Kay Brothers Hillside Shiraz 2002 (6x75cl)
In Bond: £133.00
|
2002 |
Kay Brothers Hillside Shiraz 2002 (6x75cl) Wine Advocate (95)A glorious example of South Australian Shiraz is the 2002 Hillside Shiraz. Made from relatively young vines (8-34 years of age), this flamboyant, pleasant 2002 is impossible to resist. Already rocking and rolling, it has 10-15 years of aging potential. A deep plum/ruby/purple hue is followed by glorious aromas of black fruits, flowers, dusty, loamy, truffle-like scents, and a classic combination of pepper and licorice. The wine saturates the palate with a seamless integration of acidity, tannin, and alcohol (15%). The finish is opulent and multilayered. This wine is finished with a screw cap.

Kay Brothers Hillside Shiraz 2005 (6x75cl) Wine Advocate (96)Deep garnet colored, the 2005 Hillside Shiraz reveals a wonderfully expressive, spicy nose with some notes of game, potpourri, dried cranberries and kirsch. It is a glorious, full-bodied wine packed with complex flavor layers, medium-firm velvety tannins and balanced acid. It finishes long. Drink it now to 2017+.

Mollydooker Carnival Of Love Shiraz 2018 (6x75cl)
In Bond: £317.00
|
2018 |
Mollydooker Carnival Of Love Shiraz 2018 (6x75cl) Wine Advocate (94)Mollydooker's 2018 Carnival of Love Shiraz is more red-fruited and structured than I expected, given the wine's stated 16% alcohol. Raspberries and cedar mark the nose, with hints of chocolate, espresso and baking spices. In the mouth, it's full-bodied, dense and powerful, with ripe but firm tannins supporting the bright berry flavors, then easing into a long, velvety and mouthwatering finish. It should drink well for around a decade, but if you're shy of tannins, you may want to wait another year or two before opening.

Mollydooker Enchanted Path Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 (6x75cl)
In Bond: £296.00
|
2018 |
Mollydooker Enchanted Path Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 (6x75cl) Wine Advocate (93)A blend of 71% Shiraz (the same juice that goes into Carnival of Love) and 29% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Enchanted Path features slightly lifted floral and herbal aromatics and hints of cassis on the nose, while the flavors on the palate are slightly brighter and redder. It's full-bodied, richly textured and intense, with ample extract, plenty of oak and well-ripened tannins, all of which lead to a finish that's long and slightly drying at the moment. Give it another year or two in the cellar, and it should drink well for at least the next 5-6 years after that.

Mollydooker The Velvet Glove Shiraz 2018 (3x75cl)
In Bond: £595.00
|
2018 |
Mollydooker The Velvet Glove Shiraz 2018 (3x75cl) Wine Advocate (96)The most dense and concentrated of the current Mollydooker offerings is the 2018 Velvet Glove Shiraz. Because of that, it's also among the most fruit-forward, with the oak elements of vanilla, mocha and cedar pushed into the background in favor of ripe raspberries and blackberries. Taut and focused for its size, this full-bodied effort is smooth and creamy textured on the palate, where the fruit glides into a long, velvety finish.

2016 |
Noon Eclipse 2016 (6x75cl) Wine Advocate (96)The 2016 Eclipse is 87% Grenache, 8% Graciano and 5% Shiraz, all off the McLaren Vale estate vineyard. As it almost seems to, it boasts gorgeous aromas of raspberries, accented by a range of herbs and spices that include notes of orange zest, bay leaf and rose petals. It's full-bodied, with assertive but silky tannins that should help preserve the wine's freshness as it ages. Although full-bodied, it handles its alcohol well, showing just a trace of warmth on the lingering finish.

2018 |
S. C. Pannell Grenache Old McDonald 2018 (6x75cl) Halliday Wine Companion (97)The provenance of the Old McDonald single vineyard comprises 76yo bushvines and is lighter and more perfumed than its sibling, the Clarendon Smart. Both excellent interpretations of their sites. This one heady with red fruits, florals, dried herbs/mint and a hint of green walnuts. There's a savoury overlay, with very fine sandpaper tannins and neat acidity sashaying across the just medium-bodied palate. Detailed, complex yet ethereal.

S. C. Pannell Koomilya CP Block Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 (6x75cl) James Halliday (99)A block regenerated by the Pannells since they purchased it in '12, it produces small berries in small bunches of intensely flavoured grapes. Hand-picked, 10 days on skins, pressed to French puncheons for 19 months maturation. It is the only unblended wine so far made and sold under the Koomilya banner, 4560 bottles made. It is a wine of beauty, with effortless poise and flawless fruit that is medium to full-bodied at most. How long will it live? Try 40 years.

2015 |
S. C. Pannell Shiraz Koomilya JC Block 2015 (6x75cl) James Suckling (99)A slightly firmer and more fragrant style to the ultra-rich DC Block bottling of the same vintage. This has impressive depth and concentration. Aromas are in the spectrum of dark, red and purple berries. There is an astutely handled, spicy oak influence courtesy of the 2700-liter French oak vats. The palate carries on with a wealth of fine, long and sleek tannins, which deliver a fresh plum-stone finish. Try from 2023.

Shirvington Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 (1x150cl)

|
2006 |
Shirvington Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 (1x150cl) Wine Advocate (92)The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon was 100% barrel-fermented and aged for 12 months in 75% new oak, 80% American, 20% French. Opaque purple-colored, it exhibits a fragrant, expressive perfume of toasty oak, vanilla, spice box, black currant, and blackberry liqueur. This is followed by a racy Cabernet, slightly lean, with intense black fruit flavors, good depth and concentration, and enough structure to support 8-10 years of development in the cellar.

2019 |
Thistledown Cunning Plan Shiraz 2019 (6x75cl) Halliday Wine Companion (96)A full-bodied shiraz that reflects cunning winemaking. Whole-berry fermentation has put a rich gloss on the palate without overloading the tannin structure. The predominantly black berry fruit is shot through with licorice, spice and an airbrush of dark chocolate.

2017 |
Yangarra Old Vine Grenache 2017 (6x75cl) James Halliday (97)Planted in 1946 on a sand dune in the cooler, elevated northeast of McLaren Vale. Hand-picked and sorted in the winery, the fermentation is wild. It is a glorious example of grenache picked earlier than in the past, retaining all the freshness of red cherries/berries, spices starting to build, tannins beautifully shaped.
