Wine Advocate (92+)Tasted from bottle, the 2016 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Porêts-Saint-Georges is one of Faiveley's most brooding and reserved wines this year, unfurling in the glass with notes of earthy black cherries, cassis, dark chocolate, grilled game bird and rich spices. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a tight-knit core, an abundance of fine but firm structuring tannins and a long, sapid finish. If opened today, this Nuits is better on day two or three, and while it's excellent, it will demand more patience than pretty much any other cuvée in the range. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (90-92)Good bright, deep red. Blackberry, minerals and crushed stone on the nose. Densely packed and concentrated, with savory dark berry, floral and licorice flavors leading to a youthfully powerful if rather strict finish. Classic sturdy Nuits-Saint-Georges but with lovely energy and finesse to its fruit. The big tannins spread out on the back end, yet the wine maintains a light touch. |

Vinous (92-95)Bright dark red. The most reduced of these 2016s on the nose today, offering scents of cherry, plum, licorice and mocha. Densely packed, fine-grained and sweet, showing terrific juicy cut and vinosity to its primary dark fruit, chocolate and violet flavors. Finishes with serious but essentially smooth tannins and rising purple fruits that saturate the mouth and leave the taste buds glistening. At once more refined and more powerful than the Vaucrains, this wine is built for a graceful evolution in bottle. |

Wine Advocate (93)Aromas of cassis, dark plums, baking chocolate and rosehip introduce the 2016 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale, a full-bodied, rich and layered wine with a broad-shouldered chassis of fine, stony tannins that are entirely enveloped in fleshy, gourmand fruit. This vintage is atypically rich and concentrated, so it's hard to predict if and when it will shut down. |

Wine Advocate (95)The 2011 Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots is slightly deeper in color compared to the Aux Vignerondes while the bouquet is very different, more marine-influenced, slightly estuarine. The palate is medium-bodied with a heavenly satin-like entry. The acidity is perfectly pitched, this Nuits building in the mouth toward a complete, harmonious, almost Romanee-Saint-Vivant like finish that caresses the mouth and exudes wonderful mineralite. This transcends the vintage. |

Vinous (93-95)Bright medium red. Discreet, pristine scents of dark cherry, flowers and crushed rock. Wonderfully rich and fine-grained, offering outstanding inner-mouth tension to its medicinal red cherry and licorice flavors complicated by minerals, spices and flowers. Less accessible today than the Cailles (Chevillon noted that in November it was the other way around) but this wine really dances on the palate and rises inexorably on the sappy, mouthcoating finish. |

Vinous (92+)The 2016 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru evinces a more modern style on the nose with pure and opulent black cherries, fig and sloes. It comes across as a bit of a crowd pleaser but it is undeniably attractive. The palate is well balanced with supple tannin and well judged acidity. There is plenty of extraction here and a carapace of quality new oak, but it seems to work well. It should become a noble Nuits Saint-Georges with a few years in bottle. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. (DIAM 30 closure) |
