Vinous (90-92)
The 2020 Santenay Clos Rousseau 1er Cru includes one-third whole cluster. It has a well defined, but more introverted bouquet than the Village Cru, touches of sous-bois and tobacco. This just needs time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, again, very smooth and velvety in texture, very finely judged acidity with a sapid finish. Great potential.Inc. VAT£247.24 -
Wine Advocate (96)
Almost 100% Grenache and produced from low-yielding vines (approximately 25 hectoliters per hectare) at the top of the hill of Cairanne, the 2016 Cairanne la Jean de Verde is a prodigious wine. It starts with scents of crushed stone and licorice, then expands on the plate to reveal crazy intense blueberry and blackberry flavors. Medium to full-bodied, it remains fresh, zesty and vivacious on the long finish. If you can track down some of the 5,000 bottles that were made, grab them. Because of extremely low yields, there is no 2017.Inc. VAT£359.09 -
Vinous (90)
The 2019 Santenay Clos des Gravières Vieilles Vignes has a perfumed bouquet that shows more delineation and poise than the 2020. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, fine acidity and fine-boned with ample mineralité on the finish. Excellent.Inc. VAT£504.04 -
Decanter (95)
Gold Medal Decanter World Wine Awards Leather, pepper, red berry fruit and floral perfume. Lovely texture with fine, elegant tannins and abundant strawberry, smoky and raspberry flavours. Very long, silky and insistent finish. It all works very well.Inc. VAT£153.64 -
Experience the exquisite allure of the Lucien Muzard Santenay 1er Cru Maladiere 2015, a fine vintage hailing from the esteemed vineyards of Santenay, Burgundy. Aromas of red and black fruits mingle with subtle hints of minerals and spices, providing an enticing olfactory experience. On the palate, it reveals a vivacious acidity balanced with a lingering finish that evokes its old-world roots.
Boasting of longevity that only grows more elegant with age, Lucien Muzard Santenay 1er Cru Maladiere 2015 is truly a testament to exceptional Burgundian winemaking.

Burghound (88)
A more deeply pitched and decidedly earthier nose speaks of dark currant and cassis. The succulent, round and delicious flavors are more concentrated as the old vines show, all wrapped in a more complex and slightly firmer finale. This moderately rustic effort is also delicious and a wine that should drink well early on.Inc. VAT£259.24 -
Wine Advocate (90-92)
An 80-20 blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre, the 2018 Cotes du Rhone Villages Plan de Dieu Vieilles Vignes features lovely scents of garrigue layered over ripe black cherry fruit. It lacks the extra depth of the estate's Gigondas but remains impressive, being full-bodied, silky and already easy to drink, with a long, slightly briny finish.Inc. VAT£166.84 -
Wine Advocate (90-92)
An 80-20 blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre, the 2019 Cotes du Rhone Villages Plan de Dieu Vieilles Vignes is an excellent option for consumers who don't want to spend the extra money for the Saurel family's Gigondas bottlings. The garrigue on the nose is a bit more subtle than normal this year, with the bulk of the aromatics being super ripe cherries and berries. Full-bodied and intense, with a helping of firm tannins that keep the jamminess in check, it finishes dusty and savory, with ample length. This is a big wine, yet one I suspect will mature relatively quickly; drink it over the next 5-6 years.Inc. VAT£132.04
