  • Arnoux-Lachaux Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Aux Reignots 2019 (1x75cl)

    Vinous (97)

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Aux Reignots 1er Cru comes from an expanded parcel, the "extension" only planted (at 16,000 vines per hectare) in 2015 after being fallow for over a century. The total area is 0.1854-hectares. It has a brilliantly defined bouquet with vivid red fruit, crushed limestone and crushed rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant, lithe tannins, a mixture of red and black fruit. Slightly granular in texture, hints of hoisin toward the finish with a long saline aftertaste. This squares up to the RSV and questions its superiority...it's that good.

  • Arnoux-Lachaux Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Chaumes 2019 (3x75cl)

    Vinous (93+)

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has slightly deeper fruit than the Les Hautes Maizières, bilberry and raspberry, autumn leaves, a touch of white pepper. This gains intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple opening, a little more lactic in texture with veins of dark chocolate infusing the red fruit, cohesive towards the finish with good grip on the finish. This will need time, a little broad-shouldered, almost Morey-like in a way.

The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, a fine bead of acidity, quite sweet with crunchy red fruit towards the finish. Palpable energy here, this is well worth seeking out.

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Hautes Maizières has an exquisitely defined bouquet with transparent red cherries and crushed strawberry on the nose, very harmonious with light sous-bois aromas percolating through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine backbone, almost a Malconsorts-lite (not written pejoratively I might add!) But there is impressive grip here for a Village Cru with pleasing salinity on the finish. Give it just another 24 months in bottle.

This is very distinctive from other Richebourgs that I have tasted. The palate displays exquisite balance and astonishing focus. 100% new wood. Intense purple without the black. The nose is all in the fruit, not quite so intense. The wood adds a gloss without detracting, this is all about the fruit which has a mind boggling intensity and can carry the degree easily, stretches out much further behind. Better acidity too. This is very complete and absolutely marvellous. It has unquestionably held on to its balance. Thanks to what Emmanuel Rouget calls a salivating acidity.

A bottle of 'David Duband Vosne Romanee 2019' is no less than experiencing the enchantment of Burgundy encapsulated in a glass.

  • Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Richebourg Grand Cru 2019 (1x75cl)

    Vinous (96-98)

The 2019 Richebourg Grand Cru, the first cuvées to be picked on September 15–16 at 21h/ha, has a very intense marine-influenced bouquet, Japanese nori and shucked oyster shells permeating the black fruit. This is very distinctive from other Richebourgs that I have tasted. The palate displays exquisite balance and astonishing focus. One of the most saline Richebourg wines that I have tasted from the domaine out of barrel, this exerts a gentle grip in the mouth and culminates in a sapid finish that rivets your feet to the ground. Profound.

  • Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Cuvee Duvault Blochet 2019 (1x75cl)

    Vinous (92)

The Vosne-Romanée Cuvée Duvault-Blochet is a wine the domaine has quietly made for some time. In the past, it was mostly allocated to restaurants in France, but that has started to change. Seductive and beautifully perfumed, the 2019 1er Cru is a fabulous introduction to the Vosne-Romanée wines that form the core of this tasting. Soaring aromatics and silky contours give the 2019 its distinct air of sensuality. Dark-fleshed fruit, lavender and menthol are some of the notes that grace the exquisite 2019. The 1er Cru is a blend of mostly young vines from Romanée St. Vivant and La Tâche, picked early and co-fermented.

  • Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Petits Monts 2019 (1x75cl)
  • Dujac Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts 2019 (3x75cl)

    Vinous (95-97)

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Aux Malconsorts 1er Cru has a more savory bouquet than the Les Beaux Monts, the whole bunch less integrated by direct comparison and yet it also delivers more terroir expression and mineralité. Touches of cracked black pepper and sage lend complexity to the dark berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, very harmonious with white pepper and clove, a lovely grainy texture and perhaps more refinement compared to the Echézeaux. The kind of Vosne-Romanée that you want to elope with.

  • Dujac Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Beaux Monts 2019 (3x75cl)

    Vinous (94-96)

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru has a perfumed and enticing bouquet with brambly black fruit, black truffle and Earl Grey aromas gently wafting from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins. The whole bunch influence is discrete here but lends an attractive white pepper and clove note towards the finish that fans out wonderful whilst maintaining freshness and tension. Just outflanked by the Aux Malconsorts, nevertheless, this is a brilliant Les Beaux Monts.

  • Emmanuel Rouget Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Cros Parantoux 2019 (1x75cl)

    Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (95-98)

100% new wood. Intense purple without the black. The nose is all in the fruit, not quite so intense. The wood adds a gloss without detracting, this is all about the fruit which has a mind boggling intensity and can carry the degree easily, stretches out much further behind. Better acidity too. This is very complete and absolutely marvellous. It has unquestionably held on to its balance. Thanks to what Emmanuel Rouget calls a salivating acidity.

  • Francois Lamarche Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru La Croix Rameau 2019 (12x75cl)

    Vinous (91-93)

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée La Croix Rameau 1er Cru has quite a different bouquet than Lamarche’s other crus, offering deep red currant and cranberry fruit, and more savory, with light garrigue-like aromas. The well-balanced palate shows good grip on the entry. Very well balanced, with tart red fruit laced with crushed limestone toward the finish. Not the most powerful Premier Cru you will find in Vosne, yet very stylish.

  • Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Vosne-Romanee 2019 (1x75cl)

    Vinous (86-88)

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Village comes from all the domaine’s parcels except for La Colombière. This has a fragrant bouquet of rose-petal-tinged dark berry fruit; the 40% new oak is nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. A little pinched at the moment, but it will flesh out with aeration. Fine.

In a region with some of the world’s most expensive and sought after Pinot Noir, the appellation of Vosne-Romanee is at the very top of this list, consistently outshining even its most impressive neighbours. Much has been waxed poetic about these wines, which are praised for their intensity, power, finesse, richness, and overall elegance. There are eight Grand Cru vineyards here including Richebourg, Romanee-Saint-Vivant, Echezeaux, Grands Echezeaux, as well as the monopoles La Grande Rue (Domaine Lamarche), La Romanee (Comte Liger-Belair), and Romanee-Conti and La Tache (both monopoles of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti.)
