  • IDDA Etna Bianco 2021 (6x75cl)

As an expert connoisseur, I am captivated by the exquisite IDDA Etna Bianco 2021. This alluring Sicilian white wine is produced by the collaboration between two notable wine families; the winemaking maestros of Tuscan estate Tenuta di Trinoro and the Ribera family of Etna. With meticulous harvesting of the native Carricante variety from volcanic slopes, this exceptional white delivers a heady and harmonious blend of minerality and acidity. Meticulous vinification in stainless steel tanks preserve bright fruit notes, underpinning a flinty minerality and succulent citrus intrigue. Complex and vibrant, the IDDA Etna Bianco 2021 personifies the unique expression of Etna's diverse terroir. Savour every drop of this testament to the transformative power of volcanic soils and Italian craftmanship.

  • Jean & Gilles Lafouge Auxey Duresses Hautes 2021 (6x75cl)

Introducing the Jean & Gilles Lafouge Auxey Duresses Hautes 2021, a burgundy icon from illustrious vineyards in Auxey Duresses, a wine village in Côte de Beaune, France. Produced by the celebrated vignerons, Jean and Gilles Lafouge, who attained ecological certification in 2009, this red wine communicates their commitment to sustainable, organic viticulture. Hand-harvested from 40-year-old vines, it undergoes traditional vinification in open wooden vats, followed by 18 months ageing in oak barrels. The resultant wine is an elegant, harmonious expression of place; bursting with redose, cherry, and raspberry on the nose; nuanced by earthy, herb undertones. On the palate, it delivers a concentrated yet fresh profile framed by solid tannins, culminating in a lingering finish. A testament to the estate's meticulous attention to detail, the Jean & Gilles Lafouge Auxey Duresses Hautes 2021 is not only a magnificent representation of traditional Burgundian winemaking but a tribute to the timeless allure of Pinot Noir.

  • Jean Chauvenet Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains 2021 (6x75cl)

    Burghound (91-93)

Ripe yet cool aromas include those of cassis, poached plum, an array of spice elements plus a whiff of the sauvage. The very rich and even bigger and more voluminous large-scaled flavors also brim with sappy dry extract before culminating in a balanced, powerful and lingering finish where a touch of bitter chocolate slowly emerges. This isn’t massive in the way that it usually is though it is borderline opulent, which is a descriptor I use very rarely with respect to the 2021 reds.

  • Jean Foillard Morgon Cote Du Py 2021 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93)

The 2021 Morgon Côte du Py is fresh, lithe and elegant, with aromas of tart plums, red and black currants, Indian spices, rose petals and wet stones. On the palate, fine-grained, latticed tannins support the crunchy-fruited core, and an impressive depth of flavor expands to include sweet soil and spearmint tones. The tangy acids work to further emphasize the underlying salinity, which serves as the driving force leading the crisp, wizened finish. This is a wonderful release from the domaine, surely worth seeking out if not too late.

    Jancis Robinson (17.5)

Bottled. Especially pale rim. Very floral and hedonistic. Sweet start and surely just what burgundy lovers currently seek. Really rather gorgeous fruit and precision with just a little dry finish so probably worth waiting a while. Very long.

  • Jean-Claude Boisset Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2021 (6x75cl)

    Jancis Robinson (18)

Cask sample. Meaty, orange-peel nose with lots of edge and energy. Like essence of Morey. Really exciting but with a flourish rather than concentration. Great balance and refinement as well as depth. So well done! Oddly appealing already but certainly not simple.

Tank sample. Hint of liquorice and impressive substance on the palate. Not as savoury as the southern Côte d'Or but very pleasing.

  • Jean-Claude Boisset Gevrey-Chambertin 2021 (6x75cl)

    Jancis Robinson (16.5+)

Cask sample. Bright, light crimson. Quite a meaty nose but the fruit is bright and energetic. Pure, fresh fruit – lighter than the average Gevrey from another vintage but a very approachable, lively wine. Lots of ripe-tomato perfume.

Only down 40% thanks to general protection. Delicious pale lemon colour with a few green reflexes. Power in a chiselled rather than a fat style. Huge opulence on the palate, luxurious white fruit, ripe pears, not going as far as peach, and still managing a certain elegance. All in place here. A long and ripely scented finish. All one would hope for. Drink from 2027-2030. Tasted: November 2022

  • Jean-Marc Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes 2021 (6x75cl)

    Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93)

82% down in production I am told, meaning just 1 x 350 litre barrel, a new one. Pale lemon with a light green tint. Quite a concentration on the bouquet, fruit and oak integrated. Excellent tension behind, the fruit being concentrated enough to stand up to the oak, and the finish shows significant promise. This will come out well – if you can find any! Drink from 2026-2032. • Joseph Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches 2021 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (92-94)

The 2021 Beaune Clos des Mouches Rouge 1er Cru is one of my picks from Drouhin this year. Wonderful, vivacious red fruit leap from the glass, hints of sous-bois and dried rose petal. The palate is beautifully balanced with fine mineralité, demonstrating more complexity than the preceding Beaune Cras with more grip on the finish. Superb.

  • Joseph Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Blanc 2021 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (91-93)

The 2021 Beaune Clos des Mouches Blanc 1er Cru is a worthy sideman to the Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot. Lovely citrus peel and crushed limestone scents, this has vigour and focus. The palate is well balanced with a taut line of acidity, tensile yet with ample concentration on the finish. This is certainly worth hunting down.

  • Joseph Drouhin Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru 2021 (3x75cl)

    Vinous (94-96)

One of my favorites from Drouhin this year is the 2021 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru. Splendid and vivacious red and black fruit vie for attention on the nose, the mineralité underneath almost too easy to overlook. The palate is beautifully-structured with crisp tannins, slightly chalky in texture with a very persistent, finely sculpted finish. Impressive.
