Perhaps it deserves more attention. Its dense purple color is followed by a beautiful perfume of spring flowers, creme de cassis, jammy black cherries, licorice, graphite, and espresso roast. Full-bodied, deep, superbly concentrated, pure, long, and made in a modern style, it should drink well for another decade. |

Pure, highly finessed and fruity on the palate, this is a very elegant and balanced Pinot Noir with remarkable finesse and elegance. Very expressive but also charming. This is a pure 2013 vintage that was fermented in stainless steel. Tasted April 2018. Jérôme Coessens handcrafts stunningly individual Pinot Noirs (Champagne, of course, but also red wines) from one single vineyard, Largillier, a 3.5-hectare plot in Ville-sur-Arce, Côte des Bar, which is located on calcareous clay, Kimmeridgian soils structured with a high content of limestone. Jérôme has identified four different sections of the different textures of the soil, enabling him to create a range of diverse styles and flavors. Namely, the NV Brut Nature (based on the 2013 harvest) is a beautifully round, highly finessed and elegant Côte des Bar with a long, intense and charming finish. The fruit is orange and passion fruit bleeding into plums and tea leaves and sage and mint and thyme and scribbles of pencils and late-summer nights and the finish is like walking through a just-harvested hay field when the first cool rain of autumn is falling soft as mist. Love this. It's delicious, delicious, delicious. I tasted it right at the end of a very long tasting – seven hours on my feet – and it quite literally revived my flagging soul. |
