Vinous - Neal Martin (93-95)The 2017 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru was showing quite a lot of reduction on the nose when I visited (Christophe Roumier was taken aback, as it had been racked three weeks earlier). Fortunately, the palate shows great potential; it’s as beautifully balanced as ever, with a fine bead of acidity. This is more understated and less outgoing than other vintages encountered from barrel, and not quite as persistent on the finish, but with a fine dash of black pepper on the aftertaste. There is something very assured about this Bonnes-Mares, though this year, it is Les Amoureuses that sends tingles down the spine. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (96-100)All three cuvées, white soil, red soil and the new plot, have been blended. Overall two-thirds of the blend comes from white soil Bonnes Mares. Two thirds whole bunch, one third new wood. Glowing rich purple, with a beautiful bouquet demonstrating exquisitely balanced fruit. Ripe of course but there are some red threads in with the darker fruit, fine acidity too, just a sumptuous covering of exquisite dark raspberry and a little touch of blackberry. Bravo! There is a lovely covering of flesh on top of natural vivacity. |

The Gerard Peirazeau et Fils Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 1992 is the epitome of French winemaking mastery, offering exquisite aromatic complexity and a palate bursting with deep, generative flavours. Generously made in the revered Bonnes-Mares appellation of Burgundy, it reflects a careful selection process from a 2.7-acre vineyard blessed with limestone-rich soils and an enviable microclimate. The wine's creation process utilises traditional vinification methods; systematically hand-harvested grapes undergo period-long fermentation in oak barrels to coax out their inherent qualities. Gerard Peirazeau et Fils, a distinguished family-run domaine, habitual in their pursuit of excellence, have nailed the essence of Burgundian style in this wine. A captivating blend of luscious fruit and gentle oak nuances, the 1992 vintage demonstrates their unrivalled attention to detail. Undeniably, the Gerard Peirazeau et Fils Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 1992 is a testament to the tenacious artistry of this prestigious producer. |

Burghound (95)Here too the nose is quite restrained with its admirably pure aromas of red cherry, dark currant, spice and earth along with notes of violet and lavender. I very much like the sense of underlying tension to the succulent, indeed even juicy, medium weight plus flavors that exude a subtle salinity on the tautly muscular and firm finish that flashes just a hint of youthful austerity. This isn't quite as complex as the Chambertin but it's close and it may well close the gap over time as this is also very clearly structured for mid to even longer-term keeping. |

Wine Advocate (95)The 2019 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is beautiful, mingling notions of red plums and raspberries with hints of rose petals, orange rind and warm spices, framed by a deft application of new oak. Medium to full-bodied, bright and concentrated, it has lively acids, ripe tannins and a long, elegantly chalky finish. Fine-boned and vibrant, this has turned out very well indeed. |

Vinous (91-94)The 2021 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru is another attractive wine in this range from Boillot. Vinous (93-95)The 2020 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, matured in 50% new oak, has a precocious bouquet with layers of opulent blackberry, cassis and redcurrant fruit, crushed violets bursting from the glass. This does not hold back. The palate is sweet and velvety smooth on the entry, fine tannins that frame the intense black cherry and cassis fruit with a judicious touch of spice towards the finish. Afford this 5-7 years in the cellar to tame its precocity. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2021 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, from vines planted in 1930/1931, comprises of two barrels this year. The nose was closed when we met, broody blackcurrant and blueberry scents, a bit reduced. The palate is more expressive with fine tannins, shimmering black fruit, orange zest and Asian spices. This builds in the mouth and fans out, whereas other Bonnes-Mares have come across as relatively skinny. This could turn out to be one of the best from this Grand Cru. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (88-91)Black fruits, tar, coffee and mocha on the nose; a bit less vibrant than the Chambolle examples. Big, rich, oaky and velvety, but still closed in the middle. Notes of earth, stone and herbs. Finishes with substantial, broad tannins. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (90-93)Good medium red. Complex, pure nose combines black raspberry, blackberry, herbs, mocha, licorice and rose petal. Very tightly wound today, even a bit lean, and hiding more than itÂ’s showing. Highly perfumed flavors of blackberry, licorice and fresh herbs. Finishes with very firm tannins and excellent length. Less sweet than the Chambolle samples, yet harmonious from the outset. I may be underrating this. Half of these vines were replanted in 1987, as Mugnier replaced a large-berried, thin-skinned clone that was particularly sensitive to rot. |

Vinous (93)(from a blend of 60% white and 40% red soil, says Mugnier) Bright, medium red. Perfumed nose of blueberry, mocha and crushed stone. Plush on entry, then wonderfully fresh in the middle and less plump than the Fuees, with terrific stony verve and mineral intensity to the crushed black fruit flavors. Very broad on the back end. This will rely more on its serious tannins than on its acids for longevity-and it will require at least 10 to 12 years of cellaring. |

Jancis Robinson (18.5)In the middle of the vineyard. Terres rouges and terres blanches. Small parcel so assembled from the start. Barrel sample. Seductive aroma but in a much richer style than the Clos de la Maréchale. Smells deep and seductive. A perfume I would love to be enveloped in. Sour red cherry and a touch of orange as well as floral. Complex and expressive. Beauty of fruit purity on the palate, like biting into a perfect red cherry, crunchy but sweet and tangy. The tannins are spicy and refined. A complete wine with succulence, fine-boned structure and intensity though not apparently dense. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2020 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a tightly-wound bouquet with blackberry and raspberry fruit, hints of wet limestone, quite strict and a little timid. The palate is framed by gritty tannins, quite saline and robust, though for me, this lacks the flow and harmony of the Fuées. I would like to see this after four or five years. |

Vinous (88-90)The 2021 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a satisfying bouquet with beautifully defined red fruit, potpourri, orange zest and crushed limestone. The palate leaves a few questions to be answered however. It is light-bodied, a little skeletal, which is something you never expect from this habitually opulent Grand Cru. This slightly tapers towards its strict finish, as if the wine had been rationed by the 2021 growing season, dropping away rather rapidly. I must be parsimonious with my score because it is lapped by Mugnier's Premier Crus. |
