Ample and powerful in construction, the 2015 possesses very good depth, even if it can't match the pedigree of the Chambertin. This is another wine with a late malo. Here the nose is similar to the regular cuvée from a compositional standpoint but the fruit is denser, slightly riper and more complex as well. The very concentrated broad-shouldered flavors possess excellent concentration as the copious dry extract both coats the palate and buffers the extremely firm tannic spine on the explosively long but impeccably well-balanced finish. This is distinctly old school in style and will require extended cellaring to arrive at its peak. Really builds on the back end, finishing very long and rich, with powerful tannins that will require at least several years of bottle aging. Cabernet-like in its volume and structure. Incidentally, winemaker Mallard noted that the vendange entier component gives the blend its bones, while the destemmed portion provides the flesh, but I found a sample of the former component to be wonderfully full, sweet and creamy.Inc. The 2020 Vougeot Les Petits Vougeot 1er Cru is well-defined on the nose, a mixture of black cherry and blueberry fruit, pressed violets and veins of blood orange. The palate already conveys a sense of energy, sorbet-fresh red fruit laced with dessicated orange peel, touches of stem ginger emerging towards the spicy finish. Very impressive length. The 2015 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is noticeably deeper in color than its peers. The bouquet is quite showy and gregarious, featuring copious black cherry, liquorish and light furniture polish scents. The new oak is too forward for my own preference. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a little drier and more conservative than I hoped, and there is a bitter residue on the aftertaste.
