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers has a refined bouquet with undergrowth-infused red berry fruit, a little rustic but charming and expressive. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp red cherry and strawberry fruit, fine tannin and prudent use of oak. There is focus and precision here, decent length and class. This is a top-notch and utterly delightful Nuits Saint-Georges in the making, surpassing my estimation in barrel. Tasted September 2016. |
