Bright, light yellow. Deeper-pitched aromas of yellow peach and honey. In a distinctly ripe style but broad and quite dry; in fact, with its superb concentration and fullness, this premier cru made for a good transition to Jadot's grand crus in my tasting. This compellingly rich wine conveys an almost marzipan-like sweetness and should give pleasure early or late. Very long on the aftertaste. As with the Combettes, the yield here was almost 90% of normal. Incidentally, Jadot did not make a Puligny-Montrachet Le Cailleret in 2016.Inc. VAT£782.44 -

Fullish yellow. The complex nose shows the power of the vintage, a few drier tannins behind, fair acidity. I think the Clos character is there, but it is reticent today. Moutonne is one of Chablis' finest expressions and the 2019 will be another in a long list of memorable vintages. Although not the final bottling, it is clear that there is great power here, combined with finesse and a lightness on its feet. Savoury, umami, notes on the finish. The 2018 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru, blended from six parcels, is pure, focused and taut, all while expressing the natural richness of the year. Lemon confit, white flowers, white pepper, mint and a kiss of French oak add striking aromatic top notes to match the wine's linear, energetic feel. The Vaillons has a surprising amount of freshness and lift, with bright saline notes that extend the finish. I suspect the opulence of the year will emerge more fully over time, but this is nevertheless a fine showing.Inc. VAT£264.04 -
