Vinous (86-88)
The 2018 Bourgogne Rouge has a fragrant bouquet of dark cherries and raspberry scents, quite gentle in style. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit and fine acidity. The 20% new oak lends a little weight toward the finish. This is definitely one of the superior generic red Burgundy wines you will find this year.Inc. VAT£296.44 -
Vinous (87-89)
The 2019 Bourgogne Rouge, which comes from the Vosne-Romanée appellation, has a well-defined bouquet of wild strawberry and raspberry aromas; there is something almost sedate about the nose. The pure, harmonious palate offers quite high-toned red and blue fruit. Sorbet-fresh toward the finish, with veins of blood orange. Very fine for its class.Inc. VAT£319.22 -
Burghound (87-89)
(from vines in Vosne). A fresh and distinctly earthy nose speaks mostly of various dark berries. The rich, concentrated and suave middle weight flavors possess unusually good depth and persistence on the balanced and moderately firm finale. This is an excellent Bourgogne and well worth considering. (87-89)/2024+Inc. VAT£347.09 -
Burghound (86-89)
This is also aromatically extremely fresh with a slightly more elegant nose of just crushed red pinot fruit and a hint of anise. The sleek, delicious and nicely detailed flavors display a beguiling underlying tension on the lingering and balanced finish that is almost delicate. Lovely and worth a lookInc. VAT£320.68 -
Vinous (87-89)
The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d’Orveau, wiped out last year after frost, has a straitlaced, rather reserved bouquet, touches of sous-bois and tobacco tincturing the red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a little foursquare and perhaps, relative to Grivot’s other 2017s, just missing a little energy on the finish.Inc. VAT£794.44 -
Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (87-88)
(from 45-year-old vines in Concoeur, in the hills behind Vosne-Romanée; there was no frost here in 2016 but vines in a small valley just 500 meters away were decimated, according to Tardy; 12.1% natural alcohol chaptalized to 12.8%): Healthy dark red. Ripe, sappy aromas of black cherry, black raspberry and licorice. A medium-bodied wine with sweet berry and cherry fruit flavors framed by a firm edge of acidity and complicated by a leathery nuance. Lovely vinosity here, with an acidulated red fruit character and fine, dusty tannins that suggest this wine will evolve slowly. Tardy told me that Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet and Domaine Arlaud own vines in the same windy, rocky, essentially flat site.Inc. VAT£414.07 -

Bottled. Pale shaded crimson. Intense floral perfume. Pure Chambolle with real excitement and detail. Pretty early maturing though.Inc. VAT£1,113.89 -
Jancis Robinson (17.5)
Bottled. Especially pale rim. Very floral and hedonistic. Sweet start and surely just what burgundy lovers currently seek. Really rather gorgeous fruit and precision with just a little dry finish so probably worth waiting a while. Very long.Inc. VAT£1,553.09 -

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (86)
Two thirds from Puligny and one third below Volnay. Very pale colour but there is character on the nose. This Bourgogne Chardonnay builds in weight on the palate with a light menthol at the finish. Firm acidity. Tasted: November 2021Inc. VAT£339.67 -
Jancis Robinson (17.5)
Despite being in its infancy, there is a lot to love about this already: perhaps the nose is reticent, but the palate has beautiful crunchy cherry and cranberry fruit with just a touch of black olive on the finish. There's dark chocolate and lovely hedgerow notes too, giving plenty of interest beyond fruit. Certainly not at its best just yet, but full of promise.Inc. VAT£645.64 -
Vinous (94)
The 2020 Beaune Clos des Mouches 1er Cru, which comes from deeper soils than the Beaune Grèves, has a mixture of red and black fruit and is a touch more expressive with a discrete marine influence. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, very layered with a gentle but insistent grip on the finish. This is one of the finest Clos des Mouches that I have tasted.Inc. VAT£688.84 -
Vinous (92-94)
The 2021 Beaune Clos des Mouches Rouge 1er Cru is one of my picks from Drouhin this year. Wonderful, vivacious red fruit leap from the glass, hints of sous-bois and dried rose petal. The palate is beautifully balanced with fine mineralité, demonstrating more complexity than the preceding Beaune Cras with more grip on the finish. Superb.Inc. VAT£906.29 -
Vinous (92-94)
The 2018 Beaune Clos des Mouches Blanc 1er Cru, which has been produced by Drouhin since 1928, comes from six separately aged parcels. Drouhin mentioned that quite a few barrels were deselected from this vineyard and blended into the Côte de Beaune Blanc. This possesses an intense bouquet with subtle scents of almond, praline and pressed white flower aromas. The palate is taut and linear on the entry, featuring lovely orange pith and apricot notes and hints of tangerine and white chocolate toward the gorgeous, pure finish. Wonderful.Inc. VAT£1,076.44 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2019 Beaune Clos des Mouches Blanc 1er Cru, which is a selection from six different tries through the vineyard, has an intense nose, slightly Alsace-like in style thanks to a hint of linseed oil intermingling with yellow plum and orange blossom. The palate is well balanced with a tensile opening. Lovely orange pith and nectarine notes here. Not a voluminous wine, but very focused on the finish. Excellent.Inc. VAT£1,080.04 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-97)
Pale lemon colour. The power is immediately apparent on the nose, but in a good way. A wine for longer elevage before bottling and then worth the wait in bottle thereafter. This has all the expected volume of white fruit while retaining impeccable balance. Adds depth with time in the glass, before reaching quite a saline finish. A very youthful but impressive Clos des Mouches. I recently enjoyed a stunning bottle of the 2017, and this could very well match it in due course. Tasted: November 2021Inc. VAT£801.64 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2021 Beaune Clos des Mouches Blanc 1er Cru is a worthy sideman to the Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot. Lovely citrus peel and crushed limestone scents, this has vigour and focus. The palate is well balanced with a taut line of acidity, tensile yet with ample concentration on the finish. This is certainly worth hunting down.Inc. VAT£1,263.89 -
Jancis Robinson (17)
Cask sample. Mid purplish cherry red. Lovely floral and open nose. So pure and scented with cherry and violets. On the palate, some oak in evidence in sweet spice. Incredibly smooth and rounded texture. Packed with fruit, generous and remarkably approachable. Just fresh enough. Very persistent with that fruit.Inc. VAT£463.24 -
Vinous (92-94)
The 2019 Beaune Grèves 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet of dark berry fruit, light seaweed and oyster shell scents, and the 30% whole cluster lends a subtle tertiary aspect. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, slightly chalky tannins. This is very well structured, delivering palpable energy. A saline finish gets the saliva flowing. Just a delicious Beaune Grèves.Inc. VAT£601.24 -
Vinous (93)
The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru has an open nose of brambly red fruit, sous-bois and wilted rose petals, very pure and charming, and not dissimilar in style to François Bertheau's Chambolle 1er Cru. The palate is very harmonious, open and transparent. It feels lighter than others, yet the tension and precision will see this age with style, and perhaps it will not close down. Tempting now, but I would prefer to wait. Classy. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.Inc. VAT£652.84 -
Decanter (95)
This is a classic 'cuvée ronde', combining fruit from six different Premiers Crus to produce a stylish example of what Véronique Drouhin calls the 'cashmere of Burgundy'. Scented, balanced and ethereal, it's a transparent expression of Chambolle's range of terroirs, with sweet summer berry flavours and fine, velvety tannins. Accomplished stuff.Inc. VAT£932.44 -
Tim Atkin MW (94)
Most of this fruit comes from domaine-owned parcels, but some is purchased. Six parcels in total contribute to this pretty, floral and silky-textured Chambolle. Sweet red fruits spread gently across the mid-weight palate before a light ganache note joins in and brings the wine into a gently fading finish. 2022-34Inc. VAT£807.64 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-95)
Raised in 30% new wood and 70% 1 year old. Solid purple with medium depth. The nose starts on the oak and soon moves to the fruit. Very succulent again, smoothly balanced with a firm grip to the tannins. Yet it is suavely put together. High class, and it certainly has the length. Tasted: October 2019Inc. VAT£517.24 -
Wine Advocate (86-88)
The 2015 Pommard Les Perrières has quite a rich bouquet with touches of fig infusing the kirsch and cassis aromas. The palate is sweet on the entry with bold tannin, moderate complexity with a firm, slightly confit-like finish that needs to muster a little more precision. Not bad, although maybe just picked a day or two too late? Let's see.Inc. VAT£335.09 -

The 2014 Bourgogne Blanc has developed nicely during the remainder of its élevage since I tasted it from stainless steel tank, offering apple blossom, flint and smoky scents that possess much more character. The palate is fresh on the entry with citrus peel and fresh Granny Smith, well judged acidity and a bright and lively finish. This is precisely what you want from a Bourgogne Blanc. The 2011 Pommard Les Vignots was bottled December 2012. It has a complex, slightly earthy bouquet with subtle marine influences, defined and focused with hints of black olive emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine focus, imbued with an Oriental edge (hoisin) which is folded into a fine silky finish. Drink now-2020.Inc. VAT£9,009.62 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (91-93)
Even bright purple, weighty raspberry with alpine strawberry on the nose, a feeling of well harnessed opulence. This is a wine of very significant substance which will absolutely merit longer maturation in cask, and then in bottle. This fine Boucherottes packs an entirely positive punch at the back, exuberantly ripe red cherries and masterful persistence. The only possible issue is whether or not this, with time, will prove to be a fraction over ripe. Tasted: November 2021Inc. VAT£358.84
