Wine Advocate (90-92)
The 2019 Chorey-lès-Beaune Les Bons Ores is shaping up very nicely, unfurling with aromas of raspberries, sweet berries and plums complemented by hints of rose petals and spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's fleshy and charming, with fine depth at the core and a seamless, elegant profile. I can't think of many wines from this appellation operating at this level.Inc. VAT£379.24 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (88-91)
Last to be picked, with plenty of rot to sort out. A deeper purple than the Bourgogne. Marvellous density of deep raspberry fruit. Generous and very pure, with some black raspberry fruit, luscious more than precise but a wine it will be easy to fall in love with. Drink from 2024-2027.Inc. VAT£375.89 -
Vinous (94)
The 2016 Poggio alle Nane is powerful, dense and ample. Black cherry, plum, licorice, menthol, new leather, spice, incense and lavender all build as this dark, unctuous wine shows off its considerable allure. The 2016 is concentrated and rich, with impeccable balance and tons of sheer appeal, not to mention a gorgeous wine in its price range.Inc. VAT£378.04 -
Wine Advocate (91)
The 2017 Maremma Toscana Poggio alle Nane is a blend of mostly Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon with some Carmenère from a decidedly hot and dry vintage. I visited the estate in the summer of 2017, and how could I forget those scorching temperatures? This wine shows an uncanny sense of confidence. It sets out its goals, and it accomplishes them with flying colors. The goal is to harness the natural heat and sunshine of Castiglione della Pescaia with dark fruit, extraction and soft tannins. Those are precisely the qualities you get here. Le Mortelle is owned by Marchesi Antinori of Florence, so you can count on rock-solid precision and consistency across the line of wines.Inc. Jancis Robinson (16.5)
Earthy nose. Then sweet, charming fruit. Really, what’s not to like if you’re prepared to buy an unfashionable appellation?Inc. VAT£300.04 -
Vinous (87-89)
The 2019 Chorey-lès-Beaune Pièce du Chapitre offers brambly black fruit on the nose, tinged with iodine and violet. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit, showing more cohesion than the regular Village cru, and a savory finish.Inc. VAT£330.04
