Halliday Wine Companion (99)
One of Australia's icons. The decision not to use any new French oak, and to limit the alcohol to 13.5%, has resulted in a wine with a unique sense of place. It is also superbly balanced, dark fruits married to superfine tannins - another feature of a classic Hunter shiraz.Inc. VAT£945.64 -
Halliday Wine Companion (99)
Pale straw-green - an extraordinary colour of an extraordinary wine. A fragrant bouquet floats out of the glass and introduces a palate that has the best of all worlds: lemon, lemon curd, beeswax and fruit spice with no hint of the searing acidity Hunter Valley semillon can throw at the unwary. Here it is perfectly (and naturally) balanced. A worthy companion to the sublime Graveyard Shiraz '18.Inc. VAT£343.24 -
Vinous (94)
The 2016 Poggio alle Nane is powerful, dense and ample. Black cherry, plum, licorice, menthol, new leather, spice, incense and lavender all build as this dark, unctuous wine shows off its considerable allure. The 2016 is concentrated and rich, with impeccable balance and tons of sheer appeal, not to mention a gorgeous wine in its price range.Inc. VAT£378.04 -
Wine Advocate (91)
The 2017 Maremma Toscana Poggio alle Nane is a blend of mostly Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon with some Carmenère from a decidedly hot and dry vintage. I visited the estate in the summer of 2017, and how could I forget those scorching temperatures? This wine shows an uncanny sense of confidence. It sets out its goals, and it accomplishes them with flying colors. The goal is to harness the natural heat and sunshine of Castiglione della Pescaia with dark fruit, extraction and soft tannins. Those are precisely the qualities you get here. Le Mortelle is owned by Marchesi Antinori of Florence, so you can count on rock-solid precision and consistency across the line of wines.Inc. James Suckling (97)
From a steep, east-facing plot with plantings dating back to the 1950’s, this has abundant blackcurrant and blackberry aromas and flavors with an open-knit yet elegantly balanced palate. Long, rich and so drinkable now. Screw cap.Inc. VAT£153.64 -
Halliday Wine Companion (97)
Hand-picked in the early morning, lightly pressed before relatively cool fermentation. This is still in its infancy but is gloriously well balanced, which guarantees youth at 10yo, maturity at 20, and age yet further down the track. When to drink? Your choice.Inc. VAT£296.53
