The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Poisets, which was hailed 2018 and therefore pruned short to replenish its vigour in 2019, was cropped at 15hl/ha. It has a fresh, slightly earthy bouquet with dark berry fruit, Earl Grey and light cedar scents. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine acidity, quite pliant on the mouth with a hint of white pepper towards the finish with sour cherry on the aftertaste. Fine.

The 2019 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru is blessed with a bewitching bouquet with intense red fruit, crushed stone, pressed rose petals. There is a sorbet-like vitality to this Grand Cru, very well balanced with impressive depth. There is a slight savoriness that develops with time, almost Grands-Echézeaux-like in style with a very persistent finish. This is absolutely divine.

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Aux Reignots 1er Cru comes from an expanded parcel, the "extension" only planted (at 16,000 vines per hectare) in 2015 after being fallow for over a century. The total area is 0.1854-hectares. It has a brilliantly defined bouquet with vivid red fruit, crushed limestone and crushed rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant, lithe tannins, a mixture of red and black fruit. Slightly granular in texture, hints of hoisin toward the finish with a long saline aftertaste. This squares up to the RSV and questions its superiority...it's that good.

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has slightly deeper fruit than the Les Hautes Maizières, bilberry and raspberry, autumn leaves, a touch of white pepper. This gains intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple opening, a little more lactic in texture with veins of dark chocolate infusing the red fruit, cohesive towards the finish with good grip on the finish. This will need time, a little broad-shouldered, almost Morey-like in a way.

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Hautes Maizières has an exquisitely defined bouquet with transparent red cherries and crushed strawberry on the nose, very harmonious with light sous-bois aromas percolating through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine backbone, almost a Malconsorts-lite (not written pejoratively I might add!) But there is impressive grip here for a Village Cru with pleasing salinity on the finish. Give it just another 24 months in bottle.

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Petite Chapelle 1er Cru was picked on the first day of harvest, along with the Charmes-Chambertin and Mazoyères. Containing 50% whole bunch, it is very perfumed on the nose, the most floral of Dugat-Py’s Premier Crus, but thankfully the gushing violet and peony aromas do not obscure the fruit expression. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, more understated than I anticipated after the aromatics. This ends up a streamlined Petite Chapelle of wonderful delineation and salinity (though maybe the Champeaux has a little more complexity overall at this early juncture). Not so Petite!

The 2019 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru, blended with 70% whole bunch and 50% new oak, was pretty reduced on the nose when I tasted it from barrel. So, bypassing the aromatics, the palate is medium-bodied with chunky, forthright tannins. This is much more masculine than the Charmes-Chambertin, touches of melted tar and tobacco appearing toward the finish, which feels a little conservative by comparison. Hopefully it will develop more charm by the time it is bottled.

The producer, Domaine Bart, richly rooted in viticulture heritage since 1830, is lauded for its relentless pursuit of excellence. Bart Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2019 is a magnificent expression of the producer's capabilities, exuding an enchanting spectrum of nuanced flavours. The grapes embody the vineyard's unique terroir, ripened to perfection, manually harvested, and gently vinified for 15 days in wooden vats, followed by an 18-month maturation in oak barrels. One cannot ignore the intense, rich ruby colour that perfectly complements the aromatic bouquet of red fruits, woody spice, and mushrooms. The palette is an intricate balancing act between full-bodied power and silken finesse. A triumphant display of French wine craftsmanship, the Bart Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2019 showcases the zenith of Burgundy's Pinot Noir.

Vinous (86-88)

The 2019 Vougeot Clos de Village has a light, slightly green bouquet, although there are no stems here. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly coarse tannins on the entry, but it coheres toward the finish. A lightweight Vougeot considering the vintage. Just three barrels produced.

Wine Advocate (91-93)

There are two barrels of the 2020 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts, a fleshy and dramatic wine that wafts from the glass with notes of wild berries, vine smoke, plums, exotic spices and petals, framed by a deft application of classy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, ample and enveloping, with lively acids, powdery tannins and a deep core of fruit, this is very promising.

Burghound (96)

A markedly floral nose is quite pretty with its array of earth, liqueur-like dark berries and lovely spice wisps. There is again outstanding volume to the beautifully textured large-scaled flavors that exude a bracing salinity on the sneaky long and well-balanced if overtly austere finale that displays absolutely stunning length. Here too plenty of patience will be required.

Vinous (92-94)

Vinous (88-90)

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin "Cuvée Coeur de Roy," blended with 40% whole bunch, has an intense bouquet of small dark cherries mixed with raspberry and black currant pastille scents; there is fine delineation here. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly grainy tannins, well-judged acidity and a stocky and quite grippy, chalky-textured finish. Give this 18–24 months once in bottle to smooth its edges.

Vinous (92-94)

The 2019 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru, blended with 70% whole bunch and 50% new oak, was pretty reduced on the nose when I tasted it from barrel. So, bypassing the aromatics, the palate is medium-bodied with chunky, forthright tannins. This is much more masculine than the Charmes-Chambertin, touches of melted tar and tobacco appearing toward the finish, which feels a little conservative by comparison. Hopefully it will develop more charm by the time it is bottled.
