James Suckling (94)What a wine this is. This combines density and power with fruit and richness. Lovely notes of dried flowers and minerals in the nose and palate. Full and tannic, but incredibly fresh. This is a serious 2003, but still needs five years. Pull the cork in 2015. 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. |

The La Croizille 2003 is a fine Bordeaux produced by the esteemed Château La Croizille. This family-owned vineyard, renowned for fusing traditional viticulture with advanced technology, boasts a breathtaking landscape in the Saint-Laurent-des-Combes, Saint-Émilion region. The 2003 vintage exudes an enigmatic blend of red and black fruit enhanced by a hint of spice. The engaging initial palate unfolds into a sophisticated, balanced fusion of tannin and acidity, resulting in a memorable finish. The wine is crafted predominantly from Merlot, supplemented by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Meticulously aged in French Oak barrels, La Croizille 2003 conveys an expressive, concentrated taste, attributed to the sun-soaked, limestone-clay soils of the vineyard. Connoisseurs and collectors desire this wine for its longevity and its embodiment of the vineyard's unique terroir. Toast to elegance with La Croizille 2003. |

Vinous (92)La Spinetta's 2003 Barolo Campè is a pretty wine to drink now and over the next 5-10 years, but probably on the shorter end of that window. Worn in leather, mocha, spices, smoke, plums and earthiness meld together nicely in the glass. The 80% new oak is totally integrated, while the tannins are also soft, yet retain a good measure of precision. Now fully mature or close to it, the 2003 will continue to drink nicely based on its density and depth. |

Wine Advocate (100)The 2003 Lafite Rothschild comes as close to perfection as any of the great Lafites made over the past three decades (1982, 1986, 1996, 2000, 2005, 2008, 2009 and 2010). This sensational effort came in at 12.7% natural alcohol, it is made in the style of one of this estate’s great classics, the 1959. Composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it exhibits a dense ruby/purple color to the rim along with a luxurious bouquet of cedarwood, lead pencil shaving, white chocolate, cocoa and cassis. Fat, rich, opulent and full-bodied with low acidity and stunning seductiveness and complexity, this noble wine possesses a bountiful, generous, heady style. It is just coming into its plateau of maturity where it should hold for 20-25 years. This is one of the candidates for the wine of the vintage – make no mistake about that. |

Wine Advocate (100)2003 was one of the hottest, earliest Bordeaux vintages ever. Some vines suffered from lack of moisture, but old vines and clay subsoil at Enclos saw this vineyard through. The Merlot harvest occurred between September 8 and 13, and the Cabernet Sauvignon was picked between September 22 and 30. The 2003 Latour is a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot. Six percent of the press wine was added to the final blend. It has a medium to deep garnet-purple color, then wow—it explodes from the glass with bombastic black and blue fruits, followed up by meat, wood smoke, sandalwood and Indian spice accents with underlying floral wafts. The palate is full, rich, velvety, seductive and very long on the finish. There were only 10,800 cases made (rather than the normal 15,000-20,000). |

Wine Advocate (93)The 2003 Scrio (100% Syrah) is another terrific effort from Le Macchiole. Packed with clove, cinnamon, sweet dark fruit, toasted oak and mint notes, it is opulent and concentrated yet light on its feet, boasting extraordinary length and an eternal finish defined by a lingering note of sweetness. It, too, has improved considerably over the last few months and there is plenty of fruit to balance the tannins of the vintage. Simply put, it is a knock-out effort from this very challenging harvest. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2015. |

Vinous (95)Bright ruby-red. Knockout nose combines strawberry, underbrush, minerals and stone; like a fully ripe essence of Clos de la Roche. Superconcentrated and sweet, with the wine's distinct minerality giving it class and definition. Superripe but not over the top. Silky and full; a nobler version of the superb Combottes. Finishes tannic, minerally and very long, with a lingering juiciness. Captures the great potential of this vintage. |

Vinous (94+)Bright, deep red. Musky, slightly reduced aromas of raspberry and minerals. Wine Advocate (94)A healthy, youthful dark plum/ruby/purple color is followed by a bouquet of smoke, barbecued meats, black currants and new saddle leather. With full body and sweet tannin, this 2003 is strutting its stuff. Although it is not as fine as the 1989, 1990, or 2000, it is a complex, classic Pauillac to enjoy over the next decade. |

It is just coming into its plateau of maturity where it should hold for 20-25 years. This is one of the candidates for the wine of the vintage – make no mistake about that. |

Wine Spectator (95-100)This is seductive. Opulent aromas of chocolate, berry, plum and minerals. Full-bodied, with a fabulous concentration of fruit and supersilky tannins. This is the best wine of Pomerol and one of the most beautiful of 2003. Really exciting. Score range: 95-100 |

Vinous (88)Medium yellow. Less vintage-typical aromas of orange, nutmeg and flint. Then more vibrant in the mouth, with a fine-grained texture and enticing floral lift. A bit warm on the end, but finishes with very good thrust and length. This has finesse for a 2003. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (90-93)Expressive, musky aromas of peach, lime, quinine, white flowers and spices. Fat, chewy and very rich, with more depth of flavor than the foregoing 2003 samples. The captivating floral quality carries through in the mouth. A distinctly palate-coating wine with excellent stuffing and length. |

Offers a compellingly silky texture and lovely sweetness but comes across as youthfully closed today, even a bit reduced. But this boasts superb concentration and purity of flavor and a very long, harmonious finish. I'd give this a good eight to ten years in the cellar. |

Vinous (91+)Deep ruby-red. Slightly reduced, reserved nose hints at superripe dark fruits and roasted nuts. Extremely ripe but a bit youthfully stunted, with slightly roasted, chocolatey flavor. Solid and chewy, but not revealing its personality today. Finishes with substantial tannins. Today I don't find a lot of verve. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (87-89)Bright ruby-red. Currant and tobacco on the nose, along with some exotic oak tones. Not hugely fleshy but nicely fresh for the vintage, with a flavor of sweet dark raspberry. Finishes with dusty, strong tannins and very good persistence. This is developing nicely. |
