James Suckling (99)
Fantastic aromas of blackcurrants and other dark fruit with crushed stone, iron and oysters, following through to a full body that shows incredible energy and depth, offering ripe yet fresh fruit, together with bright herbs and earth. Precision and balance of the intensity of the vintage. Layered. Perhaps the greatest Don Melchor ever made. Try after 2022.Inc. VAT£513.64 -
James Suckling (100)
This is amazing. The vibrancy and energy in this wine is stunning. The complexity of aromas are breathtaking with flowers, blackcurrants, raspberries and peaches. Full-bodied, yet ever so refined and polished with impeccable texture and beauty. The length is marvelous. This is a testimony to balance, harmony and transparency in a great red. Drink after 2023.Inc. VAT£680.44 -
James Suckling (98)
Very perfumed and aromatic with blackcurrant, sweet-tobacco and Spanish-cedar character. Full-bodied with ultra fine tannins that build on the palate and take the fruit and other flavors to an endless finish. More refined than the perfect 2018 and almost as compelling. Drink in 2023 or after.Inc. VAT£550.78 -
James Suckling (97)
Deep and serious with black olives, blackberries, blueberries, tobacco leaf, sweet red capsicum, ash, dried meat and a hint of black chocolate. This is a more direct, full-bodied Don Melchor, filled with solid blackberries and wrapped by tight, fine-grained tannins. Long and deep. 92% cabernet sauvignon, 6% cabernet franc, 1% merlot and 1% petit verdot. Better after 2024.Inc. VAT£709.24 -
Wine Advocate (90-92)
The 2019 Chorey-lès-Beaune Les Bons Ores is shaping up very nicely, unfurling with aromas of raspberries, sweet berries and plums complemented by hints of rose petals and spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's fleshy and charming, with fine depth at the core and a seamless, elegant profile. I can't think of many wines from this appellation operating at this level.Inc. VAT£379.24 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (88-91)
Last to be picked, with plenty of rot to sort out. A deeper purple than the Bourgogne. Marvellous density of deep raspberry fruit. Generous and very pure, with some black raspberry fruit, luscious more than precise but a wine it will be easy to fall in love with. Drink from 2024-2027.Inc. VAT£375.89 -
Jancis Robinson (16.5)
Earthy nose. Then sweet, charming fruit. Really, what’s not to like if you’re prepared to buy an unfashionable appellation?Inc. VAT£300.04 -
Vinous (87-89)
The 2019 Chorey-lès-Beaune Pièce du Chapitre offers brambly black fruit on the nose, tinged with iodine and violet. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit, showing more cohesion than the regular Village cru, and a savory finish.Inc. VAT£330.04
