Wine Advocate (98)The 2020 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese is intense and complex on the still introverted but complex nose that shows clear, bright fruit aromas (baby pineapple) intermingled with fine, flinty slate notes. What an aristocratic appearance! Round, crystalline and saline on the palate, this 2020 Auslese is much more openhearted and fruity as well as frisky and frivolous than it pretends to be on the nose. This is a really Catholic Riesling or a picture-book Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese. Its finish, however, is Protestant: rigorously linear, straight and with serious structure and grip. All in all, this is the world's most ecumenical Sonnenuhr. Pure fascination. 7% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine from AP 38 21 in July 2022. |

The creamy palate delivers a corresponding combination of freshness and cooling green herbacity as well as bright grapefruit and lime citricity that is remarkable for a wine at once richly confitured in flavors and slicked with honeyed traces of botrytis. Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (98-100)This hits you right off the first nose, driven by slate and crushed rocks, setting the tone and the architecture, guiding the fruit through the palate. Cassis, bilberry, tobacco leaf, graphite, crushed mint, finessed and sculpted, this is a gorgeous Lafite, with fine tannins and the squid ink character that seems to be present in all of this stable of wines except Moulin de Duhart. Hidden power, where nothing is too much and yet everything is concentrated, once again proving that the terroir at this particular spot has its own personality that stands out every year. High Cabernet as ever, combined with around 15% press wine. Not the concentration of 2022, but in many ways showcasing the essence of Lafite more squarely, and this will delight anyone lucky enough to own it in future years. 45hl/h yield, highest since 2015, harvest September 7 to 29. 100% new oak. New cellar underway, due for completion in 2027. I am giving it 10 years to begin entering its opening window, a little less than usual but it will make no difference to how long you can cellar it. |

Emanating from the fabled Château Lafon vineyards in Listrac-Médoc, France, Lafon 2020 wine is a sterling declaration of elegance. As an experienced fine wine connoisseur, I am impressed with this exceptional Bordeaux, crafted by the eminent and time-honoured Château Lafon family of winemakers. Exhibiting the true finesse of Médoc terroir, Lafon 2020 weaves together a tantalising medley of blackcurrant, plum, and velvety tannins imparting a balanced, pleasurable finish. This exuberantly rich wine is made from a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, harvested manually at their prime. What sets Lafon 2020 apart is its 12 to 18 months ageing period in seasoned French oak barrels, endowing it with nuanced smoky and spicy undertones. This captivating libation truly demonstrates Lafon's commitment to quality, reflecting their devotion and passion for viniculture. Jeb Dunnuck (94-96)Loads of red and black currants, lead pencil shavings, tobacco, and dried flower notes emerge from the 2020 Château Langoa Barton, a gorgeous looking 2020 offering medium to full-bodied richness, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It has the concentrated, backward vibe of the vintage yet brings remarkable opulence and texture. It's impressive. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (96)The 2016 Les Forts de Latour is the clear highlight among these new releases from Latour. The first thing that is evident about the 2016 is the pedigree of the vintage. Undisputedly great. Readers will find a potent, dark Forts de Latour endowed with massive concentration and tons of depth. The 2016 won't be ready to drink anytime soon, but it holds tons of promise. Hints of gravel, sage, licorice and pencil shavings linger. The 2016 was impressive a few years ago. It is even better today. |

James Suckling (99-100)The aromas in this young Margaux are so primary, reminding me of grape must fermenting in the vat, then turning to perfumes and flowers. Violets and roses. Full-bodied but it comes across as so agile and bright, with vivid acidity that makes the wine crunchy and linear. As Alexis, one of the owners of Margaux said, this really shows the DNA of the estate. Weightless. One of the wines of the vintage. 3.6 pH. Blend of 89% cabernet sauvignon, 5% merlot, 4% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (89)The 2018 Maucaillou is a rich, heady wine, just as it was from barrel. A blast of dark cherry fruit, cedar, licorice and tobacco hits the palate, all wrapped up by firm tannins that are a bit imposing at this stage. Give the 2018 a few years in bottle. There's a lot of wine here. |
