The 2020 Château de Sales has a little greenness on the nose, but it’s fresh with attractive black currant fruit. You’d just think it came from a much cooler growing season. The medium-bodied palate offers dry tannins, touches of leathery black fruit and a slightly bitter finish. Hopefully this will gain more cohesion during barrel aging.Inc. VAT£183.98 -

A sensational effort, and one of the two finest Clinets made before the 2008, this prodigious wine made by the late Jean-Michel Arcaute has always been a sprinter out of the gate. Full-bodied, powerful and rich, it is not as nuanced or complex as the top four or five Pomerols, but close. Red berry fruit, red cherries, a touch of fig jam coming through with aeration. It is not as complex as the top tier vintages from Ronan Laborde and his team, yet there is charm in spades. I continue to love the 2010 Château Clinet, and I'd say it's just now in the early phases of its prime drinking window. Based on 85% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc, it has the powerful, full-bodied, structured style of the vintage as well as beautiful red and black fruits, spicy wood, tobacco, and graphite-like aromas and flavors.
