Vinous (91+)Deep ruby. Very ripe and warm on the nose, but not pruney or over the top. A big, round wine with lush dark berry and cherry compote flavors and a serious, chewy texture. A bit youthfully inexpressive today but the power and concentration of the material are obvious. Notes of espresso and candied licorice emerged with aeration. Frederic Jaboulet noted that production was down from a normal 20,000 cases to 7,000. |

Jeb Dunnuck (100)Just a powerhouse of a wine that does everything right, the 2000 Château Pavie is drinking incredibly well today, offering huge blackcurrant and chocolatey darker berry fruits as well as loads of truffly earth, tobacco, and spice. Full-bodied, deep, and concentrated on the palate, it stays flawlessly balanced, and while I suspect the acidity is quite low, it has an incredible sense of freshness and a weightless texture. Fully mature, yet in the early part of its drink window, it has another two decades or prime drinking ahead of it. |

Wine Advocate (97)This amazing wine has turned out to be a modern-day classic. Like its bigger sister, Pavie, it has dropped some of its baby fat and exoticism, but remains a dense ruby/purple color with notes of mocha, mulberries and black cherry jam buttressed by serious, ripe tannin and decent acidity. Almost over-the-top in its youth, it has calmed down considerably, is well-delineated and pure with great balance as well as a full-bodied, vigorous, exuberant mouthfeel. One of the superstars of the vintage, the 2003 Pavie Decesse is capable of lasting another 10-15+ years. |

Wine Advocate (95+)A beautiful crushed rock/liqueur of minerality characterizes this inky/purple-hued St.-Emilion. Tannic, with lots of pure black raspberry and black cherry fruit intermixed with a notion of charcoal as well as the aforementioned rocky/powdered stone component, this long distance runner requires another 5-6 years of cellaring. It should age easily through 2030+. |

Wine Advocate (96)The luxury cuvee from Faugeres (owned by Bernard Magrez), the 2000 Peby Faugeres is the real deal. Sadly, only 500+ cases were made of this compelling St.-Emilion. An inky/blue/purple hue is accompanied by aromas of espresso roast, blueberry liqueur, smoke, and graphite. Thick and unctuously-textured with impressive purity and depth as well as full-bodied power and richness, it needs another 2-3 years of cellaring, and should last for two decades. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (90-92)Bright, deep ruby. Floral, perfumed aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, cherry, violet pastille, mint and shoe polish; I find strong merlot and cabernet character here, which makes for a complex nose indeed. Lush, dense and rather high-pitched; a lovely combination of sheer fruit and finesse. Still youthfully backward, but already shows superb sucrosity and silkiness of texture. Almost no sign of the new oak today. Solidly structured Pomerol, finishing long and subtle, with a note of chocolatey torrefaction. The tannins hit the palate late and coat the back of the mouth. This offers terrific potential. |

Immerse yourself in the sublime elegance of the Peyre Rose Coteaux Languedoc Oro Blanc 2003. This highly sought-after wine originates from Coteaux du Languedoc, France’s oldest viticultural area, famous for its diverse soil and climate. Masterfully created by renowned winemaker Marlene Soria, this treasure is a testament to her spontaneous and creative approach to wine-making. Produced from vineyards planted on limestone and hard sandstone soils, the Peyre Rose Coteaux Languedoc Oro Blanc 2003 is a blend of Marsanne and Roussanne grapes. These two varieties are harvested manually at optimum ripeness to ensure the finest quality. The wine is then aged in oak barrels, creating a rich, complex character. The Peyre Rose Coteaux Languedoc Oro Blanc 2003 presents an expressive aroma, leading to a palate full of ripe fruit and honeyed nuances. The magnificent minerality and balanced acidity make this a world-class wine that encapsulates the spirit of true artisan winemaking. |

Wine Advocate (97)The 2000 Château Pichon Baron is just getting better and better and better. Perhaps the magnum format played its part, but nevertheless...just...wow. This is a millennial Left Bank with the keys to the top drawer. It has an incredibly precise, mineral-driven bouquet with intense black fruit infused with cedar and graphite scents. It just reeks of Pauillac in an almost uncompromising, yet compelling manner. The palate is structured, stylish and effortless, extraordinarily pure and unerringly youthful. This is a Pichon Baron saying, You ain't seen nothing yet. You could broach this now if you wanted, but the clever people will wisely bunker this for another decade and gloat from 2025 onward. Wine Advocate (98)The limited cuvee 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve des Deux Freres, which is aged 40% in tank and 60% in one-, two-, and three-year-old barrels as well as large demi-muids, is essentially the same as Mon Aieul, but additional press wine is added. This beefs the wine up to an even more extraordinarily concentrated character. This is another of the Chateauneuf du Papes of the vintage, a wine of remarkable length and prodigious levels of richness. It is no wimpy wine at 16.5% alcohol, but you would never know that from tasting it. Dense purple to the rim, with a huge nose of scorched earth, blackberry and blueberry liqueur, creme de cassis, roasted meat juices, and a hint of Provencal herbs interwoven with licorice and a touch of balsamic, it is voluptuously textured, with striking body, low acidity, and amazing concentration. This fabulous bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape should drink well for 20+ years. |

Wine Spectator (95-100)Fascinating aromas of crushed berries and bark, with hints of wet earth. Full-bodied and medium-sweet, with a solid concentration of polished, round tannins and a medium to long finish. Very well-crafted. Fantastic young Port from Churchill. Their best ever. Score range: 95-100 |
