Burghound (95)This is quite ripe though not surmature, featuring a fresh array of distinctly earthy and ever so slightly rustic red and blue fruit aromas that are in perfect keeping with the robust, muscled and powerful full-bodied flavors underpinned by mouth coating tannins and superb concentration on the strikingly long finish. As impressive as this is, and it's very impressive, after the fireworks provided by the RSV and the Riche, it doesn't quite have the game to fully match up. Still, I hope to have the pleasure of trying a glass or two when it finally reaches full maturity. |

Vinous (92)Medium red. Deeply pitched aromas of black cherry, mocha, smoke and earth. Fat on entry, then very ripe, concentrated and full, but with harmonious acidity giving lift to the saline, earth and mineral flavors. The substantial dusty tannins arrive late, but this very young wine is still hiding more than it's showing. |

Vinous (96)Good bright, deep red with ruby highlights. Knockout nose combines cassis, violet, minerals and menthol; this smells important! Sweet and lush in the mouth, conveying a sense of power and force without any rough edges; in fact this is downright spherical. The wine's insidious mineral concentration and rose petal lift give it great elegance in spite of its sheer size. Wonderfully long and sweet on the back end, finishing with explosive flavors of red fruits, flowers and minerals. Wow! |

Vinous (89)Medium red. Smoky redcurrant, red cherry and sexy earth tones on the nose. Smooth and suave in the mouth, with ripe acids framing the red fruit and floral flavors. More detailed than the Nuits villages, this wine also has more middle-palate density to support its tannins. Finishes clean, firm and minerally. |

Vinous (91-95)Good deep red. Pungent aromas of blueberry, smoke, minerals and game. Lush, sexy and deep, with powerful extract and sappiness to its deep core of fruit. A metallic, iodiney quality and a saline element communicate a strong impression of the soil. This firmly structured wine coats the entire palate on the aftertaste, finishing with serious tannins and a note of coffee. Saouma noted that this grand cru was vinified with about one-third of its stems and underwent a long maceration; he planned to bottle most of it in magnums. |

Wine Advocate (93)At age 11, the 2006 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Cros Parantoux is beginning to show some evolution, offering up a complex and quite ripe nose of sweet red plum, grilled squab, candied peel and spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, deep and concentrated, structured around a bright vertical line of acidity that lends superb energy and definition. |

Vinous (90-92)(just four barrels made, from fruit picked at the end of the harvest and painstakingly sorted) Good deep red-ruby color. Elegant, vibrant aromas of raspberry, minerals, smoke and stone. Can't match the last few wines for stuffing but there's plenty of power-and tannic spine-to the fresh blackberry and mineral flavors. Finishes broad but quite tannic. It will be interesting to follow this wine into the bottle. |

An exemplar of legendary Burgundy wines, the Prince Florent Merode Corton Bressandes 2006 is unparalleled in viticultural elegance. Hand-crafted from old-vine, Grand Cru plots in the Corton Bressandes climat, this exquisite vintage hails from the esteemed house of Merode, a family-owned winery with a rich heritage dating back to the 19th century. Though steeped in tradition, the estate employs a combination of ancient and modern oenological techniques, sensitively marrying hand-harvesting with low-impact mechanisation. The result is this magnificent Pinot Noir, matured in French oak barrels, exuding profound nuances of ripe red fruit, harmonised with subtle oak undertones. It's characterised by a complex aromatic profile. On the palate, it reveals firm yet fine-grained tannins and extraordinary depth, with a wonderfully persistent finish. A vintage like Prince Florent Merode Corton Bressandes 2006 is the embodiment of Burgundy's terroir, offering the discerning connoisseur a truly extraordinary drinking experience. |

Wine Advocate (94)Cassis and black raspberry take on both liqueur-like richness and distillate-like high tones in the Chevillon 2006 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Vaucrains - analogous to the expression of ripeness in other wines of this collection. And here, too, the roasted sense of low-toned richness suggests chocolate and peat, while bitter notes of fruit pit and iodine add welcome contrast and further basis for fugal interchange of flavors in a long, intensely concentrated finish. On the one hand, this seems more embryonic than its fellow crus, but on the other hand its opulence and interplay of flavors are already utterly seductive and intriguing. In any case, however much of this one acquires, it would be foolish not to stretch those bottles out over a dozen or more years. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (90-93)Deep red-ruby. Explosive, rather wild aromas of raspberry, smoke and earth. Lush, sweet and thick; voluptuous for this cuvee but with terrific sap. Really resounds on the back end, which features broad tannins and an impressively rich flavor of crushed raspberry. A superb showing. |

Vinous (92+)Good medium red, a bit less saturated than the old-vines village wine. Very ripe, multifaceted nose offers dark raspberry, dried flowers and pungent pepper and mineral notes; an essence of Burgundy. Then vibrant and penetrating in the mouth, and a step up in class from the village wines. The bitter cherry fruit is framed and intensified by peppery, spicy lift. Mounting ripe tannins coat the molars. This really stains the palate and sides of the tongue and yet it shows a much lighter touch-and much more finishing perfume-than Esmonin's village wines. A superb showing today, with more to come. |

Vinous (92)Moderately saturated medium red with a faint brick aspect. Musky aromas of red raspberry and mocha began a bit earthy and low-toned but gained in freshness with aeration. Silky and rather generous in the context of its vintage, conveying a strong spice character to its flavors of cherry, red berries and earth. The wine's fruit and tannins reveal a slight dry edge but this very savory Chambertin also boasts a subtle, sexy sweetness. The tannins turn a bit dusty with air, and I wonder if they will ever be fully integrated. (13.2% alcohol; 3.45 pH, 3.6 g/l acidity; 38 h/h) |
