Clos Frantin (Albert Bichot) Echezeaux Grand Cru 2015 (6x75cl)

Burghound (93-95)

This too is quite ripe with its liqueur-like aromas of black raspberry, spice and floral hints that are trimmed in just enough wood to notice. The velvety, supple and quite round flavors coat the palate with dry extract that also pushes the moderately firm tannins to the background on the slightly warm finish where the wood resurfaces. While the structure is such that this will certainly age for years, the acidity seems to be on the lower side and though this is by no means soft or flabby, the finish doesn't have the vibrancy of the best here.

Clos Frantin (Albert Bichot) Echezeaux Grand Cru 2016 (6x75cl)

Wine Advocate (90-92)

The 2016 Echézeaux Grand Cru was picked on 27 September and includes 40% whole bunch and the same percentage of new oak. It has a brisk dark cherry and cranberry-scented bouquet, touches of blood orange and mandarin emerging with time. Not bad at all considering how this grand cru was damaged by frost. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, quite sharp tannin and very fine acidity. While it does not quite bestow the depth and structure on the finish of the 2015, this is a well-crafted grand cru that should be considered a success and a worthy follow-up to the 2015.

Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Echezeaux Grand Cru 2003 (1x150cl)

Wine Advocate (95)

Unquestionably the finest Echezeaux I have encountered from this famed estate, the 2003 explodes from the glass with candied raspberries, violet, and red cherries. Stunningly marrying elegance with richness and density, this medium to full-bodied wine is ample, pure, and velvety-textured. Loads of sweet red fruits are found in its persistent, sensual character. Drink it over the next 12-14 years.

Inside Burgundy (95-97)

Huge dense purple black. Despite the massive weight this is a brilliantly floral style of Echezeaux. Whole bunches doubtless help. Sensual, savoury, pure, balanced and very long. With this suave, sweet, sensuality, I am in alpine raspberry territory. Really fine and supple. Tasted: November 2019

Henri Boillot Echezeaux Grand Cru 2018 (3x75cl)

Wine Advocate (93)

The 2018 Echezeaux Grand Cru wafts from the glass with an exotic bouquet of cassis and cherries complemented by nuances of incense, burning embers, dark chocolate and rich loamy soil. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, rich and enveloping, with fine concentration, ripe acids and a long, elegantly vanillin-inflected finish. This is a relatively new bottling for Boillot that debuted in the 2017 vintage.

Jayer Gilles Echezeaux du Dessus Grand Cru 2015 (6x75cl)

Burghound (92-94)

An exuberantly spicy nose displays notes of pepper, violet, sandalwood, plum and Asian-style tea. There is first-rate richness and concentration to the beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors that deliver excellent depth and length on the sappy finale. As good as this appears to be, and it appears to be really good, the 2014 is likely to be even better. I would argue for buying both if you can find them!

Michel Noellat Echezeaux Grand Cru 2018 (6x75cl) Dense and concentrated nose packed with black fruit; sweet black currant and bramble. The palate is svelte, decadent but balanced and laser-guided. For me this beats out the Grivot Echezeaux. Extremely impressive and pure. From 60-70 year old vines. Put this one away for a long time.

Robert Arnoux Echezeaux Grand Cru 2005 (6x75cl)

Wine Advocate (91)

The 2005 Echezeaux smells of fresh black raspberry, corriander and wood smoke, comes to the palate with ingratiating fresh fruit juiciness and refinement of (nevertheless abundant) tannins, offering sweet inner-mouth suggestions of lily and apricot. The finish lingers with considerable subtlety and refinement. I would revisit this in 6-8 years.
