Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (97)Deep red-ruby, the darkest of the range. Superripe aromas of black cherry, tobacco, licorice, mint, minerals, violet and orange peel; even the nose conveys an impression of tightly coiled energy. The palate delivers almost confectionery sweetness but with solid underlying spine to the black fruit, violet and licorice flavors. Finishes with noble, sweet, fine-grained tannins and great perfumed, spicy, slow-building persistence. This is almost painfully backward and will need a good decade to express itself. |

Wine Advocate (97)The 2009 Chambertin is one of the wines of the vintage. It is also the least obvious of the 2009 grand crus. This isn’t an immediate wine, rather it is a Burgundy that challenges all of the senses with sublime understated personality. Time spent with the wine is immensely rewarding, as the Chambertin is constantly changing in the glass, challenging the taster to keep up with its sheer pedigree. This is all nuance and class. I also tasted the 2010 from barrel, and it was beyond profound. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. |

Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. |

Wine Advocate (94+)The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Aux Boudots is a big, explosive wine endowed with considerable textural depth and power. Vinous (92)The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Aux Allots presents a softer, rounder style of Nuits. Crushed flowers, spices and sweet red berries sit on a core of silky tannins. This is an especially refined, textured Burgundy of immensely early appeal, even if it lacks the sheer excitement of the finest 2009s here. Still, readers looking for a good introduction to the vintage at Leroy might want to start here. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (96+)Bright medium red. Knockout soil-driven nose combines red cherry, cocoa powder, brown spices, dried flowers, lavender and minerals. The palate offers compelling high-pitched flavors of red fruits and flowers complemented by strong saline soil tones. Conveys a powerful impression of extract without any fat. This youthfully imploded wine magically combines power and finesse, finishing with outstanding sappiness and thrust. It was hard to scrape this off my palate--not that I tried. |

The Michel Gros Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru 2009 is a exquisite expression of the classic Burgundy Pinot Noir. Born from the esteemed Nuits-Saint-Georges region of France, this bottle reflects the superior craftsmanship of its producer, Michel Gros - a sixth-generation winemaker renowned within the Côte de Nuits landscape. Ravishing ruby in colour, the 2009 vintage offers a perfumed nose of dark cherries and local forest floor, mirrored on the palate with an impressive structure, evolving complexity and the long-lasting finish required of a 1er Cru class. The wine’s impeccable balance and silky texture result from the traditional hand-harvesting methods and 18 months of ageing in French oak barrels. Its relatively warm year is also reflected in the generous and ripe fruit flavours. For the discerning oenophile, a bottle of Michel Gros Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru 2009 signals an appreciation for great finesse and authenticity of the Burgundy terroir. |

Wine Advocate (94+)The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Les Vaucrains is fascinating to taste after Les St. Georges. In 2010 the Vaucrains is more finessed and elegant than the St. Georges, but in 2009 those rules are reversed, as it is the Vaucrains that comes across as far more imposing, inward and structured. Today the Vaucrauins is implosive and seems to be holding back much of its potential. Firm yet well-integrated tannins frame the fruit through to the tense, wiry finish. The Vaucrains needs to be buried in a deep, cold cellar for several years, perhaps considerably longer, although I am optimist by nature. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. |

Wine Advocate (93)The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses is a bit unusual for this site. The fruit shows more depth, concentration and overt richness than most wines from this vineyard. The signature perfume emerges with time, but this remains a wine essentially built on an intense core of fruit. Groffier used 10% stems here. The finish shows a little heat, which is the only thing that keeps the score from going higher. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. |

Wine Advocate (92+)The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers presents the more intense side of Chambolle. Layers of dark fruit emerge from this muscular, deep wine. There is fabulous richness in the glass, along with some of the sheer structure that is typical of Bonnes Mares, the vineyard that sits just above. The Sentiers seems built for the long haul. Knockout aromatics linger on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. |
