Vinous (87-89)

The 2019 Bourgogne Rouge, which comes from the Vosne-Romanée appellation, has a well-defined bouquet of wild strawberry and raspberry aromas; there is something almost sedate about the nose. The pure, harmonious palate offers quite high-toned red and blue fruit. Sorbet-fresh toward the finish, with veins of blood orange. Very fine for its class.

This is also aromatically extremely fresh with a slightly more elegant nose of just crushed red pinot fruit and a hint of anise. The sleek, delicious and nicely detailed flavors display a beguiling underlying tension on the lingering and balanced finish that is almost delicate. Lovely and worth a look

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (87-88)

(from 45-year-old vines in Concoeur, in the hills behind Vosne-Romanée; there was no frost here in 2016 but vines in a small valley just 500 meters away were decimated, according to Tardy; 12.1% natural alcohol chaptalized to 12.8%): Healthy dark red. Ripe, sappy aromas of black cherry, black raspberry and licorice. A medium-bodied wine with sweet berry and cherry fruit flavors framed by a firm edge of acidity and complicated by a leathery nuance. Lovely vinosity here, with an acidulated red fruit character and fine, dusty tannins that suggest this wine will evolve slowly. Tardy told me that Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet and Domaine Arlaud own vines in the same windy, rocky, essentially flat site.

The 2019 Bourgogne Côte d’Or "Cuvée Etienne Camuzet" is under the domaine branch of Méo-Camuzet, though there is also a négoce cuvée under Méo-Camuzet Frère & Soeur. This is because Jean-Nicolas Méo found more finesse in a selection of their own small parcels, especially in Pommard, and elected to bottle these separately. This has a focused and delineated bouquet that, as Méo mentioned, does offer a distinct clarity of fruit. The palate is well balanced with pretty raspberry and dark cherry scents, and quite compact, especially toward the finish, but there is commendable density. Give it 12–18 months once bottled.
