    1995

Charles Heidsieck Blanc des Millenaires Brut 1995 (6x75cl)

    Jancis Robinson (19)

Still greenish gold. Still lots of freshness on the nose. Noble and magnificent. Savoury and yet lacy. Full phenolic ripeness (a bit more than 2004, which is currently embargoed). Dances on the palate. Lovely, very lightly toasty, mature Chardonnay flavours but definitely tight-knit champagne not burgundy! So clean.

Charles Heidsieck Blanc des Millenaires Brut 2006 (6x75cl)

    Wine Spectator (96)

A textbook blanc de blancs in a relatively opulent style, with ample grilled nut, brioche and spice character alongside classic flavors of poached apricot, kumquat, oyster shell and lemon blossom. This rich profile is well-defined by racy acidity, sleek and well-cut, driving the long, lacy finish. A beauty. Drink now through 2035. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 4,500 cases made, 185 cases imported.

Charles Heidsieck Blanc des Millenaires Brut 2007 (6x75cl)

    The Buyer (--)

Brun stated that this was a dangerous wine as you will drink it too quickly. He is right but my word this will become a wine of beauty over the next two decades, it is focused with bright spices, vibrant and exciting. Gentle pineapple, hints of white florals, chalk, tropical citrus more yuzu and clementine than lemon, on the back there is some creamy, vanilla, crisp biscuit feel, balanced with the racy freshness, hints of caramel, quince and meringue on finish. A wine that will evolve and display different nuances and flavours as it matures into adulthood – worth buying a case or two and watch it bloom. Blanc des Millénaires 2007 was disgorged July 2021 after more than 13 years on lees.

    Charles Heidsieck Brut 2006 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (92)

The 2006 Brut Millésimé spent nine years on the lees and was disgorged in 2017 with ten grams per liter dosage. The wine expresses the sunny vintage, exhibiting generous aromas of mirabelle plum, crisp yellow orchard fruit, confit citrus, toasted nuts and dried white flowers. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and mouthfilling, with a youthfully boisterous but elegant mousse, a fleshy core of fruit and a rich, expansive finish. This is a gourmand vintage of Heidsieck's vintage Brut, and it will be best enjoyed at table; it will age more on its concentration and extract than its acidity. The blend is a classic 59% Pinot Noir and 41% Chardonnay.

    Jancis Robinson (18+)

Based on the 2016 vintage. 40% Pinot Noir, 19% Pinot Meunier, 41% Chardonnay. Dosage 10 g/l. This is the first MEC that has some oak influence: 6% barrel-aged for texture. 46% reserve wine, the oldest is Cramant 1996. Average age of reserve wines is 10 years. Disgorged January 2020 and the first vintage to be bottled using the jetting technique and Diam Mytik closure. Full malo as on all these wines, though current winemaker Cyril Brun is keeping some no-malo reserve wines as a weapon against climate change. Subtle lemony nose. Stony, too, with the merest hint of white blossom, holds up really well in the glass. The smoky, reductive character is very slight but highlights the mineral/stony aspect. The citrus fruit and peel are ripe but there is masses of tension. The mousse is fine and gentle and also lasts really well in the glass. Becomes a little more toasty with air. Deep yet extremely refined, pulling in to a precise finish.

Based on the terrific Pinot Noir from the 2012 vintage, this is a top-dollar pink at a reasonable price. Fresh, intense and opulent, but also refined and of great class. All sorts of sensuous fruits, including black cherry, plum and even prunes, are checked by freshness and vigour. Dosage 11g/l. James Suckling (98)

An amazing 2008 rosé Champagne that has all the structure and aromatic complexity - sushi ginger, oolong tea and caramelized mandarin orange - we associate with this vintage, but also has more charm than most. On the palate, this has stunning concentration, yet is diamond bright. The interplay of creaminess, fine tannins and mineral acidity builds and builds at the breathtaking finish. The color comes from about 7% pinot noir red wine, partly from the little-known Les Riceys in the far south of Champagne. Drink or hold.
