Huge swaths of tannin give the 2014 its shape and overall structure, with the deeply spiced, mentholated, balsamic notes that are so typical of this site. Readers will have to be patient, but the 2014 is a jewel of a wine. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (91)The 2010 Acte 2 is a step up from the debut on the nose, demonstrating more cohesion and harmony, raspberry and light blueberry scents and the oak better integrated than the Acte 1. There is a subtle mintiness that surfaces with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and well judged acidity. Notes of mulberry and peppermint, plenty of dark berry fruit with a fresh and cohesive finish, this completes a fine Acte that should give another decade of drinking pleasure. Excellent. Tasted at the Acte vertical in London. |

Perhaps hard to believe that this better than the 2013, but it is. Drink in 2022. |

Winemaking is classic in approach with a 25-day maceration period and aging in large Slavonian oak casks. I would recommend a few more years of bottle aging, however, to allow the wine the time to grow in texture and mouthfeel. |

Vinous (96)The 2014 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is positively stunning. There are many things about this wine that are super-impressive, but what stands out most is how soft and silky the tannins are. Because of that, the 2014 is much more approachable than it usually is, and yet also conveys the feeling of translucence that is such a signature of this site and wine. I am not sure I have ever tasted a young Bricco delle Viole with this much purity of fruit. The 2014 is total class. Don't miss it. |

Vinous (95+)Vajra's 2010 Barolo is striking. Freshly cut flowers, mint, crushed rocks, pine and aromatic spices all take shape in the 2010 Barolo Ravera. Vibrant and pulsating to the core, the 2010 impresses for its pure tension. Freshly cut flowers, mint and sweet spices add lift, but ultimately the 2010 is a dark, brooding Barolo that is going to require cellaring. There is so much to like here. |

Vinous (98)The 2014 Ruchottes-Chambertin is a wondrous wine. Two recent tastings in Burgundy reconfirmed its strong performance when poured blind at the Burgfest tasting. It has an intense pomegranate and raspberry scented bouquet that seems to switch up through the gears with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied and lithe, laden with succulent black fruit and insistent grip, perhaps just beginning to close up for a while. Outstanding. Tasted in Burgundy. |

Youthfully disjointed on the palate, combining penetrating liquid minerality and strong, almost citrussy acidity; I wanted a bit more balancing fruit. Very chewy, salty, concentrated wine with a finishing suggestion of crab apple that suggests late harvesting. With its pronounced acid element, this is tough going today. |

I've had the great fortune of tasting this wine from barrel over the course of four years and twice again this summer during my visits to the Conterno estates (in Gattinara and in Monforte d'Alba). |

Vinous (93)Ferruccio Grimaldi's 2010 Barolo is an excellent introduction to the vintage. Dark red cherry, plum, cinnamon and new leather notes emerge from the glass in a distinctive, medium-bodied Barolo. The 2010 stands out for its energy, balance and poise. Freshly cut flowers and tobacco linger on the finish. The 2010 is showing beautifully at this stage, especially if given a little aeration. Dried flowers and spices linger on the lifted finish. I very much like the sense of energy and intensity here. Grimaldi's Barolo is made from plots in Ravera and Terlo, and aged in a combination of cask and smaller French oak barrels. |
