Wine Advocate (88)Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Suchots 2011 is more reserved on the nose than their Chaumées, but there is a touch more complexity, the brambly red and black fruit infused with fine minerality and tension. The palate is smooth and rounded on the entry with a lot of extraction so that it feels plump around the middle. Juicy and pure, what it lacks in complexity is compensated by its saturated tannins and opulent blueberry-tinged finish that is just missing some persistence, cutting away before you have had an opportunity to show your gratitude. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2019 Vosne-Romanée La Croix Rameau 1er Cru has quite a different bouquet than Lamarche’s other crus, offering deep red currant and cranberry fruit, and more savory, with light garrigue-like aromas. The well-balanced palate shows good grip on the entry. Very well balanced, with tart red fruit laced with crushed limestone toward the finish. Not the most powerful Premier Cru you will find in Vosne, yet very stylish. |

Vinous (90-92)The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Village comes from the four different parcels as usual. Matured in 25% new oak, it has a tightly wound bouquet with redcurrant and cranberry fruit, touches of violet unfolding with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a velvety texture, sensual and refined, extremely pure with not a hair out of place on the finish. Gorgeous. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (92-94)The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts is completely de-stemmed and raised in 100% new oak. Now this has a great bouquet: very well defined with intense black cherry and kirsch aromas, deftly controlled and focused. The medium-bodied palate displays dense tannin, and the new oak is quite vocal at the moment but should be subsumed with bottle age. Do I think less new oak would have been preferable? Yes. But I still think this should mature into a fine Les Beaux Monts. |

Wine Advocate (91-93)Matured in 50% new oak, the 2014 Vosne Romanée 1er Cru les Chaumes has a surfeit of energy and tension on the nose that is very precise and defined. There is lovely focus here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, very well judged acidity and a svelte, strawberry and raspberry confit finish that lingers nicely. This is struck through with sophistication and class...a case of less equals more. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has a tightly wound, slightly earthy bouquet with scents of kirsch, blueberry and violet, quite showy but kept on a tight leash. The medium-bodied palate offers supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity, gentle grip and quite a dense, minerally finish that lingers in the mouth. There is a discreet confit element here. Good potential, because you can feel the energy. |

Vinous (89-91)Good deep red. Liqueur-like raspberry, black cherry, mocha and cocoa on the very ripe nose. Powerful but a bit rustic following the Nuits Boudots, with a dominant flavor of black cherry cough syrup. I find this harder to taste today. Plenty ripe, but the oak-driven tannins currently overshadow the wine's finishing fruit. |

Vinous (89)The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Vigneux offers plenty of black cherries, boysenberry and floral scents on the nose, open and expressive. The palate is medium-bodied with plenty of sweet fruit, fine tannins and density, quite sapid with a bit of muscle on the finish that will stand it in good stead for mid-term ageing. |

Wine Advocate (93-95)The 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Beaux Monts has great clarity on the nose, here veering more toward red fruit than the les Brulées, with subtle wet limestone and granitic scents emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied, very “gourmand” in the mouth, the kind of wine you don’t know whether to drink or eat (not in terms of texture but the flavors). There is a lovely meaty note that surfaces on the long finish. Tres bon vin! |

Wine Advocate (92-94)Alluring scents of ripe purple plum, black currant, clove, and star anise mark Jadot’s 2005 Vosne-Romanee Beaux Monts. Smoked and roasted meat flavors ally themselves to dark fruits and exotic spices on the palate, with subtle hints of caramel and vanilla from the oak accenting rather than intruding. This displays a warmer, more obviously rich and opulent character than many young 2005 Vosnes and than nearly any other 2005s from Jadot. Deep, fat folds of fruit persist with spices and low-toned roasted meat into an imposingly long, sumptuous finish. One could enjoy this soon if it does not close up, but it certainly has the concentration and potential to reward at least five years’ patience. |

Wine Advocate (89)Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. There is a little reduction to bypass on the nose, although underneath this Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Clos des Réas appears to be some attractive cranberry and blackberry/briar scents, with fine tension and nicely integrated oak. The palate is crisp, lithe and silky in the mouth, commencing in harmonious fashion, but becoming a tad hard toward the finish. I am certain that bottle age will tenderize this Vosne-Romanée, but it seems sulky at the moment. I remain optimistic that it will repay 5-6 years in the cellar. |

Wine Advocate (90-91)The Cathiard 2005 Vosne-Romanee Aux Reignots displays black cherry, clove, cinnamon and cumin aromatics, fine continuation of spice and luscious black cherry and cassis fruit with a flattering, supple feel, though it’s overall just a bit too marked by obvious wood for its own good, and slightly less texturally-refined than Cathiard’s Chambolle. His vines in Reignots are only approaching twenty years of age. Interestingly, I recently revisited the last vintage from old vines, 1987, and that wine was still attractive, if a bit attenuated. Also recommended: 2005 Bourgogne ($39.00;85). |
