  • Prieure Roch Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Suchots 2006 (6x75cl)
  • Prince Florent Merode Corton Bressandes 2006 (6x150cl)

An exemplar of legendary Burgundy wines, the Prince Florent Merode Corton Bressandes 2006 is unparalleled in viticultural elegance. Hand-crafted from old-vine, Grand Cru plots in the Corton Bressandes climat, this exquisite vintage hails from the esteemed house of Merode, a family-owned winery with a rich heritage dating back to the 19th century. Though steeped in tradition, the estate employs a combination of ancient and modern oenological techniques, sensitively marrying hand-harvesting with low-impact mechanisation. The result is this magnificent Pinot Noir, matured in French oak barrels, exuding profound nuances of ripe red fruit, harmonised with subtle oak undertones. It's characterised by a complex aromatic profile. On the palate, it reveals firm yet fine-grained tannins and extraordinary depth, with a wonderfully persistent finish. A vintage like Prince Florent Merode Corton Bressandes 2006 is the embodiment of Burgundy's terroir, offering the discerning connoisseur a truly extraordinary drinking experience.

  • Robert Chevillon Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains 2006 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (94)

Cassis and black raspberry take on both liqueur-like richness and distillate-like high tones in the Chevillon 2006 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Vaucrains - analogous to the expression of ripeness in other wines of this collection. And here, too, the roasted sense of low-toned richness suggests chocolate and peat, while bitter notes of fruit pit and iodine add welcome contrast and further basis for fugal interchange of flavors in a long, intensely concentrated finish. On the one hand, this seems more embryonic than its fellow crus, but on the other hand its opulence and interplay of flavors are already utterly seductive and intriguing. In any case, however much of this one acquires, it would be foolish not to stretch those bottles out over a dozen or more years.

  • Robert Groffier Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2006 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (93+)

Good bright, dark red. Briary blueberry nose shows a captivating crushed-fruit urgency. Wonderfully energetic and pure in the mouth, with pristine flavors of cassis and blueberry. Extremely primary wine-and more powerful than the 2007. Finishes with firm but fine tannins and palate-saturating perfume.

  • Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses 2006 (12x75cl)

    Vinous (93)

Bright dark red. Captivating nose offers redcurrant, raspberry, iron, tobacco, minerals and coffee. Lush, silky and sweet; youthfully reticent in the mouth but already offers an ineffably complex perfume. Boasts impressively fine, late-arriving tannins for the vintage. The wine's firm acid/tannin spine gives the finish excellent bite. A beauty.

  • Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers 2006 (12x75cl)

    Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (90-93)

Deep red-ruby. Explosive, rather wild aromas of raspberry, smoke and earth. Lush, sweet and thick; voluptuous for this cuvee but with terrific sap. Really resounds on the back end, which features broad tannins and an impressively rich flavor of crushed raspberry. A superb showing.

  • Taupenot Merme Corton-Rognet Grand Cru 2006 (6x75cl)
  • Trapet Pere & Fils Chambertin Grand Cru 2006 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (92)

Moderately saturated medium red with a faint brick aspect. Musky aromas of red raspberry and mocha began a bit earthy and low-toned but gained in freshness with aeration. Silky and rather generous in the context of its vintage, conveying a strong spice character to its flavors of cherry, red berries and earth. The wine's fruit and tannins reveal a slight dry edge but this very savory Chambertin also boasts a subtle, sexy sweetness. The tannins turn a bit dusty with air, and I wonder if they will ever be fully integrated. (13.2% alcohol; 3.45 pH, 3.6 g/l acidity; 38 h/h)

Burgundy is Pinot Noir’s spiritual home, and nowhere in the world better illustrates terroir than here. Two vineyards side by side result in wines with subtle yet intricate differences in structure and aromatic profile – and often not so subtle differences in price.
