The 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis Très Girard comes from purchased fruit. It has a refined bouquet with black fruit, black olive and light floral aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins on the entry. This is structured and strict, a little austere on the finish - hopefully it will gain some flesh by the time of bottling.

From purchased fruit, the 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis Très Girard has a well-defined bouquet with vibrant red berry fruit, touches of white pepper and tea leaves. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, fine acidity, slightly chalky in texture with a fresh, saline finish. Give this Morey three to four years in bottle.

Vinous (90-92)

The 2017 Morey-Saint-Denis Trilogie, which includes 25% whole bunch fruit from vines that tend to suffer millerandage, offers vivacious dark cherry and raspberry coulis scents on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a fine bead of acidity, good focus and a mineral-infused finish that delivers a pleasant sour edginess. Excellent.

Vinous (90-92)

The 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis "Trilogie" comes from three lieux-dits: Chenevery (50%), Clos Salon (15%) and Les Porroux (35%). It has a crisp, quite airy, open bouquet with vibrant black cherry and briary aromas, fine definition with a touch of graphite in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit. The one-third whole bunches is nicely integrated and lending black pepper notes on the lively finish. Recommended.

Wine Advocate (90-92)

Offering up aromas of cassis, red berries, warm spices and loamy soil, the 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis Trilogie is medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with a deep and youthfully tightly wound core of fruit that's framed by lively acids and powdery tannins. This is likely to emerge as Lignier's finest communal-level bottling this year, but it will also require the most patience.

(aged in one-third new oak): Good medium red. Slightly sauvage aromas of red plum, currant, chocolate, mocha and leather. Offers modest depth and flesh but nice cut and peppery energy to its musky red fruit flavors. This distinctly low-fat wine has well-integrated acidity and finishes with good length.

Vinous (90+)

(completely destemmed and aged in one-third new oak; bottled in March, along with the sold-out premier cru, which I did not have a chance to taste, and the Clos des Lambrays): Moderately saturated medium red. Very ripe but not roasted on the nose, with its raspberry fruit complicated by spices and sexy earth tones, plus a slightly metallic whiff of cassis bud reduction. Juicy, spicy and savory but still a bit youthfully imploded for village wine. At once less sweet and less floral than the 2016 version, but if that wine is more fun, this one is deeper. Finishes with a firm tannic spine.

(vinified with 80% whole clusters): Bright, full red. More complex and perfumed than the Charmes, with its raspberry and blueberry aromas lifted by brown spices (Lignier noted that the Charmes was more complex than this wine before the racking but is mute today). Quite tight and savory in the mouth, showing little in the way of early sweetness. Finishes firmly tannic and spicy. This premier cru will need patience.

The 2017 Morey-Saint-Denis en la Rue de Vergy has a bouquet similar to the 2018 but without the same level of ripeness. There is fine transparency here and that translates across to the palate, which is well balanced with fine-boned tannins and a precise finish.

Exotic and luxurious, the Louis Remy Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos Ormes 2020 is a quintessentially Burgundian expression of the Pinot Noir grape. Harvested from century-old vines in Morey-Saint-Denis, a highly sought-after appellation in France's Côte de Nuits region, this wine embodies the lauded artistry of its venerated producer, Louis Remy. Burghound (91-93)

A ripe yet cool nose reflects notes of black raspberry, poached plum and a lovely violet top note. There is very good volume to the caressing yet muscular medium-bodied flavors that deliver fine length and even better depth. This should be excellent in time.

Vinous (88-89)

Palish red. Soil-driven aromas of mocha, smoked meat, pepper and underbrush. Quit pliant and sweet in the mouth, but showing only moderate clarity and depth. A flavor of black cherry is joined by spices and a touch of greenness on the back end. I wanted more lift.

Vinous (90-92)

Medium red. Sweet, wild nose offers scents of red licorice, iron, herbs and flowers, plus a faintly vegetal quality that adds interest. Supple, silky and exotic in the mouth, displaying a fine-grained texture to the exuberant flavors of medicinal cherry, iron and smoke. Finishes with ripe tannins and excellent saline persistence. Very Morey.

Vinous (92-94)

The 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Millandes 1er Cru is 50% whole bunch with no new oak. It has a more powerful bouquet compared to the Clos des Ormes, although it does not exude the same mineralité or finesse. On the other hand, the palate is very well balanced and seems to have more depth and precision than the Clos des Ormes, leading to a compelling mineral-driven, saline finish that lingers for 45+ seconds. Superb.

Vinous (91-93)

The 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Millandes 1er Cru, which includes 50% whole bunch, works much better on the nose compared to the Clos des Ormes with detailed raspberry, cranberry and briary scents, the absence of new oak an assiduous decision. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine definition, fine grip with a lively, tensile finish. Very fine and it disguises the 14.6° alcohol pretty well thanks to the low pH.

Vinous (91-93)

The 2021 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Millandes 1er Cru, like the Clos des Ormes, was a little muted on the nose when tasted from barrel. It opens almost reluctantly with orange zest scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grip, more body than the Clos des Ormes with a broad-shouldered but balanced finish. Give this some time in bottle.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)

5 star. New in 2019 and a great success this year. “Our baby Clos de la Roche” they think. Dark colour but the bouquet shows how well balanced this is. Beautifully perfumed, floral even. 80% whole bunch, one new barrel in three. This is really lovely just to sniff at. Much more power behind than I expected, with really fresh lifted dark red fruit and some minerals. Long finish. A real star in this cellar. Tasted: November 2021
