Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)
Exceptionally concentrated, indeed super saturated purple, with massive weight on the nose. There is also a huge weight of fruit to the back of the palate. While the wine from En Orveaux lacks the dainty detail which Echezeaux can have, it offers graceful muscle instead.Inc. VAT£970.82 -
Vinous (90-92)
The 2021 Echezeaux Grand Cru is powerful yet not fully developed. There's good energy throughout, that much is evident, but the mid-palate needs to fill out a bit more. It will be interesting to see if that happens in bottle, as the wine I tasted was at the end of its elevage in barrel. Dark red fruit, gravel, spice, leather and game lend quite a bit of darkness to this Echezeaux, which emerges from a parcel in La Combe d'Orveau. - Antonio GalloniInc. VAT£267.20 -
Wine Advocate (88-90)
Produced from purchased fruit and vinified with one-third whole clusters, the 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes (négoce) bursts with aromas of raspberries, berries, woodsmoke and sweet soil tones. It's medium to full-bodied, succulent and fine-boned, with a delicate core of fruit framed by powdery tannins.Inc. VAT£583.24 -
Tim Atkin MW (93)
Not currently available.Inc. VAT£372.04 -
Jancis Robinson (16.5)
Deepish cherry red. Smells riper and richer than the Bourgogne and with intense and seductive red fruit, subtly floral and so open. Not especially long but delicious in its fragrant and open Chambolle character.Inc. VAT£654.04 -
Burghound (89-91)
(from 11 different parcels in 7 different lieux-dits). A more elegant and slightly fresher nose is composed by aromas of black cherry, raspberry and pretty violet nuances. There is a really lovely texture to the delicious, saline-inflected and sneaky long finish that is very well-balanced. A quality Chambolle villages. (89-91)/2025+Inc. VAT£1,327.24 -
Vinous (90-92)
The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Village has a vivid bouquet with red cherries, cranberry and violet scents, actually, quite Vosne-like in personality. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, quite poised and tense with a dash of spice on the finish. This is a delicious Chambolle that should give 12-15 years' drinking pleasure.Inc. VAT£936.04 -
Inc. VAT£3,403.24

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)
This comes from the Echezeaux du Dessus, a plot purchased in the 1960s which must have been almost immediately replanted as the vines are now 50 years old. 30% whole bunch vinification and 70% of the cuvée is in new wood but we tasted from a one year old barrel. Equally dense purple in colour. Haunting qualities with real depth. Firm and forceful, some fine-grained tannins, covered with a wealth of rich red fruit including some strawberries.Inc. VAT£1,861.24 -
Vinous (87-89)
The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d’Orveau, wiped out last year after frost, has a straitlaced, rather reserved bouquet, touches of sous-bois and tobacco tincturing the red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a little foursquare and perhaps, relative to Grivot’s other 2017s, just missing a little energy on the finish.Inc. VAT£794.44 -
Decanter (95)
Yields were back up to normal here in 2017 after the frost-ravaged 2016 crop. This impressive Échézeaux, sourced from old vines in Les Rouges du Bas, is floral and appealing, with alluring texture, aromas of peony and rose petal, velvety tannins and a refreshing, chalk-tinged acidity. The slight reduction will disappear after racking.Inc. VAT£1,999.24 -
Jancis Robinson (18)
Cask sample. Deep ruby; blood orange, small black fruits and zest on the nose. Consistency and affirmed style. A lasso of acidity and quite the measured tannic charge, as befits its status. Discreet for now, but evident depth and promise.Inc. VAT£1,167.62 -
Vinous (94-96)
The 2021 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a well-defined bouquet with vivacious red berry fruit, kirsch and orange zest, very well-defined and focused. Love the energy of this Echézeaux. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit struck through with shucked oyster shell that defined the finish. Wonderful length. Bon vin.Inc. VAT£1,805.54 -
Jancis Robinson (17)
Bottled. Pale shaded crimson. Intense floral perfume. Pure Chambolle with real excitement and detail. Pretty early maturing though.Inc. VAT£1,129.49 -
Jancis Robinson (17.5)
Bottled. Especially pale rim. Very floral and hedonistic. Sweet start and surely just what burgundy lovers currently seek. Really rather gorgeous fruit and precision with just a little dry finish so probably worth waiting a while. Very long.Inc. VAT£1,553.09 -

Inc. VAT£1,279.24 -
Jancis Robinson (18)
Riper fruit on the palate with a sort of rhubarb note and loads of cherry and redcurrant. Well integrated leafy bitterness and a long, stately finish.Inc. VAT£1,417.24 -
Vinous (93)
The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru has an open nose of brambly red fruit, sous-bois and wilted rose petals, very pure and charming, and not dissimilar in style to François Bertheau's Chambolle 1er Cru. The palate is very harmonious, open and transparent. It feels lighter than others, yet the tension and precision will see this age with style, and perhaps it will not close down. Tempting now, but I would prefer to wait. Classy. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.Inc. VAT£652.84 -
Decanter (95)
This is a classic 'cuvée ronde', combining fruit from six different Premiers Crus to produce a stylish example of what Véronique Drouhin calls the 'cashmere of Burgundy'. Scented, balanced and ethereal, it's a transparent expression of Chambolle's range of terroirs, with sweet summer berry flavours and fine, velvety tannins. Accomplished stuff.Inc. VAT£944.44 -
Tim Atkin MW (94)
Most of this fruit comes from domaine-owned parcels, but some is purchased. Six parcels in total contribute to this pretty, floral and silky-textured Chambolle. Sweet red fruits spread gently across the mid-weight palate before a light ganache note joins in and brings the wine into a gently fading finish. 2022-34Inc. VAT£808.84 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (95)
The 2019 La Lagune offers exquisite transparency on the nose - one of the most terroir-expressive Pessac-Léognan wines this vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, taut and fresh, quite saline with a very integrated and poised finish that lingers in the mouth. Wonderful - could this be the best La Lagune in years? Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.Inc. VAT£295.24 -
James Suckling (92-93)
Bright and vivid with blackcurrants, dried flowers and hints of spice to the energetic fruit. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, racy tannins and a long finish. Very well done.Inc. VAT£217.24 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-95)
Raised in 30% new wood and 70% 1 year old. Solid purple with medium depth. The nose starts on the oak and soon moves to the fruit. Very succulent again, smoothly balanced with a firm grip to the tannins. Yet it is suavely put together. High class, and it certainly has the length. Tasted: October 2019Inc. VAT£518.44 -
Wine Advocate (86-88)
The 2015 Pommard Les Perrières has quite a rich bouquet with touches of fig infusing the kirsch and cassis aromas. The palate is sweet on the entry with bold tannin, moderate complexity with a firm, slightly confit-like finish that needs to muster a little more precision. Not bad, although maybe just picked a day or two too late? Let's see.Inc. VAT£335.09 -
Wine Advocate (90)
The 2011 Pommard Les Vignots was bottled December 2012. It has a complex, slightly earthy bouquet with subtle marine influences, defined and focused with hints of black olive emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine focus, imbued with an Oriental edge (hoisin) which is folded into a fine silky finish. Drink now-2020.Inc. VAT£9,009.62 -

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-96)
A crisp bright purple colour. This has a gorgeous purity and precision, a ravishing lifted red fruit intensity, good acidity and well ripened tannins. Very elegant yet intense Chambolle, with a beautiful finish. Tasted: November 2021Inc. VAT£728.69 -
Wine Advocate (93-95)
The 2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) is very promising, exhibiting incipiently complex aromas of raspberries, cassis, candied peel, burning embers and potpourri, followed by a medium to full-bodied, charming and vibrant palate that's broad and enveloping, with lively acids and fine, powdery structuring tannins.Inc. VAT£1,759.24 -
Tim Atkin MW (95)
Hailing from Les Rouges du Bas, this concentrated and firm Grand Cru structure is nicely balanced by heady, ripe fruit. Mulberries and quince scent the bouquet, and the palate layers on mocha and cigar box. A compelling composition, this needs a few years to come into focus. 2025-38Inc. VAT£1,519.24
