Vinous (92+)
Good full red. Deep, sappy aromas of kirsch, violet and minerals, with a medicinal cast. Sweet on entry, then taut and penetrating in the middle, with superb energy to the flavors of tangy, crunchy red fruits. At once dense and light on its feet, finishing with a saline nuance and lingering cherry flavor. This serious, structured wine really lifts the palate and stimulates the taste buds.Inc. VAT£21,306.07 -
Vinous (93+)
Full medium ruby. Superripe aromas of cassis, bitter chocolate, peony, Oriental spices and new oak. Dense, chewy and tactile; very primary, crunchy fruit flavors of raspberry and black cherry are a bit clenched today but not aggressive. Finishes very long and powerful, with serious wood tannins that will require a good decade of patience. Rouget's fermentations in 2008 took place at cool temperature, but the wines spent up to 26 days on their skins.Inc. VAT£3,130.40 -
Vinous (94+)
Good medium red. Subtle, pure, high-pitched aromas of black cherry, blackberry, violet and licorice. Chewy, intense and penetrating, with plenty of stem-driven energy behind the saline, soil-driven flavors of minerals, dark berries and graphite. There's no easy sweetness here, but this builds impressively in the glass and leaves the taste buds quivering on the very long, lightly peppery back end. These firm tannins will need a decade of patience. Like the Grands-Echezeaux, this wine was aged in 80% to 90% new oak.Inc. VAT£1,411.24 -

Good full, deep red. Complex aromas of black raspberry, cherry, coffee and game. Silky, spicy and fresh, with lovely lift and definition to the rather lush fruit. A lightly peppery quality perks up the wine without introducing greenness. Best on the very long, building finish, which features suave tannins and lingering sweetness. Seems every bit as long as the 2009 version. This was vinified with one-third whole clusters, and that percentage seems struck me as just right.Inc. VAT£3,681.89 -
Burghound (92)
This also displays moderate new wood influence that largely if not completely stays out of the way of the perfumed ripe violet, soy and hoisin suffused blue pinot fruit aromas that are in keeping with the spicy, rich, round and utterly delicious flavors that are quite supple on the mid-palate and culminate in a highly complex and lingering finish.Inc. The 2008 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses is sensual and inviting. Layers of endless, perfumed fruit grace the palate, followed by hints of white flowers, herbs, mint and rose petals. The wine continues to open up in the glass in an extraordinary display of class and elegance. A clean, inviting finish makes it impossible to resist a second taste. The energy, vibrancy and freshness are first-rate.Inc. VAT£3,488.00 -
Vinous (94)
The 2008 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras is a prototypical wine for the year. Cool, inward and tense, it shows superb precision in its dark fruit, spices, menthol and tar. The wine literally wraps around the palate with serious intensity and a beguiling personality that is impossible to resist. The finish is pointed and flat-out beautiful.Inc. VAT£3,456.58 -

Vinous (92-95)
Deep red-ruby. Knockout nose combines black raspberry, licorice, smoky minerality and complex earth tones. Superripe, rich and full but suave, with ripe acidity framing the complex flavors of raspberry, game, leather and earth. This spreads out insidiously to saturate the entire palate. Finishes complex and extremely long. Wow!Inc. VAT£1,505.38 -

Medium red. Pungent perfume of blood orange, licorice and herbs, lifted by a floral topnote. Tactile but backward, with terrific lift and perfume to the raspberry and crushed fruit flavors. The terrific rising finish displays great energy and a wonderfully light touch. Really stains the palate. With aeration, a deeper smoky, earthy tang and more adamant minerality emerged. A beauty, but lay it down for at least seven or eight years.Inc. VAT£4,294.80 -

The 2008 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses is endowed with an explosive bouquet and a multi-dimensional, textured core of dark fruit. (racked two weeks before my visit) Medium red. High-pitched aromas of raspberry, rose petal, white pepper and orange peel. Juicy, precise and mineral-driven, with lovely purity to the blueberry and blackberry flavors. Finishes with noteworthy energy and mounting length. Real wine-class Chambolle.Inc. VAT£1,412.81 -
Wine Advocate (97)
The 2008 Musigny is an infant, but it captures the essence of this important red Burgundy vintage to the fullest. There is gorgeous subtlety and nuance to the fruit, along with magnificent aromatics and the most elegant of tannins. The 2008 needs time for the elements to harmonize, but there is no mistaking the profoundness of what is developing in bottle. Today the Musigny shows a little more density and a touch better balance with its tannins than the Bonnes Mares, but both of Mugnier’s Grand Crus in 2008 are truly grand. Anticipated maturity: 2023-2048.Inc. VAT£9,051.62 -
Vinous (92+)
Bright, deep red. Exotic berry aromas are complicated by violet, cocoa, coffee and toast. Then almost surprisingly supple and sweet on the palate, showing a more attractive early balance and more finesse than the 2009 version. The spicy acidulated fruit and floral flavors convey a strong impression of energy. Finishes classically dry and saline, with peppery acidity and a slightly youthful toughness.Inc. VAT£4,546.84 -

Cherry, blackberry, peat, and game in the nose of the Grivot 2008 Vosne Romanee Reignots set the theme for a firm though juicy palate, and salt, chalk, nut oil, and cherry pit notes in an invigorating, downright refreshing finish reminding me of the extent to which the wines in this collection – by design – showcase Pinot virtues that can also apply to white wines. Since there were only around 350 liters, Grivot elected to supplement a new barrique with a new feuillette, which explains a hint of oak resin and slight sense of tannic stiffness that will hopefully be absorbed. Certainly the wine deserves to be attended to for at least a decade.Inc. VAT£3,711.64 -
Wine Enthusiast (94)
The aromas of smoky new wood follow through to the wood flavors on the palate. However, it's the powerful sweet black cherry and red berry fruit flavors, layered with fruit tannins and acidity, that are driving this impressive wine. For aging at least six years.Inc. VAT£1,187.09 -
Vinous (92)
Medium red. Perfumed, refined aromas of red cherry, rose petal and peppery spices. A juicy, sappy, layered midweight, offering good aromatic lift to the black cherry and licorice flavors. Conveys an impression of breadth without weight and finishes long and spicy. Very fresh and delineated premier cru.Inc. VAT£1,592.98 -
Vinous (95+)
Bright, deep red. Slightly reduced but already remarkably nuanced nose combines strawberry, raspberry, musky game, truffley underbrush and dried flowers. Silky and fat on entry, then builds on the back half, gaining in fullness, energy and power. Peppery, earthy spices add complexity to the savory, very long finish, which has the tannic clout to require 10 to 15 years of patience. Should be another in a growing collection of great Clos de la Roche bottlings from this domain.Inc. VAT£6,239.05 -
Vinous (89)
Good deep, bright red. Wild, slightly reduced aromas of dark cherry, spices, smoke and game. Round, supple and sweet, with an almost liqueur-like quality to its red fruit flavors. The 2008 Nuits-Saint-Georges Villages from Domaine Leroy is beginning to drink very well, bursting from the glass with a complex bouquet of cinnamon, blood orange, peony, cassis, blackberry and raw cocoa. On the palate, the wine is sappy, expansive and medium-full, with an ample mid-palate, fine-grained tannins and a penetrating, saline finish—weightless but intense. In this vintage Bize-Leroy opted to combine the Nuits lieux-dits that she usually bottles separately: Aux Allots, Aux Bas de Combe and Lavières.Inc. VAT£3,692.40 -
