Vinous (96-98)
The 2019 Richebourg Grand Cru is much more backward on the nose compared to the outgoing Romanée-Saint-Vivant, offering dark berry fruit, cold wet limestone, briar and hints of iris flower, but showing fabulous delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with filigreed tannins framing extraordinary pure black fruit suffused with even more mineralité than the aforementioned RSV. It fans out wonderfully on the finish and asserts its authority over the rest of Hudelot-Noëllat’s portfolio. Brilliant.Inc. VAT£6,255.62 -
Wine Advocate (97)
I knew that the 2014 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru would be great when I tasted it from barrel last year...but not this great. It has a wonderful, tensile bouquet that just seems to sparkle. The fruit is so crystalline and laden with energy and mineralité that you almost have to sit down! The palate is surfeit with energy, the fruit perhaps a little darker than in barrel with white pepper, spices towards the almost Richebourg-like finish. Tasting them side-by-side, I would err for this over the Richebourg - it is a magnificent wine from Charles van Canneyt.Inc. VAT£2,937.62 -
Decanter (97)
This 1920 parcel is situated in the northern part of the Romanée-St-Vivant grand cru, very close to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti's holdings - and it's often a match for that wine. It's detailed, lacy and refreshing, with adroitly integrated 50% new wood and layers of red cherry, raspberry and red plum fruit. It has focussed acidity and palate-caressing tannins. Effortlessly complex.Inc. VAT£3,039.62 -
Vinous (94-96)
The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru has a fragrant bouquet, for this writer, demonstrating a little more precision and mineralité compared to the Les Beaumonts. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, more saline than the Les Beaumonts with a very persistent finish. Superb.Inc. VAT£1,209.61 -
Indulge in the exquisite expression of Jacques Cacheux Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru La Croix Rameau 2019, a product of divine viticulture from Vosne-Romanee, the revered heartland of Pinot Noir. This boutique producer, led by Jacques Cacheux and his son Patrice, harmonises traditional and modern winemaking techniques to create wines reflective of their distinguished terroir. A luscious collision of deep red and black fruits, it is balanced by a soft, velvety texture and enriched by a firm structure and delicate spice. Western exposure and aged vines contribute towards the wine's concentration and depth. As a testament to the Cacheux family's dedication, their meticulous handling results in a low yield but exceedingly high quality. Allow the Jacques Cacheux Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru La Croix Rameau 2019 to add a touch of sophistication to your selection, an epitome of Burgundy Pinot Noir.
Inc. VAT£648.74 -
The Jacques Cacheux Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru La Croix Rameau 2020 is an exquisite embodiment of haute French viticulture at its finest. Crafted in the revered Burgundy region, this red wine hails from one of the smallest and most lauded plots of Premier Cru vineyard in Vosne-Romanee. Jacques Cacheux, a fourth-generation winemaker, is known for his minimalist, eco-conscious approach to winemaking and this 2020 vintage is no exception. The grapes, hand-picked at optimal ripeness, are then gently vinified in oak barrels, according each bottle a generous structure, round tannins, and deeply rooted complexity that marries perfectly with its lavish bouquet. Revel in its mesmerising medley of ripe cherries, aromatic spices and subtle undertones of velvety dark chocolate. Ideally paired with braised meats or lavish cheese platters, the Jacques Cacheux Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru La Croix Rameau 2020 truly stands as a shining torchbearer of its terroir.

The 2017 Richebourg Grand Cru has a showstopping, persistent bouquet of intense blackberry, sous-bois and crushed stone. The supremely well-balanced palate offers filigreed tannin, wonderful mineralité and an otherworldly-long finish. One of the most elegant Richebourgs that I have tasted. Best Richebourg in show this year? Quite possibly. Six barrels produced.Inc. VAT£4,612.82 -
Vinous (93-95)
The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru has an exquisitely-delineated bouquet with black plum and raspberry fruit that unfold with each swirl of the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly flinty opening, compact, quite peppery with a deepening and rather grippy finish. There is something sultry about this Aux Brûlées, a Premier Cru that will repay 4-5 years in the cellar.Inc. VAT£875.54 -
Decanter (95)
Always one of Etienne and Mathilde Grivot's stand-out Premier Cru reds, this is not the most immediate of their cuvées at a young age, often displaying some grip and tannic backbone as well as a hint of meaty reduction, but the fruit concentration and depth is remarkable here, supported by chalky minerality and scented 30% new wood. Wonderfully patrician and well-structured.Inc. VAT£813.62 -
Vinous (93-95)
The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru perhaps has the most mineral-driven bouquet of Grivot’s Premier Crus: graphite-infused red fruit, touches of forest floor, very precise and detailed. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-sculpted tannins. There is unerring symmetry here and whilst it may miss a bit of substance on the finish, this may well be addressed by the time it finishes its élevage. Superb.Inc. VAT£1,102.34 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)
Clear bright ruby purple. The nose flickers in and out, and while there is a fine tensile line of red berry fruit, this is not too demonstrative. Perhaps some of the refined detail of an Echezeaux. A slight sucrosity of strawberry fruit, and very persistent. Very good and extremely typical of Suchots this year. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: November 2023.Inc. VAT£1,001.54 -
Exquisite and elegant, the Jean-Marc Millot Vosne-Romanee 2020 is an epitome of impeccable Burgundian craftsmanship. Nurtured in the famed vineyards of Vosne-Romanee, in the heart of France's illustrious wine region, Burgundy, this wine radiates authenticity and refinement. Jean-Marc Millot, the adept winemaker, delicately manages his family holdings, crafting wines that truly reflect their terroir. The 2020 vintage exudes enchanting aromas of ripe red fruits, supplemented by the undercurrent of sweet spices, while presenting matchless intensity and complexity. Maturing in French oak barrels, it portrays subtle tannic structure and a long, harmonious finish. Like its predecessors, the Jean-Marc Millot Vosne-Romanee 2020 stands as a testament to the producer's exceptional touch, implementing biodynamic practices and minimal intervention techniques. Truly an irresistible choice for the discerning palate, this wine harmoniously blends heritage, mastery, and terroir, encapsulating the essence of the fine Burgundy tradition.

Vinous (89-91)
The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Petits Monts 1er Cru comes from a parcel that lies just above Richebourg and receives 50% whole bunch. Now this is one cru that comes across a little trop on the nose, displaying a soupçon of volatility. The palate is sweet on the entry with dark cherries, loganberry and sea salt notes. Lush and powerful, though missing a bit of finesse and precision on the finish.Inc. VAT£1,210.82 -
Vinous (94+)
Bright ruby-red. Slightly blacker, less exotic nose dominated by dark berries, licorice and minerals. Less lush and more reserved today than the RSV but penetrating, vibrant and gripping. Really folded in on itself and hiding more than it's revealing; less obviously sweet than the RSV. But the long, minerally, very fine finish suggests that this wine will reward a decade or so of bottle aging.Inc. VAT£36,188.42 -
Vinous (94+)
Good deep medium red. Locked up tight on the nose. Tight on entry, then juicy, compressed and extremely young in the middle palate, with a powerful minerality and firm acidity combining to keep the wine's sharply delineated fruit and mineral flavors under wraps. This classic Richebourg is most impressive today on its slowly mounting, very long and gripping back end. (Incidentally, in my early look at the Leroy 2008s, I preferred the Richebourg to the Romanee-Saint-Vivant, but not in 2007.)Inc. VAT£30,267.62 -

The 2011 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts had a slight reduction on the nose that soon blows away. The fruit is darker and broodier here than Aux Brulees with mulberry, raspberry, wild hedgerow and a touch of black olive compote. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, structured tannins lending this Vosne a firm backbone. It is beautifully balanced and extremely pure, not a hair out of place toward the delineated, feminine finish. This should age beautifully – the laser-like focus absolutely riveting.Inc. VAT£17,674.82 -
Wine Advocate (93-95)
The 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Beaux Monts has great clarity on the nose, here veering more toward red fruit than the les Brulées, with subtle wet limestone and granitic scents emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied, very “gourmand” in the mouth, the kind of wine you don’t know whether to drink or eat (not in terms of texture but the flavors). There is a lovely meaty note that surfaces on the long finish. Tres bon vin!Inc. VAT£16,767.62 -
Wine Advocate (96+)
The 2015 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts from Domaine Leroy is predictably superb, soaring from the glass with a deep bouquet of black fruits, hoisin, smoked duck and rich spice. On the palate, the wine is extraordinarily concentrated, full-bodied and ample, with grand cru depth and dimension, a fine-grained chassis of tannin and a long, saline finish. Compared to the lavish—even decadent—Aux Brûlées, Les Beaux Monts is more reserved, its stony structure asserting itself more prominently, its mid-palate more taut and less expansive: it will need more time in the cellar.Inc. Medium red. Smoky redcurrant, red cherry and sexy earth tones on the nose. Smooth and suave in the mouth, with ripe acids framing the red fruit and floral flavors. Bright, dark red. Wonderfully complex nose offers raspberry, minerals, violet, mocha, smoke and sexy oak spices. Like liquid silk on entry, then strongly mineral in the middle, with obvious acidity that will require time to knit with the wine's fruit. Today the Brulees is sweeter. But this youthfully imploded, tannic 2008 should be great.Inc. VAT£19,456.82 -
Vinous (92-95)
Good bright red. Very locked up on the nose, hinting at red cherry, black raspberry, stone and spicy oak. Dense but very tight, showing little today in the way of fruit. Most impressive on the explosive, rising, classically dry finish, which displays pungent minerality. Meo noted that this wine was open and charming ten days ago; now it's more typical.Inc. Vinous (94-97)
Saturated ruby-red. Aromatic and very pure but restrained on the nose, offering high-pitched aromas of dark raspberry, black cherry, flowers, spices and minerals. Impressively concentrated and dense yet light on its feet, with its very intense flavors of dark fruits, spices and flowers enlivened by saline tension. Almost painful in the middle palate in the early going, this wine finishes with firm but suave tannins and outstanding lingering perfume. Méo did not add SO2 in the fermenter because this wine often has reduction issues. With its fruit of steel, this beauty should enjoy a long life in bottle.Inc. VAT£2,494.82 -

Beautiful blueberry and purple fruits scented with violets and vanilla pop from the glass. The creamy, almost lusty, palate texture is held up by crackling acidity more than the soft, cuddly tannins.
