Wine Advocate (97+)Raphel Coche told me that the 2012 Corton Charlemagne was the only vineyard that escaped hail damage this year. It has a very succinct nose, not predisposed to go out and grab you by the lapels. The aromatics unfurl with a sense of ease prioritizing finesse over power: beeswax, linden, lemon thyme and fresh pear. The palate is exquisitely balanced with fleeting glimpses of Seville orange and apricot. But there is more about the tension, the effortlessness and that it just rolls out across the finish like a huge Turkish rug. This is the kind of wine that exhausts superlatives. |

Decanter (100)Enjoyed over dinner in Burgundy after tasting many truly lovely wines, this wine could erase your memory of anything else. It is a riveting tour-de-force, with a medium lemon-yellow colour and heady, incredibly forward aromas of ripe orchard and stone fruit with exotic spices, butter, and a bit of oak. There is fresh acidity, plenty of body and extract, and incredible finesse and elegance as well. The combination of youthful fruit, fresh acidity, and robust density carry this wine to an interminable finish. |

The Comte Senard Corton-Charlemagne Blanc 2020 is a world-class, grand cru white Burgundy emanating from the illustrious vineyards of Aloxe-Corton, at the heart of Côte de Beaune. Crafted by the Comte Senard estate, renowned for their focus on bio-dynamics, this wine stands as a perfect depiction of the vineyard's age-old traditions and innovative techniques. Intricately picked by hand, this Chardonnay boasts a rich amalgam of citrus, apple and stone fruit aromas, aged on the lees in 100% new French oak barrels for a touch of complexity and finesse. A second, malolactic fermentation is conducted to bestow the wine with its opulent, buttery profile. Illicit flavours of honey, toasted nuts and minerality, with bracing acidity, lend the Comte Senard Corton-Charlemagne Blanc 2020 its exceptional balance. A splendid embodiment of the Corton-Charlemagne appellation, this wine is an undeniable testament to the grandeur of fine French viticulture. |

Vinous (94)Bright yellow. Very ripe aromas of lemon oil, grilled nuts, toasted bread and brown spices. Fat, rich and very ripe, with mineral and spice flavors accented by lemon zest, lime and lavender. This initially struck me as weightier and less classic than the 2015, but the wine's strong spine of stony acidity gives it terrific penetration and really frames and extends the fruit on the long finish. Still, this big, smooth wine is showing beautifully today. Winemaker Sieve notes that the south/southeast exposition of the vines gives this wine a crunchy fruit character along with considerable weight. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2017 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru comes from Les Pougets and matures in just under 30% new oak. This has a vivacious and tensile bouquet with orange zest and Japanese yuzu aromas that burst from the glass. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, quite taut for a Corton-Charlemagne but it is graced with impressive balance. The spicy finish is welcome. This is a finally crafted Grand Cru. |

Wine Advocate (97)The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru from the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti has turned out beautifully, offering up aromas of crisp pear and green apple mingled with notions of hazelnuts, lime zest, white flowers, nutmeg and freshly baked bread. Full-bodied, satiny and concentrated, it's ample but incisive, with a vibrant spine of acidity and chalky structuring extract. Combining the depth and intensity of flavor of 2019 with supplemental cut and tension, it's a step up in quality from that excellent debut vintage. |

Vinous (93+)Full yellow-gold. Deeply pitched, brooding nose hints at white peach, mirabelle and honey. Big, chewy, ripe and rich, with smoky soil tones currently dominating the wine's primary fruit. This is tactile and surprisingly round for young Corton-Charlemagne but will need patience to express itself. Its sheer density and length suggest it will reward extended cellaring. |

Decanter (96)The Faiveley holdings add up to 0.87ha on variety of soil types and altitudes, but they are all comparatively cool. This was picked late as a result on September 4th and marries richness, weight and honeyed complexity with vibrant, mineral-edged acidity and scented oak. A textbook Corton-Charlemagne from a year that didn't lend itself to classic wines. |

Wine Advocate (94-96)The 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is structured very differently from the domaine's grands crus from Puligny. Offering up aromas of orange zest, pear, apricot, white flowers, wet stones and hazelnuts, it's full-bodied, satiny and textural, with a beautifully mordant, chalky finish. |

Vinous (91+)Very ripe, lightly resiny aromas of apple, hay, nuts, ginger, minerals and exotic flowers. Youthfully disjointed on the palate, combining penetrating liquid minerality and strong, almost citrussy acidity; I wanted a bit more balancing fruit. Very chewy, salty, concentrated wine with a finishing suggestion of crab apple that suggests late harvesting. With its pronounced acid element, this is tough going today. |
