Burghound (90-93)
Cool and airy notes of tiny wild berries are complemented by hints of the sauvage, floral, spice and warm earth. There is good volume to the nicely refined middle weight flavors that are at once succulent yet powerful, all wrapped in a lingering and balanced finale. This will need to depth with time in bottle but the underlying material appears to be present for that to occur.Inc. VAT£703.24 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)
5 Stars. Bright red crimson colour with very juicy red berry fruit on the nose, this has abundant energy and makes one salivate. There is its habitual garrigue touch at the back then a second helping of sweet raspberry fruit, Impeccable structure, a really interesting complex and refreshing wine. Gourmand in the best sense. The fruit just keeps coming back behind. A stunning result from a lesser known 1er Cru. Drink from 2028-2036.Inc. VAT£1,040.69 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Lavières comes across a bit moody and sullen from barrel, especially after the livelier Les Charmois. Raspberry and wild strawberry scents eventually emerge, albeit reluctantly. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Very poised and quite mineral-driven, this conveys fine energy and a satisfying sense of strictness toward the black-pepper-tinged finish. Excellent.Inc. VAT£568.84 -
Vinous (90-92)
The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Lavières is initially tight on the nose, opening slowly to offer black cherries, blueberry and clementine peel. The palate is medium-bodied with a mixture of red and black fruit, and refreshingly saline in the mouth, particularly on the oyster-shell-tinged finish. Plenty of energy here, even if it’s not the best Grivot Nuits Saint-Georges this vintage.Inc. VAT£573.64 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-92)
A touch deeper in colour than the Vosne, but not markedly so, A darker fruit, a sighting of the traditional Nuits-St-Georges plums along with the fresher raspberry of this vintage. Fuller bodied than the Vosne-Romanée, perhaps a little less finesse, so both are true to their appellations. Well managed tannins to finish, and persistent. Drink from 2025-2031.Inc. VAT£531.89 -
Vinous (92-94)
Matured in around 40% new oak, the 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Au Bas de Combe Vieilles Vignes has a very controlled, focused bouquet of raspberry and bilberry fruit, beautifully defined and very terroir-expressive. The palate is well balanced and stylistically equidistant between Nuits Saint-Georges and Vosne-Romanée, betraying its geographical location. The 85-year-old vines impart great concentration but also immense quality, more Premier Cru than Village Cru. Superb.Inc. VAT£446.69 -
Jancis Robinson (17)
Bottled. Pale shaded crimson. Intense floral perfume. Pure Chambolle with real excitement and detail. Pretty early maturing though.Inc. VAT£1,113.89 -
Jancis Robinson (17.5)
Bottled. Especially pale rim. Very floral and hedonistic. Sweet start and surely just what burgundy lovers currently seek. Really rather gorgeous fruit and precision with just a little dry finish so probably worth waiting a while. Very long.Inc. VAT£1,553.09 -
Vinous (93)
The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru has an open nose of brambly red fruit, sous-bois and wilted rose petals, very pure and charming, and not dissimilar in style to François Bertheau's Chambolle 1er Cru. The palate is very harmonious, open and transparent. It feels lighter than others, yet the tension and precision will see this age with style, and perhaps it will not close down. Tempting now, but I would prefer to wait. Classy. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.Inc. VAT£652.84 -
Decanter (95)
This is a classic 'cuvée ronde', combining fruit from six different Premiers Crus to produce a stylish example of what Véronique Drouhin calls the 'cashmere of Burgundy'. Scented, balanced and ethereal, it's a transparent expression of Chambolle's range of terroirs, with sweet summer berry flavours and fine, velvety tannins. Accomplished stuff.Inc. VAT£932.44 -
Tim Atkin MW (94)
Most of this fruit comes from domaine-owned parcels, but some is purchased. Six parcels in total contribute to this pretty, floral and silky-textured Chambolle. Sweet red fruits spread gently across the mid-weight palate before a light ganache note joins in and brings the wine into a gently fading finish. 2022-34Inc. VAT£807.64 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-95)
Raised in 30% new wood and 70% 1 year old. Solid purple with medium depth. The nose starts on the oak and soon moves to the fruit. Very succulent again, smoothly balanced with a firm grip to the tannins. Yet it is suavely put together. High class, and it certainly has the length. Tasted: October 2019Inc. VAT£517.24 -
Wine Advocate (86-88)
The 2015 Pommard Les Perrières has quite a rich bouquet with touches of fig infusing the kirsch and cassis aromas. The palate is sweet on the entry with bold tannin, moderate complexity with a firm, slightly confit-like finish that needs to muster a little more precision. Not bad, although maybe just picked a day or two too late? Let's see.Inc. VAT£335.09 -
Wine Advocate (90)
The 2011 Pommard Les Vignots was bottled December 2012. It has a complex, slightly earthy bouquet with subtle marine influences, defined and focused with hints of black olive emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine focus, imbued with an Oriental edge (hoisin) which is folded into a fine silky finish. Drink now-2020.Inc. VAT£9,009.62 -
Inc. VAT£455.09

Jancis Robinson (17)
Star anise, red plum and red cherry on this complex and bright nose. Silky smooth but plentiful tannins frame an expansive core of floral red fruits on the palate. Quite marked smoky, chocolatey oak at this stage but such is the power of fruit that it should knit together well with time.Inc. VAT£803.09 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-96)
A crisp bright purple colour. This has a gorgeous purity and precision, a ravishing lifted red fruit intensity, good acidity and well ripened tannins. Very elegant yet intense Chambolle, with a beautiful finish. Tasted: November 2021Inc. VAT£727.49 -
Vinous (90-92)
Medium red. Less fruity and more medicinal on the nose than the Vaucrains, offering complex scents of dark raspberry, dried flowers, mocha and earth. Then plush, silky and fine-grained on the palate, offering lovely floral lift to its raspberry fruit. The firm tannins turn a touch dry with air. (This cuvée is not vinified by Jadot.)Inc. VAT£455.09 -
Burghound (91-94)
A notably fresher nose offers up notes of various red berries along with a plentitude of floral nuances. There is also better energy on the palate of the medium-bodied flavors that exude evident minerality on the saline and lingering if again mildly rustic finish. With that said, this is much better-balanced.Inc. VAT£1,207.24 -
Burghound (92-94)
A top note of menthol is present on the earthy and floral aromas of red currant, dark pinot and leather. The slightly finer and more voluminous flavors don't offer the same minerality though there is notably better depth on the compact, serious and built-to-age finish. This classy and suave effort is extremely promising if you're prepared to wait.Inc. VAT£919.24 -
Winery note: The Premier Cru vineyards of Nuits-Saint-Georges are divided into sections. Damodes is positioned on the north side of the village immediately above Boudots (which sits adjacent to possibly Burgundies greatest premier Cru Vosne-Romanée Malconsorts) and on the border with Vosne-Romanée The vineyard is on the upper slope with well-draining soil. The wines, whilst clearly made in the style of Nuits-Saint-Georges, show an influence from Vosne-Romanée next door. Notable floral notes and black fruit flavours.Inc. VAT£1,005.64

The Marchand & Tawse Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Corvees Pagets 2021 is an exquisite burgundy boasting elegance, grandeur, and insatiable charm. Assembled by the highly acclaimed winemaking duo Pascal Marchand and Moray Tawse, this spirited incarnation has a reputation that precedes itself. From the renowned French region of Nuits-Saint-Georges, this exceptional Premier Cru wine is crafted using traditionally harvested Pinot Noir grapes, yielding a delectable blend that hints at the complexity of its terroir. With a mélange of aromatic red fruits on the nose, the palate unravels to tease notes of juicy black cherries, subtle spice, and a harmonious minerality. The offering is then majestically matured in French oak, impressing a decadent, well-integrated oak influence on the palate. These vines were under a fermage agreement with the M o-Camuzet n gociant arm for almost 20 years. Alas, they were taken back in 2021. So, this is the last bottling of this wine. It's a shame, because it is thoroughly charming with the dignified lightness that Chambolle often brings along with heady perfume. Here are aromas of mulberries, cherry preserves, dried flowers and cocoa bordered by fluffy tannins and suave acidity. 2022-30Inc. VAT£1,039.24 -
Burghound (88-90)
The is also very pretty with its array of cool and pure red, earth and soft spice nuances, all of which is trimmed in just enough wood to notice. The 1999 Pommard 1er Cru Les Grands Epenots is a stunning young wine that is still a decade away from full maturity but is already giving the full measure of its potential, exhibiting a superb bouquet of dark chocolate, ripe wild berries, rich soil, summer truffles and grilled ceps. On the palate, it's full-bodied, multidimensional and concentrated, with incredible depth and dimension at the core, framed by rich structuring tannins and concluding with a long and still youthfully chewy finish.
