  • Emidio Pepe Trebbiano d'Abruzzo 2021 (6x75cl)

Introducing the esteemed Emidio Pepe Trebbiano d'Abruzzo 2021, a white wine of exceptional calibre from Abruzzo, Central Italy. This exemplary spirit is born of the ancient winemaking traditions of the Pepe family, who have cultivated this region's distinct grape varietals since 1964. The Trebbiano d'Abruzzo 2021 is exclusively handpicked and vinified using a traditional, methodical process. The grapes are softly pressed by hand and fermented naturally in glass-lined cement, ensuring superior clarity and purity of flavour. This meticulous procedure continues into the ageing process, preserved for two years in the bottle to bestow a bold, citrusy profile with an undercurrent of intense minerality. The Emidio Pepe Trebbiano d'Abruzzo 2021 not only promises sublime quality and exemplary craftsmanship but offers an immersive sensory journey to the heart of Italian viticulture, capturing the soul of the land in each sip.

  • Etienne Sauzet Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2021 (3x75cl)

    Burghound (93-96)

Don't Miss! An overtly floral-suffused nose features notes of lilac, carnation and acacia blossom that are trimmed in spice, citrus rind and soft wood wisps. The strikingly pure and beautifully defined larger-bodied flavors are not super-dense but I very much like the texture, all wrapped in a clean, bone-dry and compact finish that flashes plenty of focused power. This could also use a bit more depth but that shouldn't be an issue. As an aside, for those readers who were Sauzet fans 25-ish years ago, the '21 Bâtard reminds me quite a bit of the 1993, which is one of Sauzet's all-time great vintages.

Pale but pretty colour. Light fruit on the nose. Spared from the frost, and as is typical of such cuvees in 2021, the wine feels more complete – in fact, displaying a particularly long finish. This avoids also the blocky side of Clos Vougeot, showing instead a rather fine fresh but light strawberry fruit. One could almost suggest that it is ethereal for this appellation! • Foradori Sgarzon 2021 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (94)

The 2021 Teroldego Sgarzon is an elegant beauty. Roses and cloves complement bright cherries and strawberries. It's silky to the core, balancing sweet red fruits and acidity, creating a perfectly harmonious red. The Sgarzon finishes remarkably fresh yet potent and long, with a framing of gentle tannins, and licorice and mineral hints that linger on. The 2021 is quite possibly the prettiest interpretation of Sgarzon to date.

  • Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin VV 2014 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (91)

Moderately saturated medium red. Complex nose melds strawberry, flowers, game and mocha. Deeper than the Morey-Saint-Denis Clos Solon; brisk, salty and concentrated, offering considerable personality and sex appeal. This very sappy village wine shows excellent clarity and length, finishing with harmonious tannins.

  • Fratelli Alessandria Barolo 2014 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (91+)

Now with a few months in bottle, Alessandria's 2014 Barolo is a real powerhouse. Smoke, scorched earth, tobacco, menthol, licorice and wild cherry all convey an impression of gravitas, as this potent, muscular Barolo shows off its personality. The 2014 has quite a bit of density and richness at this level. I won't be surprised if it turns out even better than this note suggests. There is so much going on here.
