Jean Grivot Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Roncieres 2013 (6x75cl)

Wine Advocate (92-94)

The 2013 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru les Roncières could be one of Etienne Grivot's finest offerings. It has a more red fruit spectrum than the Pruliers with red cherries, mint and then later, earthy aromas developing. There is good transparency here. The palate is very tense and ripe, the acidity more “cutting” than the Pruliers with more mineralité on the vivacious finish. Excellent.

As it should, this presently has an entirely different aromatic profile with its ripe and fresh combination of earth and sauvage characters together with both red and dark currant scents. Here too there is really lovely mouth feel to the tautly muscular flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the energetic, detailed and beautifully persistent finish. This is also admirably seamless and should amply reward extended keeping.

Dark red with ruby highlights. Subtle scents of black cherry and dark raspberry complicated by menthol and violet. Juicy, spicy and energetic but a bit youthfully imploded, displaying an almost metallic minerality; aeration brought suppler notes of redcurrant and earth and a sexy spicy sweetness.

Vinous (88-90)

The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Village has an appealing bouquet of blackberry, wild strawberry and orange blossom aromas that demonstrate a little more delineation than some of the other Village Crus from Méo-Camuzet’s négociant arm. The palate is medium-bodied with vivid red fruit, good tension and fine tannin. Though it tapers a little toward the finish, this is a fine Village Cru to enjoy over several years.

Les Cailles is one of the Chevillon brothers' best parcels, planted in the 1930s on a stony site next to Les St-Georges. It's an impressive red showing stony minerality, some vanilla spice and more underlying tannin than you think at first. The acidity drives the finish of the wine.

Robert Chevillon Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots 2014 (12x75cl)

Wine Advocate (90-92)

The 2014 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Chaignots comes from 1.55 hectares of 60-year-old vines. It has a well defined, slightly masculine bouquet that requires some encouragement. Darker fruit here than the Village Cru, yet still detailed. The palate is brisk and lively on the opening, quite citric in the mouth, darker fruit than say, Mugneret-Gibourg's own Les Chaignots -- but with a brightness and lucidity coming through on the playful finish. Very fine.

Robert Chevillon Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots 2016 (6x75cl)

Wine Advocate (93+)

Since fully 1.5 hectares of vines produced a mere four barrels of wine, it's no surprise that the 2016 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots is preternaturally concentrated, and tasted blind I mistook it for the domaine's Cailles. Unfurling in the glass with notes of rose petals, violets, orange rind and ripe cherries, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and strikingly intense, structured around rich, velvety tannins that caress the palate, and concluding with a long, beautifully lively finish. Readers who can find a few bottles shouldn't hesitate.

The 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots is superb, bursting with expressive aromas of cherries, violets, bergamot and grilled squab. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, velvety and supple with a layered core that entirely cloaks its fine structuring tannins in succulent fruit. This is an elegant, open-knit Chaignots which will offer a broad drinking window.

The 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Saint-Georges is a stunning wine in the making, soaring from the glass with a beautiful bouquet of cassis, violets, wild plums, wood smoke and rich soil tones. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and multidimensional, with serious reserves of beautifully refined structuring tannin and concentrated fruit, concluding with a long and sapid finish. The 2015 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Pruliers has a perfumed bouquet with very good vigor, ample red and black fruit that seem very expressive, subtle hints of undergrowth and cold wet limestone percolating through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, very harmonious with good salinity, especially on the sappy finish that is beautifully defined. The body and presence here is superb, maintaining that nascent restraint that will be relieved once in bottle and given requisite bottle age.
