The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp acidity, very good tension and a welcome dash of spice toward the finish that conveys genuine substance and class. The aftertaste is incredibly long—the mouth tingling with residual spiciness long after the wine has departed. This is stunning and, dare I suggest, equal to Rousseau's Chambertin and Clos de Bèze. It has a wonderful bouquet with expressive red fruit suffused with minerals, hints of marmalade and quince developing in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with a little more backbone and structure than the Mazoyères-Chambertin, perhaps just a little more heaviness, yet very persistent and with ample freshness. It will need a decade in bottle. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru contains 60% whole bunches. It comes from three plots that, still, only made two and a half barrels this year. It has a very well defined bouquet that seems to blossom in the glass, although it will need some time for the stems to be assimilated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very peppery in style with touches of white pepper and bay leaf towards the persistent finish. This is a classy wine, one that is not unlike Dujac’s Echézeaux! |
