Vinous (93-95)
The 2017 Clos de Vougeot le Grand Maupertui Grand Cru may well be the domaine’s best wine this vintage. It is endowed with more fruit intensity and presence on the nose, offering vigorous raspberry and crushed strawberry scents, superb mineralité and hints of orange blossom developing in the glass. The well-balanced palate is medium-bodied with fine grip and impressive substance and tension toward the finish. An excellent Clos de Vougeot from Anne and Julie Gros.Inc. VAT£1,586.44 -
Vinous (86-88)
The 2019 Vougeot Clos de Village has a light, slightly green bouquet, although there are no stems here. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly coarse tannins on the entry, but it coheres toward the finish. A lightweight Vougeot considering the vintage. Just three barrels produced.Inc. VAT£311.09 -

Vinous (92-95)
The 2015 Clos de Vougeot is an impressive wine. Huge tannins give the 2015 much of its shape and sense of direction. Plum, crème de cassis, chocolate and lavender all develop in the glass. Ample and powerful in construction, the 2015 possesses very good depth, even if it can't match the pedigree of the Chambertin. This is another wine with a late malo. I hope to have a chance to taste it again from bottle. - Antonio GalloniInc. VAT£905.09 -
Burghound (95)
Here the nose is similar to the regular cuvée from a compositional standpoint but the fruit is denser, slightly riper and more complex as well. The very concentrated broad-shouldered flavors possess excellent concentration as the copious dry extract both coats the palate and buffers the extremely firm tannic spine on the explosively long but impeccably well-balanced finish. This is distinctly old school in style and will require extended cellaring to arrive at its peak. I would not recommend buying this ultra-serious effort unless you have the express intention of cellaring it over the longer-term.Inc. VAT£1,332.04 -
Wine Advocate (90)
Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a dense, earthy bouquet that feels broodier than its peers at the moment, although there seems to be good fruit in situ. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, more foursquare and conservative than others this year, though with decent depth and an understated, quite elegant earthy finish. Not quite matching its performance from barrel, nevertheless, a respectable Clos de Vougeot to enjoy over the next 10 years. Tasted September 2016.Inc. VAT£1,051.24 -
Vinous (93)
The 2016 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a very pretty and pure bouquet, the oak here deftly integrated and allowing the dark cherries, cranberry and raspberry scents to flourish. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins framing the pure confit-like red fruit, just a splash of balsamic towards the finish lending another welcome dimension. I suspect that this will mature with style and panache. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.Inc. VAT£823.24 -
Vinous (89-91)
The 2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, matured in 50% new oak, feels rather muted on the nose at the moment, surpassed by the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and good density, but at the moment it just feels a little voiceless and needs more personality to develop during the remainder of its barrel maturation. Maybe the weak link in their portfolio this year?Inc. VAT£1,232.44 -
Wine Advocate (93-95)
The 2016 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is one-third whole cluster, less than in recent years according to winemaker Brian Sieve, with almost 50% new oak. It has a beautiful bouquet with scents of blackberry, raspberry coulis, crushed strawberries and seams of wet limestone underneath. The oak is seamlessly integrated here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very focused and taut with pure black cherry and crushed strawberry on the tensile finish. This is a very stylish, quite ambitious Clos de Vougeot. Excellent.Inc. VAT£2,521.27 -
Domaine Drouhin-Laroze has some of the best sites in the Cote d’Or. The Clos de Vougeot 2011 has an exciting intensity throughout that engulfs the palate and exudes power on the long crafted finish. Plenty of wood and warm earth gives great balance to the very fresh red fruit.Inc. VAT£619.24

Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru from Domaine Drouhin-Laroze has a composed bouquet of blackcurrant and raspberry fruit, a touch of cigar ash and woodland aromas developing close behind. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannin, low acidity, rather extracted and perhaps, just a little monotone on the finish. Maybe it will develop more personality in bottle...it should do.Inc. VAT£904.84 -
Wine Advocate (93-95)
The 2015 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru, which comes from the upper slopes of the vineyard, has a rich and opulent bouquet with precocious mulberry and blueberry scents, violet and desiccated orange peel. The 30% whole bunches is discretely embedded in the black fruit, lending crunchiness to the texture. This displays impressive depth; notwithstanding infectious energy and a vibrant finish. Excellent - this is one of the best grand crus from Drouhin-Laroze this vintage.Inc. VAT£915.64 -
Vinous (92-94)
The 2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is completely de-stemmed and matures in 80% new oak. It has an expressive and aromatic bouquet with pretty blueberry, raspberry and iodine aromas that burst from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very effervescent from the start with vivid red and black fruit infused with orange zest and light fig notes. Very fine.Inc. VAT£852.04 -
Wine Spectator (92)
Rich and generous, with vanilla and milk chocolate accenting black cherry, plum and mineral flavors. A powerful red, this is balanced and long, with a sweet, spicy aftertaste. Best from 2011 through 2024. 35 cases imported. -BSInc. VAT£2,211.64 -
Vinous (94+)
Good medium red. Subtle, pure, high-pitched aromas of black cherry, blackberry, violet and licorice. Chewy, intense and penetrating, with plenty of stem-driven energy behind the saline, soil-driven flavors of minerals, dark berries and graphite. There's no easy sweetness here, but this builds impressively in the glass and leaves the taste buds quivering on the very long, lightly peppery back end. These firm tannins will need a decade of patience. Like the Grands-Echezeaux, this wine was aged in 80% to 90% new oak.Inc. VAT£1,830.04 -
Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (93-95)
(half of this wine is made with whole clusters, the other half destemmed; my note is on the blend) Good ruby-red. Rich aromas of blackberry, chocolate, espresso and flinty minerality, with pepper and menthol notes from the stem influence. Then large-scaled and creamy but with solid underlying structure and noteworthy tension in spite of having the highest pH of these 2009s. More backward and medicinal than the Grands-Echezeaux. Really builds on the back end, finishing very long and rich, with powerful tannins that will require at least several years of bottle aging. Cabernet-like in its volume and structure. Incidentally, winemaker Mallard noted that the vendange entier component gives the blend its bones, while the destemmed portion provides the flesh, but I found a sample of the former component to be wonderfully full, sweet and creamy.Inc. VAT£1,844.44 -
Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (93-95)
(25% vendange entier): Good bright red with ruby tones. Precise aromas of black cherry, licorice and herbs. Spicy and penetrating on the palate; a bit strict but offers a great combination of sweetness and minerality. At once classy and powerful, finishing with a lingering element of saline minerality and firm, noble tannins that saturate the entire mouth.Inc. VAT£1,759.24 -
Vinous (92+)
Deep red with ruby highlights. Riper and blacker but a bit monolithic on the nose and palate. Black cherry and licorice scents lead to dark raspberry and crushed stone in the mouth. Not at all herbal but in a very cool style and tightly wound. This powerful, backward, youthfully uncompromising wine is hard to taste today owing to its firm tannic spine and strong medicinal reserve. Will it ultimately surpass the more sensual Grands-Echézeaux?Inc. VAT£1,708.84 -
Wine Advocate (94-96)
The 2016 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is the standout wine for Domaine d'Eugenie this year. It was cropped at 16 hectoliters per hectare (compared to 38 hectoliters per hectare in 2017). It easily is blessed with the finest aromatics from the domaine: red and black fruit, fine mineralité with just a hint of tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black fruit, a fine bead of acidity—real personality here, with a very pure and tensile finish that lingers in the mouth. I like the way it just keeps rolling across the senses. This is extremely sophisticated and full of breeding.Inc. VAT£2,438.44 -
Vinous (91-93)
Good deep red. Wild black cherry, licorice, crushed herbs, earth and a smoky nuance on the nose. Sweet on entry, then cool and medicinal in the mid-palate, with black cherry and licorice flavors dominating. Faiveley will bottle this very backward wine considerably later than the Echézeaux, probably in June, notes Hervet. Finishes quite tight, with a serious tannic spine calling for extended cellaring.Inc. VAT£1,480.84 -
Burghound (92-95)
Earthy red berry fruit aromas trimmed in a discreet touch of wood spice are laced with earth, forest floor and violet hints. The full-bodied and tautly muscled broad-shouldered flavors possess excellent power and detail on the stunningly long, mildly rustic and youthfully austere finish. This is quite serious and clearly very structured yet it stops short of being overtly old school in style; that said, this will not be an early drinker.Inc. VAT£1,081.24 -
Vinous (92-94)
(Faiveley vinified the old vines separately but then assembled them with the rest): Bright ruby-red. Alluring floral nose combines blackberry, black raspberry, violet and licorice. A savory and rather refined young Clos Vougeot, offering subtle notes of dark berries, flowers and earth rather than this grand cru's more typical black cherry and herb qualities. Nothing rustic about this highly promising Clos Vougeot!Inc. VAT£1,266.04 -

The 2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has turned out very well indeed, wafting from the glass with a lovely bouquet of dark wild berries, smoked meats, incense, spices and dark chocolate that's framed by a lavish but nicely integrated application of high-quality new oak. On the palate, it's full-bodied, deep and velvety, with a layered and impressively concentrated core, melting tannins and a long, sapid finish. It's one of the highlights of Faiveley's red portfolio this year, punching above its weight in the usual hierarchy.Inc. VAT£1,083.64 -

Bright, moderately saturated medium red. Rather wild scents of crushed cherry stomp, flowers, medicinal herbs and minerals. Offers a lovely fine-grained texture and sweetness of fruit but still in a juicy style for all its ripeness. Very good for this cuvée but there are just three barrels of this juice from 0.34 hectare--or not much above 20 hectoliters per hectare. The 2018 Vougeot Les Petits Vougeot 1er Cru has a pretty, potpourri-tinged red and black cherry bouquet that is very Vosne-like in style. Lovely texture here, and impressive length. This needs three to five years in bottle.Inc. VAT£1,498.80 -
