Today, let us embark on a journey through the best rosé wines that France has to offer, exploring the renowned vineyards and the diverse regions that give birth to these exquisite pink elixirs.

In Provence, the birthplace of French rosé, vineyards such as Château d'Esclans, Domaines Ott, and Château Miraval craft some of the most sought-after rosé wines in the world. These vineyards are revered for their commitment to quality and their ability to capture the essence of Provence in each bottle. Provence rosés are known for their pale pink color, delicate aromas, and refreshing flavors of red fruits, citrus, and herbs.

Moving to the Rhône Valley, the region of Tavel shines as the home of exceptional rosé wines. Domaine de la Mordorée, Domaine de la Vieille Julienne, and Château d'Aquéria are among the renowned vineyards that produce rich and expressive Tavel rosés. These wines exhibit a deeper color and a more robust structure, showcasing flavors of ripe berries, floral notes, and a touch of spice.

In the Loire Valley, the vineyards of Sancerre and Anjou offer distinctive expressions of rosé. Domaine Vacheron and Domaine Guiberteau are known for their vibrant and mineral-driven Sancerre rosés, while Château de Brézé and Domaine des Roches Neuves produce elegant and complex Anjou rosés.

The region of Bandol in Provence is synonymous with powerful and age-worthy rosé wines. Domaine Tempier, Château Pibarnon, and Domaine de la Tour du Bon are celebrated for their structured and deeply flavored Bandol rosés, characterized by their depth, intensity, and ability to age gracefully.

France's rosé wines are celebrated for their versatility and ability to complement a wide range of cuisines. From fresh seafood and Mediterranean dishes to summer salads and light appetizers, these wines offer a harmonious marriage of flavors that enhance any culinary experience.

  • Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Rose 2004 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (95)

Taittinger's 2004 Brut Comtes de Champagne Rosé is showing brilliantly, bursting from the glass with an expressive bouquet that mingles aromas of rhubarb compote, red plums and spices with notions of dried white flowers, pastry cream and toasted brioche. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, broad and vinous, with impressive depth and chalky structure, succulent acids and a long, precise finish. While the 2004 Comtes Rosé is drinking beautifully today, it is evolving comparatively slowly by the standards of this classically balanced but somewhat rapidly evolving vintage, and it should offer immense pleasure for the better part of two decades.

  • Savart Bulle de Rose Brut NV (1x75cl)

    Vinous (92)

(90% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay, with 8% of the final blend in the form of still pinot; 7 g/l dosage; disgorged on January 27, 2014): Vivid pink. Energetic strawberry, floral pastille and Asian spice aromas are accented by a chalky mineral element and a hint of white pepper.  Silky and expansive on the palate, offering concentrated but lithe red berry preserve and blood orange flavors lifted by bright minerality and a hint of white flowers.  Fleshes out with air and takes a turn toward deeper bitter cherry while maintaining its vivacity.  Closes stony and very long, with lingering floral character and a refreshing citrussy jolt. Twenty percent of this wine was aged in oak.

The 2005 Comtes de Champagne Rosé is a wine of contrasts. At first rich and vinous on the palate, the 2005 turns more delicate with time in the glass as its silkier and floral qualities become more evident. Sweet red berry and spice notes linger on the delicate finish.

  • Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Rose 2007 (1x600cl)

    James Suckling (99)

The light rust and amber color is enticing. Aromas of dried rose petals, cinnamon and nutmeg. Hints of dried meat, smoke and sage. Full body and compact, creamy texture. So fine and delicious. Great, subtle and complex flavors. More like a lightly aged, premier cru Volnay, but with the magic of Champagne. Drink now.
