Tasted at the UGC in London. Ripe nose with lime, gooseberry and a touch of cut grass: good definition and lift. The palate is ripe and full of grapefruit, lime and gooseberry notes, but just lacking some tension towards the finish. This should be better considering that 2007 was a favourable vintage for Bordeaux Blanc. Drink now-2014. Tasted November 2009.

    Wine Advocate (91)

There are 20,000 cases of the gorgeous 2003 Carruades de Lafite. Despite record heat in June, July and August, this wine only hit 12.8% alcohol, which seems modest compared to the higher alcohol levels of 2009 and 2010. A final blend of 50% Merlot, 48% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc has resulted in a second wine with a Lafite Rothschild-like character, plenty of creme de cassis, cedarwood and graphite notes as well as a supple, lush texture. It has reached full maturity where it should remain for another 5-10 years.

    Wine Advocate (96)

Two recent tastings of the 2000 La Gomerie both reinforced my comments of seven years ago. An interesting thing about this 100% Merlot is how well it ages. Perhaps it deserves more attention. Its dense purple color is followed by a beautiful perfume of spring flowers, creme de cassis, jammy black cherries, licorice, graphite, and espresso roast. Full-bodied, deep, superbly concentrated, pure, long, and made in a modern style, it should drink well for another decade.

    Wine Enthusiast (97)

One of the great Blanc de Blancs Champagnes, this wine only hints of its age and maturity. Up front, the wine has layers of white fruits and a steely texture. It is behind those features that the brioche and almond character begins to show. This is a wonderfully balanced wine, ready to drink now.

Always one of the star crus bourgeois, Chasse-Spleen has produced a 2003 that manages to combine the rich, ripe fruits of the year with the right tannins and sweetness, along with blackberry fruits. It has the elegance and delicacy of Moulis, as well as some good intensity of flavor. A wine that will certainly age for 10 years or more.

  • Chateau la Gomerie Saint Emilion Grand Cru 2000 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (96)

Two recent tastings of the 2000 La Gomerie both reinforced my comments of seven years ago. An interesting thing about this 100% Merlot is how well it ages. Perhaps it deserves more attention. Its dense purple color is followed by a beautiful perfume of spring flowers, creme de cassis, jammy black cherries, licorice, graphite, and espresso roast. Full-bodied, deep, superbly concentrated, pure, long, and made in a modern style, it should drink well for another decade.

  • Cheval Blanc 2007 (3x75cl)

    Decanter (96)

There is plumpness to the black fruit that gives beautiful impact on the attack, and here it combines with a tightening of the tannins from the mid-palate onwards. A deep richness to the texture tells you this is a complex and supremely confident wine.

  • Clarendon Hills Brookman Merlot 2007 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (92)

Full ruby. Deep, smoky aromas of blackcurrant, dried rose and cracked pepper, with a slow-building herbal quality. At once juicy and smooth, with intense red fruit compote flavors over a firm mineral underpinning. Finishes spicy and long, with supple tannins arriving late and adding gentle grip. Drinking well right now but this should be even better with a couple more years of bottle age. This was aged in 85% new French oak.

  • Clarendon Hills Romas Grenache 2007 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (93+)

(84-year-old vines) Saturated ruby. The most aromatically complex of this year's set of grenache bottlings, displaying red and dark berries, cherry, rooty sassafras, smoky herbs and a sexy floral quality. Rich, palate-staining raspberry and boysenberry flavors are given shape by fine-grained tannins, which gain power with air. Packed with dense fruit but slow to show itself right now, finishing with a late note of exotic floral pastilles and very good youthful grip. This could use a couple years to unwind.

  • Clos de l'Oratoire 2007 (12x75cl)

    Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (88)

Bright ruby-red. Liqueur-like black cherry, blackberry and minerals on the nose, complicated by a suggestion of Indian spices. Juicy, firm and sweet, with good intensity to the moderately complex flavors of crushed dark berries, fruitcake, bitter chocolate and graphite. This pliant midweight boasts good spine but has also put on flesh since I tasted it in barrel. Finishes with serious, dusty, spreading tannins.

  • Clos de Tart Grand Cru 2007 (1x150cl)

    Wine Enthusiast (95)

Big and tannic, while at the same time potentially rich and smooth, this is, as always, an impressive wine. It has weight and dense texture. A solid wine that shows great potential; for now, revel in the plum juice and final acidity that provide a bright counterpoint to the solid, brooding structure.
