Wine Advocate (93)The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Fontenys is layered with dark cherries, flowers, spices and menthol. This is an especially fleshy, textured Gevrey. The showy personality of the vintage comes through, but there is also plenty of underlying structure and vibrancy. I especially like the intensity of the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029. |

Vinous (89-91)(57-year-old vines) Good full red. Cherry and spicy oak on the nose. Moderately sweet and dense but backward; harder to taste than the examples from Vosne-Romanee and quite oaky today. This ripe wine has a sizable structure, but the finish is a bit tough with wood tannins. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (92-95)Very good deep color. Wonderfully high-pitched aromas and flavors of sappy red fruits, Oriental spices, blood orange and bitter chocolate; it's rare to find this sort of perfume in 2009. Then compellingly sweet and sappy on the palate, saturating the mouth with flavor. A large-scaled premier cru that spreads out impressively on the finish, which features substantial but very fine tannins. Does this have the complexity and verve of the outstanding 2008? Cathiard believes this will be good young and old, but you'll need to forget the 2008, which is a real vin de garde |

Vinous (88-91)(from 11-year-old vines) Good full red. Expressive aromas of cherry, raspberry and smoky minerality. Supple, sweet and very ripe; an easygoing fruit bomb with a chocolatey quality. Finishes with substantial tannins and a slightly aggressive character. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (87-90)Deep red with ruby highlights. Deeper aromas of crushed black fruits, violet and minerals. Dense and concentrated but quite primary today, even a bit youthfully brutal, with blackberry and black raspberry fruit flavors supported by firm structure. Finishes with serious tannic spine. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St. Jacques sweeps across the palate with beautifully delineated black fruits. This shows tremendous aromatic intensity and fabulous length. With time in the glass, the wine turns more delicate, showing another side of its personality. A 65 note of licorice adds complexity on the multi-dimensional finish. Esmonin used 100% whole clusters for the fruit from the top of the vineyard, but fully destemmed the fruit from the bottom of the hill, resulting in about 70% whole clusters for the final blend. The Clos St. Jacques saw 100% new oak. |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (93-96)Good deep red. Pungent aromas of dark berries, crushed rock and exotic spices. Dense, tactile and sappy, with the energy to leaven its almost liqueur-like texture. As chewy as a solid, yet the extremely long finish displays outstanding peppery lift and perfume. Liger-Belair suggests drinking this one in 2030! |

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (97)Good medium red. Knockout soil-inflected nose offers raspberry, smoke, minerals and game, with a noble suggestion of white pepper; as in so many past vintages, this wine combines the best traits of Trapet's Latricieres and Chapelle. Densely packed and spherical on the palate, but also powerful and quite pure, with no sign of excess weight. Wonderfully savory, palate-staining wine, finishing with silky, refined tannins and terrific lingering perfume. A distinctly saline quality adds complexity to this beauty in the making. Like so many 2009s, this wine should be approachable fairly early-say in three or four years-but should also last well. |

Wine Advocate (95)The 2009 Charmes-Chambertin Les Mazoyeres comes across a big, powerful and super intense. It bursts from the glass with huge dark fruit, freshly cut flowers, tar and licorice, all of which come together with notable intensity. The 2009 shows off superb textural richness all the way through to the finish. The Charmes is young, young, young. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. |

Wine Advocate (97)The 2009 Musigny is every bit as fabulous from bottle as it was from barrel. A knock-out bouquet leads to super-ripe, floral infused red berries. The 2009 boasts extraordinary perfume, silky tannins and phenomenal balance. I especially like the understated intensity. This is a breathtaking effort from Pierre Vincent and La Vougeraie. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. |
