The 2016 Croix Canon is a plump, juicy wine that can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring when it is released in a few years' time. Black cherry, gravel, smoke, leather and spice all run through this pleasantly hearty, rustic Saint-Émilion. I would prefer to drink it over the near and medium term.Inc. VAT£223.24 -
Classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé “B” in St-Émilion, there is talk of a potential upgrade to the promised land of Classé “A” just next year – a testament to the extraordinary quality of Château Canon over the past few vintages. A whopping 90% of Canon’s vines are planted on the plateau of St-Émilion, 70% of which is Merlot with the rest Cabernet Franc. A stunningly picturesque vineyard as it happens, workers during the harvest here are treated to gorgeous views of two church spires including the ancient St-Martin-de-Mazerat. This beauty is certainly translated through the vineyard’s terroir into a wine of transcendent polish and lifted elegance.Inc. VAT£211.24

James Suckling (95-96)
A fantastic second wine with a dense center palate of tight, racy tannins and dark fruit. Spicy and almost salty. It’s full, yet very compact with excellent structure and length. Very serious.Inc. VAT£247.24 -

The 2010 Acte 2 is a step up from the debut on the nose, demonstrating more cohesion and harmony, raspberry and light blueberry scents and the oak better integrated than the Acte 1. There is a subtle mintiness that surfaces with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and well judged acidity. Notes of mulberry and peppermint, plenty of dark berry fruit with a fresh and cohesive finish, this completes a fine Acte that should give another decade of drinking pleasure. Excellent. Tasted at the Acte vertical in London.Inc. VAT£357.64 -

The 2018 Les Perrières de Lafleur comes from a massal selection of vines from Château Lafleur planted on the clay and limestone soils in Fronsac. Based on 51% Cabernet Franc and 49% Merlot aged 15 months in one-third new French oak, it has a stately, regal style offering medium to full-bodied richness, notes of blackcurrant, black cherries, graphite, chalky minerality, white truffle, and violets, a broad, expansive mouthfeel, and building tannins. It shares a similar elegance and seamlessness with its Pomerol counterpoint, yet the high percentage of Cabernet Franc and different terroir give it a style all its own. It's a beautiful wine that needs 2-4 years of bottle age and will evolve for 15+ years. As I wrote after tasting it from barrel, if you find a bottle, you should buy it!Inc. VAT£233.54
