With an unctuous texture, full-bodied power and tremendous levels of tannin (largely concealed behind a cascade of rich fruit), this is a fabulous effort from a beautifully situated St.-Emilion premier grand cru classe. There is little left to be said of the 2009 vintage - it has been evaluated, reevaluated and dissected in every possible way by now, along with it’s companion vintage, 2010. As great a vintage as it was, producing a great wine wasn’t exactly a no-brainer. Without proper vineyard management, tannins can be tough and a touch green. Fortunately, many Chateaux refused to miss the opportunity to make nearly perfect wines.
