This is very complete and absolutely marvellous. It has unquestionably held on to its balance. Thanks to what Emmanuel Rouget calls a salivating acidity. |

It has more class than the 2002 Latricières-Chambertin--pure wild strawberry and black truffle on the nose that gathers momentum with each ticking hand of the clock as if to say: You want more? Of course you do. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin. There is great depth here as one expects from a Richebourg, not a powerful grand cru because this vintage was all about the nuance and delicacy, but it fans out wondrously on the finish with crushed strawberry and hints of cured meats. Very long, very elegant, very Leroy. This is an absolute treat. Tasted January 2016. |

Decanter (94)The Beaumonts from Hudelot-Noellat has ripened well despite the vintage and the location, showing a lovely plummy fruit with rose petal notes on the nose and a supple texture with silky tannins that are firm but not astringent and impressive length. The parcel that Charles van Canneyt farms is 0.30 hectares at the top of the slope in very thin soils, but he has worked wonders this year. |

Burghound (96)A gorgeously spiced and perfumed nose is intensely floral in character while offering up notes of both red and dark currant, sandalwood, exotic Asian-style tea and discreet dried rose petal nuances. The muscular yet refined big-bodied flavors exude ample minerality onto the powerful, focused and once again compact, focused and explosively long finish. This too is indisputably built-to-age and I wouldn't be surprised if it required fully 20 years before it is fully ready. In sum this Richebourg is one of the finest wines of the 2014 vintage. |

The supremely well-balanced palate offers filigreed tannin, wonderful mineralité and an otherworldly-long finish. One of the most elegant Richebourgs that I have tasted. Best Richebourg in show this year? Quite possibly. Six barrels produced. |

Vinous (97)The 2018 Richebourg Grand Cru has a plush nose with layers of red fruit, and a veneer of seriously high-quality oak perfectly in proportion to fruit intensity. Lavish and precocious in keeping with the growing season. The palate is medium-bodied with a core of sweet sappy red fruit, lightly spiced with candied orange peel and marmalade scents, surprisingly peppery and vibrant on its persistent peacock’s tail of a finish. Pretty awesome overall. This Richebourg unquestionably needs time. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru has a southern orientation, but Mathilde Grivot was surprised that it only reached 13.0° alcohol; this was due, she believes, to the rain before the harvest. It takes a little time to cohere in the glass. After a couple of minutes, it offers lovely red and black fruit intermingling with black truffle and damp earthy/woodland aromas, delicate and refined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, precise and focused. Not a Aux Brûlées of substance and density, but rather one of precision and focus. Excellent. |

Wine Advocate (94+)The 2009 Vosne-Romanee Les Beaux Monts is fabulous. Waves of fruit jump from the glass. The Beaux-Monts impresses for its textural depth and richness. There is an intense minerality to the fruit that gives the wine much of its power. The Beaux-Monts is firing on all cylinders today. A crescendo of fruit saturates the palate on the finish. This is another headspinning 2009 from Grivot. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029. |

Vinous (94+)Bright ruby-red. Slightly blacker, less exotic nose dominated by dark berries, licorice and minerals. Less lush and more reserved today than the RSV but penetrating, vibrant and gripping. Really folded in on itself and hiding more than it's revealing; less obviously sweet than the RSV. But the long, minerally, very fine finish suggests that this wine will reward a decade or so of bottle aging. |

Wine Advocate (97)The 2002 Richebourg Grand Cru must surely be Lalou Bize-Leroy's finest wine of the vintage. It has more class than the 2002 Latricières-Chambertin--pure wild strawberry and black truffle on the nose that gathers momentum with each ticking hand of the clock as if to say: You want more? Of course you do. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin. There is great depth here as one expects from a Richebourg, not a powerful grand cru because this vintage was all about the nuance and delicacy, but it fans out wondrously on the finish with crushed strawberry and hints of cured meats. Very long, very elegant, very Leroy. This is an absolute treat. Tasted January 2016. |

Vinous (94)The 2000 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaumonts 1er Cru from Leroy offers crisp red fruit, bay leaf and clove on a rip-roaring nose that pays little heed to the reputation of this “tricky” Burgundy vintage. It just harnesses the horsepower that this Premier Cru can gift a wine and runs with it. The palate is more measured: very well balanced and quite succulent in style, with wonderful definition and a fresh, slightly brine-tinged finish that has an unerring crystalline quality to it. Quite brilliant considering the vintage. Tasted at Carré des Feuillants restaurant in Paris. |

Vinous (91+)Deep ruby-red. Slightly reduced, reserved nose hints at superripe dark fruits and roasted nuts. Extremely ripe but a bit youthfully stunted, with slightly roasted, chocolatey flavor. Solid and chewy, but not revealing its personality today. Finishes with substantial tannins. Today I don't find a lot of verve. |

In a region with some of the world’s most expensive and sought after Pinot Noir, the appellation of Vosne-Romanee is at the very top of this list, consistently outshining even its most impressive neighbours. Much has been waxed poetic about these wines, which are praised for their intensity, power, finesse, richness, and overall elegance. There are eight Grand Cru vineyards here including Richebourg, Romanee-Saint-Vivant, Echezeaux, Grands Echezeaux, as well as the monopoles La Grande Rue (Domaine Lamarche), La Romanee (Comte Liger-Belair), and Romanee-Conti and La Tache (both monopoles of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti.)
