Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (91-94)
Good medium red. More serious, tangy aromas of raspberry, minerals and smoke. Wonderful sweetness on the palate; really stuffed with fruit and yet less forthcoming today-perhaps more dominated by its structure- than the Clos Vougeot. Finishes long and firm, with a suggestion of medicinal cherry.Inc. VAT£3,531.60 -
Vinous (93)
Deep red. Sappy aromas of black cherry, clove and chocolate. Rich, full and deep; wonderfully sweet and silky, if not quite as primary as the Clos Vougeot. Spectacular middle-palate fruit and layered texture. Finishes with very refined, sweet tannins and great palate-staining persistence.Inc. VAT£1,043.05 -
Vinous (94+)
Medium red, a bit less saturated than the Clos Vougeot. Deeper aromas of black raspberry, blueberry, flinty smoky minerality and pepper, along with a whiff of gamey reduction. Bigger, broader and sweeter than the Clos Vougeot, and amazingly supple and plump for a grand cru from this vintage, without any loss of shape. The back end is like a booster rocket of fruits and flowers, which cover the wine's acidity and noble tannins today. I'd love to taste this next to the Clos Vougeot in ten years' time.Inc. VAT£1,287.60 -
Vinous (94+)
Full medium red. Very subdued but pure aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, licorice and wild herbs. Wonderfully rich and dense yet somehow weightless; distinctly wilder than the Clos Vougeot, showing an almost liqueur-like ripeness but also strong acidity to its hard candy flavors. I don't find the Oriental spice character this wine typically demonstrates in the early going, but there's no denying this wine's density and powerful fruit. It will need substantial cellaring to achieve its adult harmony.Inc. VAT£6,054.04 -
Wine Advocate (92-94+)
The 2017 Richebourg Grand Cru reveals a lovely bouquet of Asian spices, plums, raspberries and rose petal, with only subtle hints of the savory nuances of soil and espresso to come with bottle age. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with satiny tannins and a broad, open-knit profile. This is a precocious, dramatic Richebourg in the making, and while it will never rival the depth and concentration Gros achieved in 2016 and 2015, it will certainly turn heads in its youth.Inc. VAT£5,263.24 -
Vinous (94-96)
The 2018 Richebourg Grand Cru has a gorgeous bouquet of ebullient blackberry, raspberry and cranberry fruit entwined with crushed stone and wild hedgerow aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, firm tannins and well-integrated new oak. Fresh and lightly spiced with black pepper and savory notes toward a finish that is tremendously persistent. Bon vin!Inc. VAT£16,056.04 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (96-99)
5 Star Wine. A brilliant purple, with a fascinating touch of spice to add to the depth of dark yet royal fruit. Just keeps getting more profound on the nose. Incredibly intense through the middle, excellent mineral acidity behind, and a length well above the others. Thank you for this perfection.Inc. VAT£5,195.09 -
Vinous (86-88)
The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Barreaux felt quite closed on the nose, maybe a little disjointed compared to the other crus from Anne Gros. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and fine acidity, but it does not quite fan out or achieve a higher level toward the finish. So-so.Inc. VAT£1,498.84 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Barreaux comes from a single 0.39-hectare parcel. This has a lovely bouquet of pure dark cherry fruit, cassis and subtle violet aromas that pinpoint the commune. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and gentle grip. Silky-smooth with a persistent finish. Elegant and sensual.Inc. VAT£2,155.24 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Les Barreaux, from vines planted back in 1903, has a beautifully-defined bouquet that unfurls in the glass, black plum and cranberry, touches of sea spray coming through with time. The palate is well balanced with fresh red fruit on the entry, lightly spiced, quite cohesive with a velvety finish. Lovely.Inc. VAT£1,498.84 -
Vinous (90-92)
The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Les Barreaux offers dark berry fruit on the nose, a touch of wild thyme and hints of rosemary. The palate is smooth and caressing, fine tannins, redcurrant and wild strawberry with a dab of black pepper on the finish. One of the more successful wines from the Domaine - a treat. Four barrels produced.Inc. VAT£1,243.49 -

Vinous (89-91)
The 2021 Beaune Les Boucherottes 1er Cru was completely de-stemmed as the vines naturally produce acidity. The malo had not finished on this cuvée but there appears to be fine concentration on the nose considering the vintage. The palate is sweet, slightly candied on the entry with blood orange and tangerine infusing the red fruit. Ripe and energetic on the simple yet effective finish. Fine.Inc. VAT£527.09 -

The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Village, a blend of five plots, has a well-defined bouquet, red and black fruit intermixed with blood orange. The stems are neatly assimilate here. This exceptional wine, crafted by Anne-Francoise Gros, hails from the illustrious wine region of Côte de Nuits-Villages. With a sublime attention to detail, Gros handpicks only the finest pinot noir grapes, which are then meticulously sorted and de-stemmed to preserve their unadulterated purity. The resulting potion showcases an exquisite balance of structure and supple tannins.
Defined by a vibrant accord of red fruit underscored by subtle earthy undertones, this wine is synonymous with the renowned terroir of its origin. The Anne-Francoise Gros Cote de Nuits-Villages 2021 proffers a captivating sensory voyage, its sublime complexity and grace a testament to the time-honoured techniques of this legendary vintner. Experience a beguiling symphony of flavours and aromas that is the epitome of refined indulgence. A quintessential addition to any discerning connoisseur's collection.

Wine Advocate (89-91)
The 2015 Echézeaux Grand Cru was buttoned down when I tasted it, the 100% new oak keeping a lid on the red berry fruit behind this wall. The palate is grippy on the entry with chunky red berry fruit (cranberry, wild strawberry and pomegranate) mixed with white pepper and sage notes towards the stocky finish. Like other 2015s from the domaine, I would like more terroir expression, more personality to be expressed.Inc. VAT£3,378.07 -
Vinous (92-94)
The 2017 Echézeaux Grand Cru comes from vines over 90 years old and is matured entirely in new oak. It has a very pure, seductive bouquet of black cherry and raspberry fruit infused with pressed iris and hints of India ink. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit and gentle grip, stiffening a little toward the finish, which just needs a little more flesh to come through. Afford this five years in bottle if possible, because it shows fine balance.Inc. VAT£1,093.22 -

The 2018 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a broody bouquet with dark berry fruit laced with black tea and touches of leather. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, almost "chunky" tannins. This is not a graceful Echézeaux but there is plenty of substance with a judicious touch of spice on the finish. Fine, but give it time.Inc. VAT£2,084.44 -

The 2021 Echézeaux Grand Cru is matured with 50% whole bunches in 50% new oak. It has quite a sensual bouquet with slightly melted red fruit, thyme and crushed stone, somehow, "laid back" aromatics without leaving you feeling shortchanged. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins, nicely integrated oak with a vibrant, sorbet-fresh finish. Excellent.Inc. VAT£1,432.34 -

Vinous (91-93)
The 2021 Pommard Les Arvelets 1er Cru was blended with 50% whole bunches that are neatly assimilated into the nose. Blackberry and vivid raspberry fruit unfold, slightly confit in style. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet candied entry, red berry fruit, white pepper and clove, a little gourmand in character towards the end. This is quite a complex Pommard and it should age gracefully in bottle.Inc. VAT£778.84 -
Vinous (89-91)
The 2018 Pommard Les Chanlins 1er Cru offers brambly black fruit on the nose, a little more tertiary in style compared to Gros’s other cuvées. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannins on the entry. Good grip here, quite sappy in style even if it just misses some finesse and detail on the finish. Not bad, but I would give this 3-4 years in bottle.Inc. VAT£504.04 -
