Vinous (93-95)The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru comes from 1.47 hectares that cover the four soil types within the vineyard; Magnien informed me that he is the only grower who has all four. The vines are Pinot Magnien and some are up to 100 years old. A gorgeous bouquet of pure black cherries, blueberry and light violet aromas bursts from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity, and lightly spiced, leading into a harmonious, persistent, mineral-driven finish. This should evolve into a gorgeous Les Cazetiers. |

Once again, the wood treatment is discreet but not invisible on the ripe and very fresh aromas of poached plum, cassis and pretty floral wisps. The racy, detailed and intense middle weight flavors possess a more sophisticated mouthfeel thanks to the fine-grained tannins, all wrapped in a youthfully austere, balanced and impressively long finale. This has a ripe and refined bouquet with hints of blue fruit developing in the glass, very floral in style. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin. This feels linear and precise, gradually building towards a very minerally and tensile finish. Great persistency here, a superb Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champonnets. |

The very cohesive bouquet features brambly red berry fruit, briar, black tea and undergrowth scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a peppery entry, fine acidity and a Morey-like structure toward the finish. While not amazingly long, it is very nicely focused and exudes breeding. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-96)5 Star Wine. 50% whole bunch, with one third new wood. This has a deliciously inviting fresh purple colour and a ravishing bouquet, all about the fruit. No sign of the stems. I loved this cuvee in 2017 and again this year. If this is in your price point, don’t hesitate. There is a really classy finish with fruit and light tannic structure perfectly balanced. |

Wine Advocate (91-93)The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Jouises Vieilles Vignes underwent ageing in slightly less new oak than the regular Vieilles Vignes at 25%, and includes 55% whole bunch fruit. It has a crisp and well-defined bouquet with hints of crushed rose petal infusing the red berry fruit—cranberry and a hint of juniper. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, something almost a little Oriental here, a tang of hoisin tincturing the finish that feels harmonious and sustained in the mouth. This is an involving Gevrey-Chambertin that will age with style. |

Picked later than the Gregor but not dried prior to fermentation, it's a well-behaved 14.7% alcohol wine that would be at home on the table alongside a tomahawk ribeye, roast lamb or any long-cooked stew. Full-bodied and intense, it not only shows tremendous complexity—mixing red and dark berries with various herbal nuances and hints of licorice, coffee beans and seared meat—but also boasts a rich, velvety mouthfeel combined with notable drinkability. It's a terrific contrast in style with the Gregor, showing more elegance but not nearly as much power. |

Wine Advocate (98)The 2018 Gregor Shiraz was partially dried prior to crushing and fermentation, so it packs considerable concentration and power, weighing in at 15.8% alcohol on the label. It's a blockbuster in every sense of the word, from its huge aromas of mint, blueberries and plums to the mind-bending intensity on the full-bodied palate. Although not as raisined or alcoholic as Dal Forno's Amarone, there are similarities in size and structure, with waves of velvety, super ripe fruit and dark chocolate bolstered by softly dusty tannins and mouthwatering acidity on a finish that must be tasted to be believed.
