Wine Advocate (98)An absolutely staggering vintage for this historic and tiny estate, this 2006 has a huge nose of tropical fruit, including pineapple, as well as a liqueur of minerality, with quince, white citrus, and a hint of subtle toast. Full-bodied, with huge concentration, an almost flinty mouthfeel, zesty acidity, and a monster finish, this is a prodigious Laville Haut-Brion that needs about 10 years of cellaring and should last 30 or more years. |

Decanter (98)Layer upon layer of complexity, texture and tannin continue to delight and surprise the palate. There’s silk and satin, subtle roasted coffee beans, sweet berry fruits, bracken, toffee and soft leather. Full of finesse and perfume; you would be thrilled to open a bottle now. But it’s also only just beginning to reveal its heart. |

Wine Advocate (92)Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London. The 2006 Les Forts de Latour has a much more precise and lively bouquet than the Le Petit Mouton: blackberry, briary and vanilla emerging from the glass, suggesting that it needs another couple of years to reach its peak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, commendable depth of fruit and tangible mineralité. This is better than some of the Pauillac Grand Vins, such is the detail and energy on the finish. Superb. Tasted January 2016. |

Wine & Spirit Magazine (95)From a clay and gravel plateau three miles east of Lynch-Bages, this is a blend of sauvignon blanc, semillon and muscadelle planted in 1988. A hot July and a cool, dry August produced this substantial wine with freshness that keeps it sleek and creamy rather than heavy. With long exposure to air it reveals layers of flavor, from mineral to beeswax, preserved lemon peel and lemon meringue. It feels grand, the vinous equivalent of a classic Bentley. |

Wine Spectator (92-94)Lots of blackberry and spice character, with chocolate undertones. Full-bodied, with lovely fine tannins and a long finish. A textbook claret, with refinement yet power. Love the touch of sweet fruit on the end. Almost Burgundian. Lovely and pretty. Score range: 92-94 |

Wine Enthusiast (94)Yes, this wine is tannic. To begin with it seems austere and mineral. But then the substrate of black berry juice asserts itself. The fruits are fresh rather than sweet, combining with leather, spice and a presence of new wood. Typical of Montrose, it is hard to appreciate this young, with those tannins needing to open out. But wait 10 years. |

Wine Advocate (94+)Planted in pure limestone above Gerard Perse’s other famous vineyard/terroir, Chateau Pavie, this 10-acre site’s vines average 47 years of age. Fashioned from remarkably low yields, this blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc is a powerful, dense, tannic wine that will require considerable time to round into shape. It exhibits a dense purple color along with sweet aromas of mulberries, black currants, minerals, cold steel, graphite, and background spice. Full-bodied, highly-extracted, dense, and made in an unfashionably tannic, broodingly backward style, this is a wine for the ages. It requires 8-10 years of cellaring, and should last for 25-30+. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (93)The 2006 Pavie-Macquin is a powerful, burly wine, especially in its feel. Game, smoke, leather, dark spice, chocolate and licorice add to a feeling of virile intensity. Disease pressure at the end of a cool growing season led to a compact harvest in 2006. There is good depth, but less in the way of charm and sensuality. I imagine the 2006 will always retain its somewhat rustic personality. |

Wine Advocate (94)Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London. The 2006 Château Pontet-Canet has an extremely pure, vivacious, perfumed bouquet with crushed violets infusing the blueberry and blackberry fruit. But it is all about the detail and precision in this wine. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip in the mouth: lightly toasted black fruit, dried orange peel, cedar and a pinch of white pepper. This feels very cohesive and poised with just a touch of mint entering right on the finish. What a great wine from Alfred Tesseron and Jean-Michel Comme. Go grab the corkscrew now, but don't feel that this wine has to be opened for another 5-6 years. Tasted January 2016. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (90)Full ruby-red. Sexy aromas of black raspberry and licorice. Sweet, ripe and fairly deep, with good energy to the flavors of black fruits, licorice and spices. Finishes with very good breadth, life and length. An impressive showing for this Cotes de Bourg wine. |

Wine Enthusiast (93)With a high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine has both structured and superbly rich fruit. The tannins are firm, but show a sweet, enticing edge to them, giving a full body and classic, fresh black currant acidity. An impressive wine, which definitely needs to age—five years or more. |
